  1. There is a lot more of Helena at quintnola's Youtube channel. There are a few scenes at ClassicGL under The Prisoner. Here are one or two others that I enjoy just for silly, sentimental reasons, like when they worked in a bit of a Nola fantasy to Key Largo. Marland's GL was so damn stylized and dense. I could analyze every scene. Yet I can see why it fell apart after he left.
  2. The episode I've wanted to see for a while, finally uploaded. The one where Josh beats up Tonio. I'd only ever seen flashbacks. It was a little better in the flashbacks but still fun. I wonder if Bill Finchtner asked Peter Boynton's permission to spit on him. Lisa seems to be dressed as some sort of Golden Girls harlequin. Geez Shannon really was a moron.
  3. Helena was an old associate/love of Quint's who was dangerous and tied to some of Quint's enemies. She was one of Quint's harem, along with Nola and Mona/Rebecca/whoever. She was a lot of campy fun, as was Vanessa, who also floated around that storyline. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UmaTk5_nY4 Rose Alaio's other major soap role was Rose on Ryan's Hope. I loved her on that show. She was fired around the time of the 1981 writers strike.
  4. From the April 12, 1983 Digest. I got a kick out of Helena, I wish they could have had Rose Alaio come back later on, it might have given Nola something to do in that horrible return. This issue also talks about how chaotic GL is backstage, with Geraldine Court (who had just been fired) basically calling it a madhouse. John Wesley Shipp also quit, as he wanted to do a play and they kept telling him he had to make a decision now, and that he was upset about changes to his character. Didn't he end up staying on a while after this? I know he was with Claire, and that was a while after this wasn't it?
  5. The "hot" brother looks so much like another soap actor. I can't think of who. Here are the Savage brothers. I guess they've totally given up on the pretense of Noah not being campy or femme?
  6. It was very claustrophobic.
  7. Thanks for sharing this. The stuff with Edy/Doug sounds a bit odd. She leaves him a rag doll? I guess it must have had some type of clue. This reminds me of Viki's rag doll on OLTL. I knew Edge and RH were preempted but I didn't know Loving was. I wish we could see this stuff with the Shana/Ann conflict. Dane reformed later on didn't he?
  8. I'd love to see Trisha/Steve. Steve seems like such an atypical leading man for the 80s. Did the actor want to leave or did they fire him? It seems like Jeff was a more hunky type (especially before he went nuts - there's a beefcake type shot of him in a summer 88 Digest and he looks very good), and then of course Trucker was a big pinup type. Was he hired based on his ATWT run? The stuff with Gwyn and Charles sounds interesting. I wonder why they killed him off. Thanks for the extra information about Tony. They also have another Ava scene on their account (of her going to a lawyer) and some credits sequences. I miss credits - now they seem like they never even existed. I didn't know Loving did that beauty shot of an additional scene. One has a woman I don't recognize wandering her kitchen.
  9. Wow, this weird quasi-British accent Brenda Dickson does in this scene is annoying as hell. She was ahead of her time! video gone
  10. These are such beautifully acted, shot, and scored scenes. I just love the Kate/Ava relationship. It's crazy how much Kate seems like a perfect blend of Ada and Mona, with a little Liz Foster thrown in. I can't imagine how viewers at the time got over Roya Megnot's departure. She's so unique. I think Roya said that Ava had already been changed as a character before she left, so perhaps that's why viewers accepted it.
  11. Claire is annoying as hell in this clip. No wonder Ed boozed it up.
  12. Thanks so much. So did Lauren Marie-Taylor leave for a while, when Tony and Stacey went to California? Was that a maternity leave? Who played Tony? I didn't know June was ever back either. Was Ann Williams still playing her or was she gone by this time? I'm sorry about the 1989 scan being kind of poor - I was trying something and had a new scanner.
  13. I hope that type of role won't hurt his chances at other roles, if people think that's how he looks most of the time. The Sven story was AW's ratings peak wasn't it?
  14. I didn't watch most of her era but I guess if ratings are any indication, Lucy Allan, at least towards the end of her run. I think that in terms of quality both she and Marquess were bad. She had no ideas - his ideas were generally poor, or poorly executed. Even the new family hyped as a success, the Costellos, are generally awkward characters in awkward stories.
  15. January 7 2005 - Kate says goodbye. I still think it was a stupid decision to get rid of Kate. She could have gone anywhere, in any story, as she was not bogged down, and she had easy chemistry with many different sections of the cast. I'm sure someone felt she had no major connections but that is an asset in many cases. For most of her run (until she started going nuts) I thought Kim Medcalf's Sam was a spoiled bitch and I had little sympathy for her, but her last scene with Kate does make me feel sad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAZ2JzKyuKI&feature=related
  16. Thank you both. So was Agnes involved in casting Luke Perry? I was also wondering if she had any involvement in Roger Howarth joining OLTL, since he'd been on Loving a few years prior and been fired. But she was probably not heavily involved in either show by that time. So Lorna and Jack were Ann's kids, is that right? I keep forgetting. For some reason I thought Stacy and Lorna were sisters but now I realize that wasn't possible. I guess this is before Stacey and Jack were together. Who was Tony again? I wonder what it was like for Susan Keith and James Kiberd working together at this time, as they said they initially hated each other.
  17. Anne said that she felt her time on AW as Nicole made DAYS viewers accept her as Kim. Do you think that was true? I wasn't watching ATWT in fall 1996 so thanks for the clip. I'd forgotten how stupid people seemed to be - then again Lily was never exactly bright. But Lisa wittering on that way...I wonder if Eileen Fulton was glad to be off. She hated this story.
  18. From the August 22, 1989 Digest.
  19. I remember Priscilla being a little better than that on SuBe...
  20. It always gets on my nerves when I think about it as the potential was there, and Sharon/Den and Den/Dennis were fascinating. Dennis was everything wet Ryan and constipated Sean could never be. The show just bungled it by making Den too dark and by not giving him the Vic back immediately. It has been a huge mistake in the long-term because now they are still clinging to the husk that is the Mitchells, and trying to pretend Phil is any sort of powerhouse. I still remember the scenes where he went around and talked to those he knew when he first lived there. It's funny that, aside from Pauline, they're all still on the show. I guess this also means they will never bring anyone else back from the dead - another mistake. Did you hear that

  22. From the March 21, 1989 Digest. Wow, I didn't know Sade was on daytime.
