Peacock’s “Bel-Air” will mark a reunion between “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” alums Daphne Maxwell Reid (“Frank’s Place,” “Snoops”) and Vernee Watson-Johnson (“General Hospital,” “Bob Hearts Abishola”) who played Aunt Viv and Viola “Vy” Smith, respectively, in the original 90’s sitcom. In the new series, the two will play Helen and Janice, members of the Art Council Board, in the show’s ninth episode releasing Thursday, March 24 on the streaming service. Set in modern-day America, the hour-long drama re-imagines the beloved sitcom with a new, dramatic take on Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. As these two worlds collide, Will reckons with the power of second chances while navigating the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world far different from the only one he’s ever known. Another round of “UEFA Champions League” will preempt “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” on the West Coast, today, March 8 and tomorrow, March 9. Playing today’s game on CBS will be Liverpool vs FC Internazionale Milano while tomorrow’s game will be between Real Madrid vs Paris Saint-Germain. The games will begin at 3:00 p.m. ET on CBS and via streaming service Paramount+ with each showing different teams playing in the competition. A pre-game show, “UEFA Champions League Today,” will air at 2:00 p.m. ET in place of “The Talk” which will be fully preempted. “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Price is Right” will not be impacted in markets that air the game shows as a pair in the mornings. The official trailer for the film“Deep Water” was released yesterday by Hulu. The movie stars Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas as Vic and Melinda Van Allen, a married couple who play dangerous mind games and what happens to the people that get caught up in them. “All My Children” alum Finn Wittrock also stars playing the role of Tony, one of Melinda’s conquests. “Ordinary Joe,” NBC’s primetime drama about what life would be like depending on the choices one makes, will not be returning for a second season, reports Deadline. The series concluded its 13-episode first season on January 24 with only 1.4 million viewers tuning in and a 0.2 rating in Adults 18-49, the primary sales demo that sets advertising rates for primetime television. For the season, the show was NBC’s lowest-rated drama. Following a man named Joe Kimbreau (James Wolk) who’s forced to decide what to do with his life following his college graduation, “Ordinary Joe” told three parallel storylines that diverged from that point forward as Joe and the people around him deal with different careers, relationships and family lives, showing the unexpected ways that things change – and stay the same. But when it comes down to it, there is no “right” choice; no matter what happens, Joe’s life is always messy, exciting, tough, unpredictable … and beautiful. The series also starred Natalie Martinez, Elizabeth Lail and Charlie Barnett. Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner wrote and executive produced the series along with executive producers Matt Reeves, Adam Kassan, Rafi Crohn, Howard Klein. On the Monday, March 14 episode of “The Young and the Restless” (originally scheduled to air on Friday, March 11 before an earlier preemption shifted things), Ashland Locke might find his marriage to Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) upended when his father-in-law, Victor, (Eric Braeden), presents the Newman heiress with evidence that could prove Ashland is faking his life-threatening lung cancer. In an interview featured in the current issue of TV Guide Magazine, on newsstands now, Robert Newman who portrays Ashland told the publication, “I’m not quite sure who the good guys are and who the bad guys are,” referring to the battle between his character and Victor Newman. “It’s like a fast-moving speed chess game that these two are playing, where Ashland is just trying to stay one move ahead.” Thanks to Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc), Victor is able to provide Victoria with the evidence he needs to prove Ashland has been lying to everyone which could change how Victoria feels about her husband. “In my view, Ashland’s love for Victoria is real,” Newman says, referring to his character’s feelings for Victoria. “He’s figuring out how to protect his part of the business, but I personally think he’s petrified of losing her.” In a promo for this week’s episodes, Victor is shown telling Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) that Ashland is a fraud and he needs Nate’s help in not allowing Ashland to further damage Victoria. Frank and his knack for budgeting is definitely the reason. The budget is also pretty good considering the economics of running a soap. Considering the set was used for three purposes, and can be used for future purposes, it's a great idea to have it where characters can socialize with each other. The team at GH is solid despite gripes about the writing and the bloated cast.

While we’re weeks away from her on-screen debut on “General Hospital,” daytime newcomer Tabyana Ali is thankful for all the support she’s received from fans of the series in the hours since it was announced she would be taking over the role of Trina Robinson following the departure of the character’s original portrayer, Sydney Mikayla, who decided to leave the soap in order to concentrate full-time on her studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). “I’m so grateful to have this opportunity! After requesting to be placed on recurring status last fall, “General Hospital” actress Sydney Mikayla has now decided to leave the daytime drama series completely in order to concentrate full-time on her academics. Her last airdate is set for Thursday, March 17 with her role as Trina Robinson being recast with daytime newcomer Tabyana Ali who will make her debut later this month. “Sydney asked to leave in order to focus on college. We love her and are sad to see her go, but of course support