  1. Frontline on PBS should do a documentary on this topic. It has reminded me of how insidious it was that the NAACP actually once defended these tobacco companies crafting their campaigns to target the Black community. https://tobacco21.org/how-the-tobacco-industry-hooked-black-smokers-on-menthols/
  2. Another confirmation put in motion by VP Harris after a 50/50 split in the Senate. This confirmation also gives the majority to the Democrats in the FTC.
  3. Greed and waste comes in all forms, in all industries, sadly.
  4. Oh, I meant the overall concept of super couples in soaps general. I haven’t even looked at B&B that closely to assess it. I do remember those sparkling ads that used to run during CBS Daytime in ‘87, in late January and throughout February before B&B debuted in March of that year and it was clear that they were promoting Ridge and Caroline in particular, as the “Golden Couple”. Do you remember those promos? It was pretty rude that they aired them during Capitol, lol. The idea of promoting your soap based on couples, which is what many soaps did, after the success of Luke and Laura on GH, was always going to be a double-edged sword on shows that increasingly relied on shifting romantic relationships to keep the drama going. But being specific to B&B, the over-reliance on romantic triangles always annoyed me somewhat.
  5. It’s also the analysis and discussion that I prefer to engage in. I like to look at specific aspects of the writing and production, as well as performance. JMO but I am a believer that, just as the “supercouple” idea seemed like a good idea initially, before turning corrosive, I do believe that the aspect of Stan culture has had a similar effect, especially when the producers, execs and writers whose work isn’t strong enough to both absorb and withstand intrusive and destabilizing influence let stans dictate what ultimately appears onscreen. ‘It’s refreshing to strip away all of those marginal aspects from the equation and look at what’s vital to the storytelling.
  6. I love this for her! I love watching the moves Venus, Serena and Naomi having each been making, especially over the last year and a half. Very meaningful moves.
  7. So appreciate your analysis. The bloviating that often comes with discussion of soap characters on SM usually takes me right out of any discussions. Yours is the kind of discussion I can get into.
  8. Isner’s brand of tennis is unwatchable to me, regardless of who he plays.
  9. ICYMI, with VP Harris casting the decisive vote, this happened yesterday. Oh America, still having firsts in 2022?
  10. May the Metaverse and Twitter see their revenues continue to sink.
  11. Why am I not surprised?
  12. So, the children of not one but two former dictators will be the next president and vice president of the Philippines?💀
  13. It would’ve been fun to find out that ole $Bill Jr. was an imposter. I know some people didn’t enjoy it, but I thoroughly enjoyed the evolution of Caroline Spencer. She became assertive, even bold in many regards and she wasn’t afraid to mix it up with Stephanie, or anybody for that matter. I could understand why JJ wanted to leave though, soaps tend to exhaust their talent and from the very beginning to the end, Caroline was always involved in some heavy heavy storylines.
  14. Oh, that’s also shameful. Musk came from and benefited from racist apartheid policies in South Africa and he runs Tesla as his own personal apartheid fiefdom, so I don’t think he can be shamed about his misuse and abuse of his wealth and privilege. It’s basically left to outside forces to stop him, which doesn’t look too promising at the moment.
  15. Yesterday, people were complaining that Krajinovic was foot faulting all over the place but never got called on it during his match against Tiafoe. Perhaps it’s the same umpire?
  16. Eric comes off as such a dope. He’s been married like 5 times and comes off looking foolish with each passing marriage. Stephanie must have been in charge of the finances in the early years of FC, otherwise I don’t know how they would have managed to hold onto the business.
  17. Alcaraz taking a nibble of the vulva trophy.
  18. This could have also been put in the Journalism/Media thread as a rant on today’s so called journalists. What a shambles this industry is currently.
  19. Who did Zverev have to get through to get to the final? I ask because up until the final, I hadn’t seen any of his matches.
  20. So, will people be looking at yesterday’s semifinal as the final? I missed the first set but from what I saw in the second, Zverev looked out of sorts, serving many double faults and producing many UEs. It just didn’t look pretty but because of the full tournament run, Alcaraz really earned his title this week.
