  1. I took a look at the 1990 synopses (the AWHP includes daily which gives more detail) and what that shows is that Victoria was working for Cory Publishing as a journalist and interviewed him to try to find out about the mystery woman (Sharly) he was dating. And early on after Vicky met Ryan, before she knew he was Grant's brother, Ryan stormed over to her house to chew her out for publishing vile gossip about Grant. (I did find that episode online and it was very strange, for some reason although Vicky did write and submit her story, the newspaper article that got Ryan riled up was another column that cited Vicky as the source of the information.) Later in the year Vicky meets with Grant to try to get him to use his political influence to drop the charges in Jake's shooting against Marley. I didn't manage to find any scenes between Anne Heche and Dack Rambo online. You're probably right and although they did interact, maybe it wasn't until after all the recasts that Vicky went to work for Grant's campaign. I don't know if age was a factor but the gap between Heche and Rambo was certainly greater than the one between Buchanan and Pinter. I liked Dack Rambo as Grant very much. His was a softer portrayal. In my memories of Pinter he is always tense and controlling. I had forgotten that Grant was originally engaged to someone else when he started seeing Sharly.
  2. Thanks! I had gone back to read AWHP synopses for 1991 and the earliest mention of Victoria working for Grant makes it sound like it was a new thing in October, by which time all of the recasts had happened. Of course the synopses, especially the weekly ones, can't possibly mention everything. I'll have to hunt to see if I can find any scenes with Anne Heche and Dack Rambo.
  3. I kept waiting for the talking point that would explain why the only question Vance kept asking was how long each of them had worked there, but he never tied it all together before the clip ended. It felt like he just doesn't know how to draw humans out while making conversation.
  4. Speaking of Carl's children, as far as I know Perry was never discussed in the Ryan era and Carl never blamed Victoria for Perry's death even though she was arguing with him when he fell. I was recently watching a scene where Victoria and Ryan argue about her attraction to Grant and he breaks up with her because (I guess?) she won't promise never to impulsively sleep with Grant without intending to be unfaithful to Ryan. This was of course Jensen ... did Vicky start working for Grant when Anne Heche played her or was it all Jensen?
  5. Daniel Dale was forged in the fire of Toronto's mayor Rob Ford and emerged triumphant. Go Dale!
  6. I always blended the hospital plug-pullings in with Fax Newman so I was surprised to realize (looking back) that Andrew (who was Courtney's ex boyfriend) was the killer instead of Fax. Maybe he doesn't fit the profile of a serial killer because his motive seems to have been to frame Morgan more than anything. He seems to have killed two people in January 1996 and then Bridget in February before he died, so only 3 victims in total. http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/aw1996.html Fax Newman killed Courtney Evans. Andrew Miller raped her and harassed her and Morgan. Andrew was trying to kill Courtney when he fell to his death. I think maybe Fax Newman also killed three people -- Blair, Courtney, and Frankie? And may have attempted Josie and Lorna? They all seem like very different types and it's hard to think of what his deal was. But I didn't find the Sin Stalker's pathology very coherent either.
  7. What about the person who was pulling the plug on hospital patients? I think that was Courtney Evans' abusive boyfriend.
  8. Nancy never dated Hunter Bradshaw. Her preppy boyfriend was Greg Houston played by Chris Cousins. Chris Chapin [Don Scardino] and Tony Carlisle [John H Brennan] were both blond. Hunter Bradshaw was the one that Donna tried to get Marley to date. Hunt was racist toward Thomasina and I think it was Nancy who tricked him into believing the Halloween party was a costume party. He got drunk and got into a car accident with Marley.
  9. They put a lot of effort into setting up a whole Chapin backstory with a local Chapin Estate (which became the headquarters of Le Soleil USA) and some kind of criminal/business association between Chris' father, Carl, and Donna's father. Daphne Grimaldi had been Chris' father's very young mistress and in 1985 was involved with Edward Gerard's son Albert who was running Le Soleil under the name Michaud Christophe. Edward Gerard had his own backstory as the great love of Felicia’s life and the one who had changed her name from Fanny Grady. Michaud became obsessed with Sally, hired her as a spokesmodel, and then suddenly left town, leaving Daniel Gabriel to pick up where he left off trying to break up Sally and Catlin. It was just so bizarre that all of these strangers descended on Bay City at once and also had such deep connections even though they had never been heard of before and were also so quickly wiped out never to be relevant again.
  10. The interesting thing to me about that dynamic and the timing is that Cecile disappeared right before that -- the AWHP has Nancy Frangione's last day for several months as July 31, 1984. So Nancy was already gone (with a brief return in November for the Majorca remote) and Chris Rich stayed until March 1985. I am very ready to blame Chris Rich but if the producers replaced Laura Malone to try to tempt him to stay longer it doesn't seem to have worked. They might have done better to recast Sandy and keep Malone as Blaine. (But at the time he and Frangione were still married so maybe they were trying to keep the Cecile door open.)