her decision and wish her the best,” said Frank Valentini, the show’s executive producer, in a statement to Soap Opera Digest. As for Ali, Valentini says, “We’re excited to welcome Tabyana Ali and see what she’ll do with the role of Trina.” “I have loved working on ‘General Hospital,’ but I feel like this is the right time to dive in and enjoy my college experience to the fullest,” said Mikayla to Digest. “The cast has become family and bringing the character of Trina to life has been one of the best experiences of my career thus far. Thank you to Frank and the entire team for believing in me and giving me this wonderful opportunity. Just as one soap opera received a two-season renewal that’ll keep it on the air through its 37th season (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), another soap will end its run after 37 years on the air, albeit a non-American produced series. Fremantle announced this morning that after a failed attempt to find a new financial backer from the United Kingdom for its Australian soap “Neighbours,” the drama series that helped launch the careers of such superstars as Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth, Margot Robbie, and Kylie Minogue, among others, will conclude its run later this year. “We are so sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9000 episodes broadcast we have to confirm that ‘Neighbours’ will cease production in the summer,” read an announcement on the show’s Twitter page which has amassed more than 500 comments, over 1,000 retweets and nearly 2,700 likes. “Following the loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no option but to rest the show,” the message continued. “To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team. We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high. From here on, we are celebrating ‘Neighbours.’” In memory of the show’s long run, and throughout its final days, the show will utilize the hashtag “Celebrating Neighbours” in social media posts going forward. According to Deadline, ITV quickly emerged as a possible new home for the soap opera following last month’s news of the show’s possible cancellation. The outlet cited sources who claimed the network would be a “natural home” for the series. Unfortunately, with a renewed focus on UK content and the launch of its new streaming service ITVX, there was no room for the Australian-produced “Neighbours” on the schedule. Debuting March 18, 1985, “Neighbours” is currently the longest-running drama series in Australian television history. The series first aired on Seven network before it was canceled a few months later due to its poor performance in the Sydney market. The show was later moved to the 10 network in 1986 and remained on the channel until 2010. In 2011, the show moved to 10 Peach, a free-to-air television channel run by 10 network. Channel 5 which had been airing “Neighbours” in the UK since 2008 noted in a statement last month, “Neighbours will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer. Although “The Talk” has yet to be officially picked up for a 13th season by CBS, the show’s longest-running co-host, Sheryl Underwood, is expected to remain with the show through at least season 15. Underwood has reportedly signed a multi-year deal to continue co-hosting the daytime talk show along with signing a two-year first-look development deal with CBS Studios. “‘The Talk’ will forever be my home; I have no intentions of going anywhere, but while I have this platform and while I have access to the audience, I want to be as integral in the success of the corporation of CBS as I possibly can,” Underwood told Variety recently. “I want to be able to create content — not just for me to star in, but for other people to get the same opportunity and go on the same journey, especially women and stand-up comics.” Underwood has been a staple at “The Talk” since September 2011, when she joined the panel during the show’s second season. Since then, she has won numerous Daytime Emmy Awards as one of the show’s co-hosts. In fact, Underwood has co-hosted the awards show itself on many occasions, including alongside her fellow co-hosts, multiple times with “Access Hollywood” host Mario Lopez (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), and more recently all by herself in 2021. “Sheryl has been critical to ‘The Talk’s’ success for more than a decade and we’re excited that she will be part of the conversation for several years to come,” said George Cheeks, CEO of CBS Corporation, in a statement. “Having the chance to share her unique voice and storytelling through this new partnership with CBS Studios is a creative way to expand our valued partnership.” Recalling her time at “The Talk,” Underwood notes, “Never in my life would I think I would be No. 1 on the call sheet — never. During the week of February 21-25, 2022, “Days of our Lives” came back from a two-week hiatus slightly above its most recent performance in both Women 18-49 (0.43 rating vs 0.42 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.28 rating vs 0.27 rating). In Total Viewers, however, the soap was down with a loss of more than 100,000 viewers compared to its performance during the week of January 31-February 4, 2022 (1.739 million vs 1.850 million viewers). The soap was off schedule from February 4-February 18, 2022 due to NBC’s coverage of the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing. CBS soaps “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” not only had to deal with preemptions on the West coast on Tuesday, February 22 and Wednesday, February 23 as the network aired live coverage of the “UEFA Champions League” games for the second consecutive week on those two days, the shows were also impacted by a last minute decision to air reruns in place of originals on Thursday, February 24 due to President Biden’s speech on the situation in Ukraine. Episodes originally scheduled to air on that day were instead pushed to Friday, February 25; thereafter episodes are behind a day from originally scheduled. For