  1. Days of Our Lives General Discussion

Question: why did Higley keep getting hired back instead of someone young and/or better? I understand why she got pushed out before Ron C came in, but looking at her stints, it’s like geez
  2. The future of US soaps

Reading this thread really makes me realize two things 1. I really miss the P&G soaps 2. Having the classics easily available online is a godsend My main soap is DOOL but I love being able to go and rewatch stuff from when I was younger (babysitter was an NBC house, grandmas house was CBS house). So I get to see quite a bit of stuff from those eras and appreciate it more now. Being older now I LOVE the P&G stuff from long ago. There’s something about them that were something epic when they were firing on all cylinders (ex: Marland’s ATWT, Lemay’s AW, etc) I really wish that some of the old soaps had made it to the streaming era. They could’ve lived on past cancellation and maybe would’ve not suffered the fates they did. Soaps really could’ve benefitted from streaming and still can UK Soaps: I’m trying to get into them and decided to try the free trial of Britbox to see if they were as good as many here talk about. I’ve been watching Coronation Street and EastEnders and while good, I have no clue what is going on. If someone like @Edward Skyloveror anyone else familiar with them could give a brief who’s who I’d appreciate it so I could know what is going on
  3. Days of Our Lives General Discussion

I'm torn on JER/90's DAYS JER's DAYS I remember watching as a youngin thanks to the babysitter, a lot of his stories REALLY pushed the line of what was acceptable for Daytime (Possession being the biggest offender). As @Khan said above, as a television serial, those in charge REALLY need to be mindful about what they bring into people's homes. Some lines are better left not crossed and Possession was one of them. A lot of that was particularly strong imagery (the church burning). Devil Marlena provided many nightmares for a young Failsafe, but I couldn't stop watching. A lot of JER's stuff you could see spilled over into Vince Russo's writing during WWE's Attitude Era. The constant story swerves, the asinine storylines (the non Austin vs McMahon/DX/The Rock stuff), the actual part of the program people came to see being thrown out the window (wrestling/an actual soap opera), stories changing at a backbreaking pace, etc. Russo had his Possession story with late 1998-post WrestleMania 15 Undertaker who became ultra satanic. Taker at this point was speaking in tongues, sacrificing wrestlers, attempting to embalm Stone Cold alive, etc. I could go on, but you get the point. Back on point: JER's stuff got me introduced to DAYS and I still watch to this day so that's saying something. However, I'm not going to pretend he didn't have flaws and almost always went TOO far with content.
  4. DAYS: October 2017 Discussion Thread

How was today guys? Worth watching on NBC.com? My schedule is hell this week between work and Grad School so gotta catch up when I can
  5. DAYS: October 2017 Discussion Thread

Aww damn. At least I didn’t anything of note. Hopefully Monday gets things back on track

Missed today cause of work. Is it worth going to NBC.com to watch?
  7. The future of US soaps

Seeing Y&R in the current state it’s in is just sad. I barely recognize the show at times. Like a lot of us, it meant so much growing up and now it’s like anytime something (story, character, etc) could catch fire, CBS/Sony squander it and make it incredibly corny and/or forced. Hiring SSM instead of giving Alden the head writer spot didn’t help matters either I loved NBC growing up and IMO they’re still feeling the effects of cannibalizing their entire daytime lineup just to get Passions on the air. Passions and AW could’ve coexisted, NBC didn’t want it like that. NBC gutted the lineup for PSNS and eventually ended up axing the show. Now to say if AW would’ve made it to 2017, idk we still had the P&G mismanagement and eventual cancellations of ATWT and GL so it’s tough to say. NBC’s destruction of its daytime lineup is one footnote in the bigger list of NBC screwups as a whole I’ve never watched the UK/Australian soaps aside from Eastenders reruns on BBC America long ago. I’d love to if I could be pointed in the right direction in terms of which ones and where to start from
  8. DAYS: September 2017 Discussion Thread

I actually check for the show again and try to actively keep up with it every day. That’s WAY more than I can say for Higley’s DAYS It has a ways to go, but the show is actually “fun” again and not a drab depressing mess. Time will tell when renewal time comes with NBC (isn’t DAYS on yearly renewals?)
  9. DAYS: September 2017 Discussion Thread

Does DAYS even have enough $ in the budget to pull off a rehash of that storyline? Better yet, is NBC willing to deal with the controversy of that story again once it’s rehashed?
  10. DAYS: August 2017 Discussion Thread

Are you serious? The episode was just getting lit and preemption happens. Like we said during OJ a few weeks ago, let CNN cover it
  11. NBC talks DAYS future

    +1
  12. Same here. After reading what y'all have said about him and seeing his stuff, I want him to succeed for sure. He's somewhat restored the feeling of the DAYS I grew up watching with the campiness and overall WTF. I've kept up with DAYS more since he came on than I have Y&R (which I badly need to catch up on) I just hope Corday and/or NBC don't panic and also take into account OJ wiping out the daytime schedule for that day.
