  1. They're recasting Martin Fowler: http://www.soapsquawk.co.uk/news/eastenders-confirm-recast-of-martin-fowler.php#results At this point, just have him return briefly so he and Sonia can leave again, please...
  2. I always get a kick out of seeing Liz Hubbard as such a dynamic younger woman after loving her for years as Lucinda.
  3. Madonna This Used to be My Playground [Long Version] from Modestas Polikauskas on Vimeo.
  4. I don't think I appreciated this song when it was a hit in 2000 (late 1999 for Europe), but having just rediscovered it after hearing it on a local radio station, I think it was a great pop ballad for that time.
  5. She got caught up with the sex kitten image after Herb Ritts (most famous for his photos with Madonna and 80's/90's super models) made her explore her sexuality for the first time with the Love Will Never Do video. It was cute when she explored it more on the janet. album, but then she never grew out of that phase and kept doing the same routine over and over again. It got very tiring. Janet wanted to wear a dress for that video, but Herb insisted she wear a tank top and a pair of jeans, and suddenly a new Janet emerged.
  6. I do think she's underrated to a degree, and I don't know if we can necessarily blame the Super Bowl fiasco for ending her pop career, but something seemed to go wrong with her career after her divorce from Rene Elizondo. I know a lot of people over the years have alleged he was a big part of her music when they were together and there's been a noticeable change ever since they separated. She had a great string of music videos and pop hits, but she never really got the same type of attention, global fame, and media domination that Michael and Madonna got for much of that same era.
  7. I also think Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis's production just wore very thin after a while. Her collaboration with them stopped working after her 1993 janet. album, IMO. It hit an all time low by the All For You album in 2001. She probably should have branched out from them sooner than she did, but probably couldn't since much of her success at the time was due to them and their sound.
  8. It didn't go to the top 10 like the other Control singles, but I think Pleasure Principle is her best video:
  9. Rhythm Nation 1814 had some great singles, but like many of Janet's albums, the flow was a bit off and the interludes a bit too intrusive. For that reason alone, I think Control is a superior product and the best album out of her big trilogy (Control/Rhythom Nation 1814/janet.).
  10. I grew up with Janet, but I don't think she's put out anything listenable since The Velvet Rope (and probably 1993's janet. if I'm being honest). All For You seemed like the end of career in retrospect and was the first album from her where I was utterly disappointed, and the albums since have just not been good. However, she hadn't released anything in years, so I wonder what she's up to now...
  11. They should just kill his entire family. Did Sharon seriously call Linda her best friend recently? I guess Michelle Fowler no longer exists in her mind.
  12. Matt DiAngelo is being written off again (as expected) http://www.dailystar.co.uk/showbiz/399712/Matt-Di-Angelo-Eastenders-rape-storyline He was terrible during his first stint and still is, so no big loss IMO.
  13. Well, she got Julia's Theme for her first official exit in 1999. I kind of wish the character was left in the 90's at this point, sadly. The character that came back just wasn't the same.

  15. The Facebook page has a promo for September/Fall storylines. Extremely sensationalistic, which seems to be what the show is going for in full force these days. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152689004319939
  16. 1989, it actually prevented Madonna's Express Yourself from hitting #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart in July of 1989.
  17. Strangely find myself wanting to listen to this song lately.
  18. Beyonce is now second, only behind Madonna, for most VMA wins.
  19. Yes, and Shania is the only women to have 3 diamond certified albums - The Woman In Me (1995), Come On Over (1997) and Up! (2002) (I guess 4 if you consider that COO is double diamond). In UP!'s case, it was a counted as a double album (since she had one that was a pop mix and one that was a more country mix), so the sales counted twice when it was certified by the RIAA. Madonna, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and Britney Spears each have two diamond certified albums.
  20. Her entire career has been built on trying to follow the same template Twain masterfully did in the late 90's. But I do think Taylor had more of a reputation in the country scene/Nashville than Shania ever did. Shania was always an outsider in Nashville, and country music purists always detested her, so she had nothing to lose by doing more pop oriented material (thanks of course to her then husband Robert "Mutt" Lange of course). Taylor, on the other hand, has built the entire foundation of her career in Nashville, first as a songwriter and then as an actualized artist. So possibly alienating that section of her base is a potentially risky move. Taylor's success is really only concentrated in America though. Though she's toured Europe and other parts of the world, she's NEVER had the same following internationally that she has in the US/Canada. I wonder if her more pop leanings are an attempt to make her a more global star. Shania at her peak was a GLOBAL star. Her 1997 album, Come On Over, isn't just classified as the best selling country album ever, it's the best selling album for a FEMALE ARTIST EVER, in both the US AND WORLDWIDE.
  21. I must say, I like that she asked someone from the golden age of music videos, Mark Romanek, to direct her video. He's done great stuff for Madonna, En Vogue, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, and Fiona Apple to name a few.