the week, “The Young and the Restless” fell the hardest in Total Viewers across daytime broadcast, down -369,000 viewers week to week, while attracting its lowest overall audience since the week of December 21-25, 2020 (3.136 million vs 3.092 million viewers). This, of course, was mostly due to the aforementioned repeat airing which was factored into the show’s weekly average. On the other hand, the daytime drama series actually performed relatively well in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating despite the repeat factored in. “Let’s Make a Deal” had another strong week, holding onto fourth place in Women 18-49 rating (0.40 vs 0.38) despite being preempted on the West coast for UEFA coverage. Week to week, the game show gained +260,000 viewers for its second half-hour and another gain of +159,000 for its first half-hour, ranking third and sixth, respectively, in Total Viewers. It should be noted that both half hours of “Let’s Make a Deal” are based on the Monday, February 21; Thursday, February 24; and Friday, February 25 airings only. Nielsen did not count the show’s ratings on either day the show was preempted due to UEFA coverage which explains the higher than normal averages for the week. “The View” again saw viewership gains with Whoopi Goldberg back at the table. The show gained +67,000 viewers week to week and moved up in ranking in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54. Airing only three episodes last week due to “UEFA Champions League” coverage on CBS displacing it on a national level, “The Talk” fell week to week among Total Viewers, averaging just 1.485 million viewers across its Monday, Thursday and Friday airings. On Thursday and Friday, the show was interrupted for CBS News coverage. For two consecutive Tuesdays and Wednesdays in February (February 15/16; February 22/23, 2022) CBS covered the “UEFA Champions League” games along with a pre-game show that displaced “The Talk” on a national level and preempted “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Let’s Make a Deal,” primarily on the West coast. The latter three were either aired in overnight slots on CBS stations, aired on a sister station in select markets, or only available to viewers via the CBS App or Paramount+. “The Talk” did not air on either day. Sadly for the network, ratings were less than stellar for the sport. Clubs competing this year include Chelsea (England), Liverpool (England), Manchester United (England), Paris Saint-Germain (France), Salzburg (Austria), LOSC Lille (France), Benfica (Portugal), and Bayern München (Germany), among others. The games were either aired exclusively on CBS (available to Paramount+ subscribers via their local CBS station) or Paramount+ only. According to Nielsen ratings data available courtesy of the folks at ShowBuzzDaily, of the four competition games aired on CBS thus far the match between Club Atlético de Madrid vs Manchester United on Wednesday, February 22 performed the best among Total Viewers (856,000), Households (0.5 rating) and Adults 18-49 Viewers (266,000), the primary sales demo used to set ad rates for sports and other non-female centric programming. Note: Daytime soaps, talk shows and game shows use Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 to set ad rates. The lowest rated game was a mixed bag. In Total Viewers, the Wednesday, February 16 match between FC Internazionale Milano vs Liverpool FC was seen by just 727,000 viewers while the Tuesday, February 22 game between Chelsea FC vs LOSC Lille averaged merely 196,000 viewers in Adults 18-49 with an abysmal 0.4 Household rating. “General Hospital” finally concluded the Peter August (Wes Ramsey) storyline last week when the character succumbed to his injuries following a fall over an embankment that was preceded by a hit over the head with a tire iron by Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) who was trying to save her daughter, Maxie (Kirsten Storms), from Peter’s reign of terror. In a new interview, the show’s head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor talk about their decision to kill off Peter, how they chose which characters would ultimately handle the final act, and what’s next for all of the characters involved. “When you have a villain who has left a wake of bodies in their path as Peter has over the last four-and-a-half years, you certainly know that the ending to that story needs to be big,” shares O’Connor to Soap Opera Digest in the magazine’s latest issue, on newsstands now. “We ran through countless different scenarios of how to come up with an ending that was not only produceable, given the confines of our show, but also exciting and big and not just any other episode of the show. It needed to be bigger. It needed to be spectacular. Photo by Troy Harvey/ABC With Felicia handing the deathly blow and Anna standing by without providing any medical assistance, coupled together Peter met his maker on the Wednesday, February 23 episode and it wasn’t hard to imagine why those two characters were chosen for the role they played in Peter’s demise. “Felicia was so connected to the story, even when she was not on screen, and it was important to us that she have a big role in the final chapter,” explains O’Connor to Digest. “This is Maxie’s mother. This is somebody who would do anything to keep her children safe. We thought the audience would love the surprise of Felicia’s role in Peter’s demise – but just as importantly, we always knew the final moment had to be between Anna and Peter. Anna wished Peter to be at peace just as he passed with his eyes still open. Afterward, a tearful Anna, who had been holding his hand in his final moments, closed Peter’s eyes and walked away from his body as the audience saw the character one final time. Later in the week, it was noted by Sam (Kelly Monaco) that the WSB had collected Peter’s body, confirming the character had indeed died. Sean Blakemore’s return to “General Hospital” has been cut short. The actor announced today that he is leaving the daytime drama