  1. In honor of Black History Month, and part of FOX’s #TVForAll campaign, effective today, February 2, all 12 episodes of first season drama “Our Kind of People” are now available to view for free on Tubi, the streaming service from FOX Entertainment. “Our Kind of People” Photo by Robert Ascroft/FOX “Our Kind of People” is inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s provocative, critically acclaimed book, “Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class,” and takes place in the aspirational world of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, a historical stronghold where the rich and powerful Black elite have come to play for more than 50 years. The series stars Yaya DaCosta (“Chicago Med,” “All My Children”), Morris Chestnut (“The Resident”), Joe Morton (“Scandal”), Nadine Ellis (“Let’s Stay Together”), Lance Gross (“Hawaii 5-0”), Rhyon Nicole Brown (“Empire”), Kyle Bary (“Ginny & Georgia”), Debbi Morgan (“Power Book II: Ghost,” “All My Children”) and newcomer Alana Bright. There’s no word yet on whether “Our Kind of People” will receive a second season from FOX but in an interview with Deadline, series creator Karin Gist said, “If we get a second season, it’s going to be even more explosive. There will be more family complications, about the sisters, and bringing the family back together. I’m also excited about adding some new characters that shake up the world a bit and exploring the themes of power and access. I think that’s really relevant to what’s going on in our country, particularly through the lens of this really wealthy African American family. I’m really excited about where we could take this show and I know the audience is too.” In addition to “Our Kind of People,” the digital documentary “Making History in Hollywood” is also available on Tubi and features Malcolm-Jamal Warner (“The Resident”), Brian Michael Smith (“9-1-1: Lone Star”), Dulcé Sloan (“The Great North”), Kyla Pratt (CALL ME KAT), Sierra McClain (“9-1-1: Lone Star”), Karin Gist (“Our Kind of People”) and Debbi Morgan (“Our Kind of People”), as they discuss their triumphs and personal experiences working in Hollywood while spotlighting notable figures who inspired them. This month, #TVForAll debuts a special Black History Month anthem, written and performed by Tisha Campbell Martin and Dani Wright, and produced by PK. The anthem will be shared across local FOX stations and FOX digital all month long. Launched in early 2020, the campaign provides a space to highlight, champion and celebrate diverse voices across FOX Entertainment. Watch a promo featuring the anthem below. 2. It’s been more than a year since it was announced that ABC had put into development a primetime spinoff of “All My Children,” entitled “Pine Valley,” and since then there has been virtually no news on when fans could expect to see some of their favorite characters back on screen, if at all. That could soon change according to Susan Lucci (ex-Erica Kane), who recently revealed that there has been some movement on the project but COVID has put a delay on things, for now. Speaking with PEOPLE about her ongoing collaboration with the American Heart Association and its Go Red for Women initiative, the soap icon told the publication, “There has been movement. I wish it was a quicker movement, but yes, everything in terms of being in the right hands, as far as I know, would be in place.” “It’s really interesting, and the concept is so good,” Lucci added. “[It’s] in the right hands … [with] Kelly Ripa [ex-Hayley Vaughan Santos; “Live with Kelly and Ryan”] and her husband, Mark Consuelos [ex-Mateo Santos], who are both so terrific. They would be executive producers, so I’m really hoping that this is going to actually go forward.” As for why things have been delayed, Lucci put the blame on COVID, saying, “COVID is in play again, and things are slowed down.” The potential series is based on the town in which the daytime soap opera took place (Pine Valley) and will follow a young journalist with a secret agenda looking to expose the dark and murderous history of the town only to become entangled in a feud between the Kane and Santos families. The series plans to explore all the secrets that come with the Kane and Santos family names. Lucci has already indicated she will be part of the show should get picked up by ABC. In addition to Ripa and Consuelos, who will also serve as executive producers, “Pine Valley” is being spearheaded Leo Richardson (“EastEnders,” “Katy Keene,” “Star”), Andrew Stearn and Robert Nixon, son of the late Agnes Nixon, creator of both “AMC” and “One Life to Live.” Since submitting the producer’s draft for the potential series last February, Richardson has left the potential series in the hands