  11. Jake had not known of Kevin's existence until he came to Bay City and revealed that they shared a father. But then again Ben had not seen Jake since they were children when Jake first came to Bay City as Victoria’s advance man and there was no mention of their being in later contact that I can think of. The short answer is that for many years Jake had been the only relevant McKinnon and they were not trying to bring back the original family, they were just focused on Jake. If they had presented Sean as Ben's son I would have questioned why he wouldn't have gone to his grandparents in Minnesota unless Ben had also come back to Bay City. I think that is true but there would have had to be so many things that went differently in 1985 and 1986 for that to pan out. Blaine and Sally had been friendly when they were bad girls so they could have picked up that relationship. Blaine could have had conflict with Donna over more than Donna's interest in Sandy. She should have had an opinion about Brittany one way or another. And probably a thousand Rachel-related things I can't think of.
  12. Her name was mentioned as early as the fall of 1984 when Jack Ryland was playing Vince and Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin were head writers. However she was not made flesh until DePriest.
  13. It's so hard to know, really. I have always imagined that if Laura Malone had remained in the role then maybe the character would have persisted. Maybe they would have recast Sandy and kept them on the canvas with Maggie and Alex for longer. With regard to Ben, I know they did tell him Mary was alive and they even teased that he might return then but nothing ever came of it.
  14. Oh, thank you for this. A pity it's only partial. The AWHP has Laura Malone's last day as July 31, 1984 but this is dated August 3. I would have guessed this could be August 6, only because Catlin sitting up in the back seat of Ada's car was in my memory as a Friday freeze frame/cliffhanger. But I suppose it could have been Thursday. Laura Malone does not look too fat at all. Those bastards. I had not remembered Ross spying on Julia in Cecile's house. I guess it was her research into Catlin and Sally that made it so important that he follow her to NYC to murder her.
  15. According to the AWHP, her character in the movie Light of Day watches Another World. http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/spinoff3.html
  16. Sounds a bit dog-whistle-y, insinuating her education doesn't count. Trump has only a Bachelors of Science (Wharton; not even an MBA). Biden also has a JD (Syracuse). Truman took some bookkeeping and typing courses at college but did not finish. That's not even thinking about Republicans' what-have-you-done-for-me-lately self-educated hero hero Lincoln.
  17. They're [CNN] fact-checking it right now.
  18. I wouldn't push it as definite, just not impossible, but it's not just the picture, the Days video/audio seemed reasonably similar. I don't see any contact info on darbyhinton.com so I don't know if there's a way to get a definitive answer.
  19. Thanks very much! Very possible. I am not 100% certain but I also didn't see anything that made me sure it couldn't be Darby Hinton.
  20. I definitely see a resemblance although I would think it more likely if he had an obvious NY presence or if he was already on the AWHP actor guide/DP list. Are there any video clips online so I can hear his voice and compare? 20240810_085853.mp4
  21. Apparently Nate Holden says he was with Donald Trump in a helicopter crash and no one mentioned Kamala Harris. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/08/09/trump-plane-crash-california-00173487
  22. I'm not sure whether this actor looks familiar or if he just looks similar to someone familiar. Anyone recognize him? This is from an episode in July 1991. The character is some guy that Cass and Kathleen pretend that they are interested in chartering a boat from in order to try to find out where Taylor Benson might have gone. The character may be called Ruskin.
  23. This helicopter flight lawsuit threat is so bizarre. I gather from CNN that Trump considers that it proves that Willie Brown told him "terrible things" about Kamala but the idea that Brown's denial enrages him so much that he is threatening to sue people is plain weird.
  24. Lemay certainly comments in Eight Years in Another World on how dissatisfied he was working with subwriters. He talks about firing experienced subwriters in order to hire novices (hoping he can shape them according to his preferences) and then firing the novices and hiring a cowriter, and then he gives the impression that he fired the cowriter and did all the writing himself (as well as kept all of the money budgeted for subwriters) because no one else wrote what he wanted and he was rewriting so much anyway. I agree that if Lemay didn't use the staccato style it seems unlikely that he would have given those instructions to dialogue writers. He does mention "specific guidelines" but "contradictory situations" sounds more like plot than style?
  25. I'm not sure about all time periods, but definitely the ones I can think of were all packaged consistently for the NBC soaps -- this clip had Another World and Santa Barbara under the "it will excite you" theme. And I forget the theme for the set of ads they did with Matt and Josie and the balloons and Sam and Amanda where he drops ice down her cleavage, but that same set included couples from Santa Barbara as well. Of course those were generic and had zero to do with the plot. Because of simulcasting, where the Canadian networks take over the US station on the cable broadcast, I rarely saw the NBC promos. When Search For Tomorrow was ending it had no Canadian network so I was occasionally able to see one right before Days came on, but most shows had a Canadian network.
