I didn’t watch one minute of this ceremony but congratulations to Mishael Morgan and all the awardees. Clearly Morgan should be getting leading actress caliber storylines. Is she? I am asking viewers because I stopped watching Y&R years ago.

People overlooking the fact that Joe Manchin voted for both Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to be confirmed to SCOTUS with absolutely no repercussions. Honestly, does this ever happen with the Republicans? Of course, 11 Democrats voted for Clarence Thomas, completely dismissing Anita Hill’s crucial and damning testimony. What an infamous vote that turned out to be. Midterms will be interesting.

My comment was solely based on what has been happening with Netflix, I understood your post but my response was not concerning that.

How will the Daytime Emmy awards honor Kathryn Hays and Lisa Brown? Will it be more than just their photos flashing by on an In Memoriam segment? They owe these ladies more than that. Kim Hughes was likely the last character ever created by Irna Phillips, who built the foundation on which the daytime drama stands and there ought to be some recognition of that. The great shame of the daytime emmys is never having awarded Hays an Emmy during her lifetime— not eve a lifetime achievement award, which could have been done even in the years after the show was canceled while she would have been alive to receive it. Now it’s really too late. Lisa Brown created two iconic daytime drama characters and she left without any official acknowledgment from the daytime emmys. Shame on these folks.

Netflix is dropping a lot of their current roster of shows into cancellation. I doubt this would be a consideration for them.

I stopped calling the U.S. a developed country ages ago. No nation with such rampant inequality can rightfully lay claim to being called a developed country.

These are the same entities whose antecedents threw it to the states in deciding which states would regard Blacks as semi-free and which states regard Blacks as property and 3/5 of a human being. Same energy for the states that regarded “mixed-race” marriages as illegal versus those who did not. Same energy.

People really do not fully comprehend how this will potentially impact everyone, not just women and not just women in child-bearing years. Even in states where the governor and state legislature has vowed to protect a woman’s right to an abortion, stands to be the unintended consequence of women in need of abortions coming to these states and overwhelming the health systems, that is, those who will even be able to get (t)here. There will be so many unintended consequences as a result of this law (which has been law since before I was born) being overturned and a great many of these consequences will ultimately be tragic. If you think poverty in the U.S. is bad now, wait a few years with an overturned Roe v. Wade in effect.

Interesting and hopefully a blueprint to a successful end run around these conservative court decisions.

The comments in this thread made me curious enough to check out that specific anniversary episode featuring Traci and Ashley. The dialogue for Traci was sometimes written clumsily but Beth Maitland did her best and salvaged what she could and let her natural warmth and sincerity shine through. The dialogue for Ashley was a bit better but I wonder why the writing couldn’t make the dialogue sound more conversational and less like exposition or an interview. This was the first time I saw Allie and I like the casting choice, the actress comes off as personable, even charming at moments but I can imagine the show not truly giving her anything to do. I agree with whoever posted how much of a shame it is that the show killed off Keemo and Colleen and it’s not due to sentimental reasons why I bring this up, both characters have character and genuine story value for this show, that has been flushed down the drain. A whole host of story possibilities lost. I found myself snickering or guffawing over how they tried to smooth over that whole part of the story involving Brad creating an entire 2nd family with his former sister-in-law, only mildly acknowledging how weird it was. For the most part, I enjoyed the flashbacks, even taking into account the odd omissions. Oh, and was I the only one who thought the food looked putrid? I knew there was supposed to be broccoli on the plate but what the heck was that mystery meat??! I kept hoping the food was fake because it looked disgusting!

That doubles match between Serena/Ons and Bouzkova/Sorribes-Tormo was so entertaining!

I always turn my Adblocker off for ST. I’m fine with having them get ad money, especially since they are a smaller, less deep pocketed newsroom and they were upfront about it and asked nicely, lol. I have more of an issue with papers run by millionaires and billionaires like NYT and WAPO whose executives ride the high horse of journalistic integrity and are a veritable sh*show behind the scenes. If they were really invested in journalists getting paid they would not have had to fought unionization for so long. Also, they would have been an employee-owned enterprise like other companies. And they wouldn’t still have people with accusations of sexual predation still on their payroll. And since NYT (and likely WAPO too) tracks most of their readers, whether you have an account or not, I don’t feel compelled to subscribe to either. They make a healthy profit off profiling the vast majority of visitors to their site.

The NYT should just admit that they rely on ads and tracking software even more than they rely on subscriptions. At least with other papers like the Seattle Times, they require you to allow ads in order to read their paper, but the tech section of the NYT will have columnists write articles on how you can subvert ads (tracking software is another issue entirely) on other sites, as they both track and sneak ads in every single article. Their ethics are not entirely pure either. NYT does do some things very well and of course the journalists and researchers deserve fair compensation, despite the fact that many weren’t even when subscriptions were at their peak, and despite the fact that they continue to bankroll the likes of Glenn Thrush and Maggie Haberman who at this point is using the paper to promote her book. I do wonder why newspapers don’t just become an employee owned enterprise and ditch the hierarchy as some truly independent local newspapers have elected to do.

It wasn’t just about the pandemic leaving people behind…people in Colombia have been left behind and marginalized for years by candidates from the same political parties that usually win, time and again. It’s the main reason why the first group of candidates to get knocked out of the presidential race were the two candidates from the two traditional political parties in Colombia.

Meléchon and the political left gained a lot of seats in France, which looks as if the French voted to be a check on Macron who has alienated a lot of French voters. The worrying aspect is the fact that Le Pen’s party got so many seats, because I believe that she is a wolf who has been trying on sheep’s clothing as of late. She is the same xenophobe nationalist who has only triangulated and softened her positions to seem more palatable to a larger number of voters than her usual base. Macron is largely responsible for the loss of the majority of loss of seats. It’s never a good thing when your constituents refer to you as a Napoleonic figure. Here is the result, an erosion of his party’s presence in government. A reminder of the history being made in Colombia.

Both Vice Presidential candidates in the national election identify as Afro-Colombian women. The leftist candidate Gustavo Petro and his vice-presidential running mate Francia Márquez Mina were just proclaimed the winners after a runoff. As much as Latin America may not look at the U.S. as any sort of ideal or beacon, you cannot tell me that seeing a Vice President Kamala Harris wasn’t meaningful.

Jean Tritignant played the slightly smug bourgeois professional (that you’re not sure you can even find likeable)who lives a bland life and wanders into that morally compromised situation seamlessly.
