  1. Oh, you just know that if the show got picked up, Mick would have eventually cameoed or guest-starred. I have a real fondness for Tartikoff-era pilots. You start thinking, "Could this have worked on another network? What would it replace? ..." I'm glad to be sharing some curios.
  2. She's With Me, Dinah Manoff & Jerry Hall's buddy comedy from 1986. Christopher Rich and Michael Sabatino are among the guest cast. Another one that NBC passed on.
  3. Speaking of that, they didn't write in depth about Death and Taxes, did they? The blog is nice, but a little hard to navigate.
  4. Throw in an estate lawyer, and you've got a one-stop shop for widows and widowers.
  5. I wonder what was the overlap of OLTL viewers and people who saw The Silence of the Lambs in 1991? Alex utilizing a pen to aid in her escape is almost certainly not a coincidence.
  6. Agnes Nixon washed her hands of OLTL too soon.
  7. Taking a shot in the dark, I'm going to guess that the unfunny male writing team from a recently-concluded series would be Danny Margosis & Robert Horn, who would have worked with David Steinberg on Designing Women.
  8. Much appreciated, @DRW50! I'm always up for some good backstage stories. ETA: I'm enjoying the dish about "Boris & Natasha"
  9. Thank you. I wondered if there was something cutesy, like Cass calling to say he was on his way home, etc.
  10. Did Cass' post-1999 appearances on ATWT and GL imply that he was still with Lila?
  11. Death and Taxes, intended for NBC in 1993. Starring Teri Garr and Craig Bierko, with a supporting cast including Cynthia Harris, Iqbal Theba, Patrick Warbuton, and Dakin Matthews and guest star Wallace Shawn. Watch it on YouTube for co-creator Darrell Vickers' candid commentary. ETA: Are Teri and Craig in the living room from Family Matters? And, courtesy of Variety, a rundown of NBC's 1993 pilots slate. https://variety.com/1993/tv/news/nbc-seeks-young-and-the-rest-105297/
  12. I'll take a shot in the dark and assume that "Modesta" was meant to shade M.J. Like if her name was P.J., SoapNet would be claiming the P stood for Prudence. Early SoapNet could be a bit snarky. They had a promo once with a baby's rattle and a voice actress saying, "Gee, he really doesn't have his father's eyes, does he?" Or the promo I'd love to find again, where The Colbys comes across as a farce.
  13. Sara kept inducing false memories with these dudes. Luckily, she stopped before doing so with Alan or Ed.
  14. Luke had two fake funerals in the early 1980s. The first was in 1980, when Luke was presumed dead after falling overboard from Frank Smith's yacht. The audience knew Luke was alive, and he even got to observe his own memorial service. The second was in 1983, when Luke was presumed dead after being caught in an avalanche. The audience didn't immediately know Luke was alive, but they found out in the episode right after the funeral. Asa's 2001 fake funeral is certainly memorable. I think he also had one circa 1983, during the love triangle with Bo and Delilah (as a way to test her fidelity?).
  15. Yup, you're right. Charlene blackmailed Lucy into living with her and Tony. Colton might have eventually moved there. I know that he lived above Kelly's when he was introduced, and maybe lived with Felicia at the brownstone when they were a couple. I'm also thinking Decker probably moved in with Charlene at some point. Now that I think about this, I hope that house was paid off. Can you imagine trying to figure out who's handling the mortgage?
  16. Between the Webbers and Scorpios, Tony also lived there. I think Tonia died before she got to live there, but Tony lived there with Lucy. Once that marriage was done for good, Charlene lived there (or maybe Lucy shared the place with Charlene?). It was the site of Alan & Lucy's wedding.
  17. Does DOOL still use the Horton house set, or has it been retired? If it's around, I think it deserves mention.
  18. This is actually from the week of Sept. 29, 1980. A Perfect Match, the TV movie promoted at 25:40, premiered Sunday, Oct. 5 (and didn't get a summer rerun, like I initially thought). ETA: D'oh! @P.J. beat me to the punch.
  19. Apologies if this has been posted before. It's apparently the promo Lorimar used when the show entered off-network syndication. I do love a good narrated trailer, don't you?
  20. While I wouldn't trade Robin's time on All My Children, I have to admit that having her return as Hope after Santa Barbara wrapped could have been a good thing for Guiding Light.
  21. Even when you know it's coming, the reveal of Stacey as the first Loving Murders victim still packs a punch.
  22. The flip side to the thread about short lived characters with lasting impact. I nominate Meredith Lord, OLTL. Yes, Larry and Dan remained on the canvas long after her death, but it feels like her place in the show's history and Lord family as a whole kept getting overshadowed as time went on and Victor gained illegitimate children with each new decade.
  23. I'd never seen this until today. Apparently, it's not the first scene between Robin's Heather and Kin, but it's certainly the one that set them up as a couple. And the show's not subtle about it. I'm assuming that Mary's Heather and Kin never interacted?
  24. This weekend marks 40 years since the cancellation announcement.
  25. I'll add Jenny from AMC to that list. Her ripple effect includes adult Tad, plus Opal, Liza, Jesse and Angie, and all the people they affected. Oddly enough, I think the least impactful person in that pool is Greg.