series less than a year since reprising the contract role of Shawn Butler, citing “other obligations” as the reason. When a fan asked Blakemore if rumors were true of his leaving, Blakemore took to Twitter to set the record straight, saying, “I appreciate you and ALL my wonderful supporters! I was absolutely NOT let go. It was my decision to exit the show because of other obligations.” He added, “The GH family has been great to me! Who knows whts to come in the near future.” Blakemore did not elaborate on what the “other obligations” were. Prior to his return to the soap last year, his character had spent time in Pentonville for the shooting of Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig), a crime he didn’t commit and was wrongfully convicted of, albeit not many knew the real truth at the time. Since returning, Shawn reconnected with his ex, Jordan Ashford (then played by Briana Nicole Henry), and their son, TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow). Additionally, other characters, namely Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) are now aware that it was Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) who shot Hayden, and not Shawn. With Jordan set to return to Port Charles with a new face (Tanisha Harper) next month, it’s unclear whether the role of Shawn will be recast or if Blakemore’s exit will play into Jordan’s reason for returning. A rep for “General Hospital” was unavailable for comment at press time. The network has a policy of not commenting on actor contracts. Blakemore won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2016 for his portrayal. Amanda Kloots will be off of “The Talk” for the next couple of days as she is currently quarantined at home after announcing she recently tested positive for a breakthrough case of COVID-19. In a post on Instagram, Kloots revealed that she was vaccinated and boosted at the time of her testing positive, saying, “I am feeling completely normal now and feel very grateful for that.”2` Revealing she recently came back from a trip to Mexico where she had tested negative both before and after her trip, the fact that she is now positive was a surprise to her. “This is the first time I’ve tested positive since the pandemic. I will hopefully be back to work soon but taking this time at home with Elvis to start potty training!!!! Melissa Reeves is returning to “Days of our Lives” next week when her character, Jennifer Horton, pops back into Salem to join Jack (Matthew Ashford) in awaiting news on their daughter, Abigail (Marci Miller), who’s been missing. Jack returned to Salem earlier this week after learning about Abigail’s sudden disappearance. In addition to Ashford, look for Reeves to share scenes with Leann Hunley’s Anna and Paul Telfer’s Xander, among others. Reeves is expected to air during the latter portion of the week, particularly Thursday, March 3 and Friday, March 4. Reeves and her real-life husband, Scott (“General Hospital,” “The Young and the Restless”), recently announced that they are expecting their fourth grandchild. Although an official cause of death has yet to be determined by the coroner’s office, which instead has deferred its findings “pending additional investigation,” reports indicate that “General Hospital” actress Lindsey Pearlman had left two suicide notes before her body was found last Friday in a car parked near Runyon Canyon Park in Los Angeles. According to TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, Pearlman reportedly called her husband, Vance Smith, the day before her body was found telling him her intention to end her life. “Her husband contacted police in a frantic effort to find Lindsey. He never saw her alive again,” the website stated. “We’re told Lindsey drove to the base of Runyon Canyon in Hollywood — a popular hiking spot — and swallowed enough pills to fatally overdose. A hiker came upon her car last Friday, saw her body inside and called police,” TMZ further revealed. The outlet said that Pearlman had left a suicide note at her home and left one in her car which indicated that whoever was to find her that they were to call 911. “Investigators learned Lindsey suffered from bouts of depression over the years, and it appears it just became too overwhelming,” said TMZ. “Please know that you are never truly alone,” wrote Pearlman’s cousin, Savannah, on Twitter in the days following Lindsey’s death. She added, “Lindsey’s sister has asked that we share the National Suicide Hotline: 1-800-273-8255.” Earlier this week, Sarah Ardalani, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, said Pearlman “was examined by a physician and a cause of death was deferred.” She noted, “Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies. Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and makes the cause of death determination.” Appearing on “General Hospital” over two episodes aired in January 2020, Pearlman portrayed the role of barista Margaret “Maggie” McMorris. She shared scenes with series stars Maurice Benard, Steve Burton and Max Gail when their characters traveled to Brooklyn, NY so that Sonny (Benard) could get Mike (Gail) to take part in a clinical trial to help treat his Alzheimer’s disease. In a clip (shown below), Pearlman’s Maggie was used as a human shield at the Brooklyn Union Pub where she worked when Jason (Burton) shot a hitman to save her life. In addition to her recurring role on “General Hospital,” Pearlman’s other television credits included such shows as “Selena: The Series,” “American Housewife,” “The Purge,” “Chicago Justice” and “Empire,” among others. She also appeared as the lead in such films as “Signal to Noise” and “Pry Me Open.” In theatre, she appeared in numerous productions, including “Trevor,” “The Eight: Reindeer Monologues,” and “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot.” According to her website, Pearlman was a graduate of The Second City Conservatory and had been an active member in the Chicago theater scene before relocating to Los Angeles for more on-camera opportunities.