of those above him (i.e. network executives). “I wrote the script, true to what I pitched and sold to ABC, and we are waiting now,” he said last year. “I am incredibly proud of what we have cooked up and we will keep you posted. Fingers crossed for us please.” Hulu Originals and ABC President Craig Erwich glossed over a question on the potential show’s status when asked during his turn at last month’s TCA press tour. “I don’t have any updates on that project right now,” he said. 3. It looks like “General Hospital” is finally getting some mainstream press attention thanks to the likes of TV Guide Magazine and TV Line, the popular entertainment website founded by former soap magazine journalist Michael Ausiello who also serves as the site’s president and editorial director. Courtesy of TV Guide Magazine In the Cheers & Jeers section of the latest issue of TV Guide (January 31-February 13, 2022), on newsstands now, senior writer Damian Holbrook gives the soap a “cheer” for killing off Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) last month, saying, “Cheers to ‘General Hospital’ for pulling the plug on Luke Spencer. Having Anthony Geary’s bad boy perish in a cable-car accident is a big swing that could pay off if the mystery surrounding his shady offscreen death drives more eyes to the ABC soap.” The town of Port Charles mourned Luke on the January 21 episode which netted a 0.40 rating in Women 18-49 and a 0.59 rating in Women 25-54. Overall, the full week averaged 2.184 million viewers, down -125,000 viewers compared to the show’s prior week averages. Courtesy of TVLine Media, LLC/PMC Meanwhile, Ausiello recently tweeted, “#GeneralHospital has maintained a level of quality these past 2 years that’s miraculous, given the forces working against daytime soaps (namely budget tightening, pandemic). Smart writing/direction, A+ cast, plots that tie into show’s history. Gives me hope for genre.” Ausiello previously worked for both Soap Opera Update and Soaps In Depth before segueing to TV Guide in 1999. He also worked for Entertainment Weekly before finally launching TV Line in 2011. The publication is owned by Penske Media Corporation. Do you agree with TV Guide and TV Line? 4. Lindsay Hartley will once again step in for Kelly Monaco on “General Hospital,” appearing as Sam McCall over “a handful of episodes” beginning Thursday, February 3. According to Soap Opera Digest, which first reported the news, Monaco took a brief break from the role in January but has already returned to the show’s Prospect Studios set and is back taping. Since scripts are written well in advance of production, it was impossible for the show to write out the character even temporarily, requiring the need for a substitute. Hartley had already portrayed the part in August 2020 when Monaco was unavailable after she reportedly was forced into a 14-day quarantine following a breathing problem related to a mask on the first day back shooting after the show got the greenlight from Los Angeles County during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. Monaco praised Hartley’s portrayal of Sam, giving thanks for “stepping in and doing a beautiful job playing Sam. Girl.. you kicked ass. Way to go.” In addition to “General Hospital,” Hartley has also appeared on the soaps “Days of our Lives” and “Passions.” Behind the scenes she’s become a staple at Lifetime, directing several movies for the network including “Killer Ambition” starring “The Bold and the Beautiful” actor Sean Kanan (Deacon Sharpe). 6. With Eric Martsolf helping announce the end of the DOOL App last week, it’s only fitting that the actor would be the first to introduce new “Days of our Lives” content to the show’s official YouTube channel where producer Corday Productions plans to publish original digital content going forward. In a video, published yesterday, February 1, entitled “Drinks with Eric Martsolf,” the actor, who plays Brady Black on the daytime drama series, can be seen sitting at a table on the set of the Brady Pub facing the camera while answering pre-set questions with the implication that he’s talking directly to the fans of the show. Screengrab via @NBCDays/YouTube Questions answered by Martsolf included where he drew his inspiration from when it came to deciding to become an actor, what sports he played while growing up, where’s he’s from, how he met his wife, his favorite color, what he likes to do with his free time, what makes him happy, and finally when the last time he cried. Watch the clip below to hear his answers. Note: The post ‘Days of our Lives’ Welcomes Viewers to YouTube via ‘Drinks with Eric Martsolf’ – VIDEO appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 7. Robert Newman will be taking over the role of business tycoon Ashland Locke on “The Young and the Restless” beginning Wednesday, February 9, and we have your first look at the actor in a scene alongside his on-screen spouse Amelia Heinle (Victoria Newman) as the two share a pleasant moment together in the office. See the photo below. Photo by Monty Brinton/CBS It was announced last month that Newman would replace Richard Burgi in the role after the actor was let go when he was found to be in violation of the show’s COVID-19 protocols. “I showed up to work and it was not within the show’s guidelines, which was a ten-day protocol, so I inadvertently violated the show’s COVID rules and protocols,” Burgi said at the time, revealing he instead followed the CDC recommended five day quarantine period after testing positive over the Christmas holiday. “I felt terrible about it, I still do. It bothers me mightily but I respect whatever the show’s decision is.” The show opted to immediately replace Burgi with Newman. Prior to joining television’s highest-rated and most-watched daytime drama series, Newman is probably best known to soap fans for his 28-year portrayal of Joshua Lewis on “Guiding Light,” which despite its cancellation in 2009 still remains the longest-running program in broadcast history. Outside of soaps, “Newman has guest-starred in such shows as “House of Cards,” “Chicago Fire,” “Homeland,” “Criminal Minds,” “NCIS” and “Law & Order: SVU.” His film credits include “Amazing Spider-Man 2,” “Dracano,” and the short film “Deadline,” which in 2014 earned him a Best Actor award at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival. He’s also appeared in the Off-Broadway productions “Perfect Crime,” “She’s of a Certain Age,” “Sessions: The Musical,” and “Quiet on the Set.” Shortly after the news of his casting broke last month, Newman posted on Facebook, saying, “Thanks to everyone for the sweet posts and messages about my joining the cast of Y&R. I couldn’t be more pleased. I’ve had great respect for the show and [its] wonderful cast for many, many years. I’m happy to be a part of it. I had a lovely zoom meeting with [co-executive producer/head writer] Josh Griffith and [executive producer] Anthony Morina last night. We talked quite a bit about the character, and I’m very excited by the scripts I’m getting so far. I’m scared to death, of course, but I think that’s healthy.” He added, “It’ll be a new adventure and I’m feeling pretty blessed to have the opportunity. Cheers!” Note: The post Robert Newman’s First Airdate as Ashland Locke on ‘The Young and the Restless’ Revealed + First Look Photo appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. Read More

  10. If you’re tuning in to “The Bold and the Beautiful” this week, look for Brooke Logan’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) world to get rocked as the revelation that the kiss between her and “Santa Clause” could soon come out when Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) and Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) seek to verify little Douglas’ (Henry Joseph Samiri) recollection of the New Year’s Eve liplock between Brooke and Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, who it turns out was really Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) wearing a Santa hat. Officially, everyone only knows that Brooke had fallen off the wagon and not that she shared an intimate moment with her ex. So, it’s not a surprise that Brooke is “scared to death that Ridge [Thorsten Kaye] is going to just blow up and walk out” when the truth comes out, according to Lang who recently sat for an interview with TV Insider’s Jim Halterman, which was also published in the newest issue of TV Guide Magazine. Although she’s unaware of how things could unravel, particularly that Douglas had seen the kiss from afar, it’s her worrying too much that is raising her stress levels sky-high. “Brooke doesn’t realize it’s all unraveling,” Lang says previewing the Tuesday, February 1 episode. “As hard as she’s trying to keep it quiet and tell half-truths, she thinks she’s OK.” Photo by Sonja Flemming/CBS As for how Thomas and Steffy plan to get to the bottom of what really happened, the siblings plan to gain access to Brooke’s home security tapes which Lang jokes while asking, “Why hasn’t Brooke thought about that?”All in all, the big revelation that Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) ultimately tampered with the champagne bottle by placing a nonalcoholic label over a regular bottle, thereby ending Brooke’s sobriety, is just one of several climaxes this storyline is expected to take which is something Lang is looking forward to. “I can’t wait until Brooke finds out!” she said. 11. Get ready for the return of Sami Brady DiMera! Portrayer Alison Sweeney revealed in a post on her Instagram story on Monday that she is back filming at “Days of our Lives.” Posting two behind-the-scenes stories which showed herself and co-star Arianne Zucker (Nicole Walker) in a compilation of photos from the show’s hair and makeup room, Sweeney captioned one post, saying, “We can’t even pose for a photo without cracking each other up.” The second post showed Sweeney playing in Zucker’s hair doing exactly that. Sweeney has been off-screen since early January when Sami and Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo) decided to leave town to rebuild their relationship and to allow Sami to get some distance from all the drama surrounding her husband EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) who is currently spending some time behind bars for allegedly kidnapping her. In reality, Lucas is the one who did the deed. Reprising the role of Sami in 2017, two years after departing as a full-time cast member, Sweeney’s latest stint is expected to be brief as she is currently only available for short story arcs in order to accommodate her very packed work schedule that includes producing and starring in a host of Hallmark original movies throughout the year. “I love playing Sami, but no, full-time is not the plan for me because I produce and develop content for Hallmark, and for other streaming services,” Sweeney told PEOPLE last year while promoting the Peacock original movie, “Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas.” “I love getting to do my own projects: I love producing,” she noted, adding, “It’s really been such a joy, and such a new, fresh, fun challenge for me. I do feel so blessed to be able to have the best of both worlds. The opportunity to go back to ‘DAYS,’ it feels like going home again, to be honest with you. It’s like visiting my family during the holidays. I get to see everyone. I get to play Sami. I get to go home. But then I get to go out and develop these projects and do other things, and expand myself, and push myself.” An official on-air return date for Sweeney is not yet known but the show does film approximately six months ahead of airdate. 12. Following an announcement last week that Corday Productions will be shutting down the DOOLApp and will be moving the bulk of the app’s previously produced digital content to the official YouTube channel for “Days of our Lives,” Soap Opera Network has learned exclusively that fans of the daytime drama series can look forward to seeing the first all-new digital release on the video platform on Tuesday, February 1, just days before the series goes on a more than two-week hiatus as a result of NBC’s presentation of the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing. The push to YouTube allows the company to better reach the show’s international viewers who have been virtually shut out from viewing previously produced digital content up to now. With international viewers in mind, digital content will be available to markets outside of the United States wherever licensing is not an issue. Content will be released on a weekly basis on the YouTube channel, including the weekly teaser clip highlighting what’s to come in future episodes of the soap, among other original content planned. First released in November 2018, the DOOLApp featured news, interviews, clips, and other media that brought cast members closer to the fans. The app will be fully shuttered by the end of February. “Days of our Lives” will be off the air beginning Friday, February 4 through Friday, February 18. The series returns with all-new episodes on Monday, February 21. 14. Agree with you to an extent. However, their audience is not as social media engaged as Wendy is due to Wendy having a vastly younger audience. Social media engagements and ratings do not go hand in hand. You also have to factor in that with its much higher ratings, people are less likely to watch the same content online that they already saw on TV. Hmm. This is a positive story...
  15. Despite a lavish steampunk-themed wedding where the two exchanged vows in front of a multitude of family, friends and colleagues, soap stars Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos, “General Hospital”) and Courtney Hope (Sally Spectra, “The Young and the Restless”) apparently were never officially married, Duell revealed during an interview with daytime superstar Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos, “General Hospital”) on the most recent episode of his YouTube series, “MB: State of Mind.” Released on Sunday, January 30, the 30-minute plus conversation between Benard and Duell touched upon various topics, including the revelation that Duell’s younger sister, Mackenzie, was put up for adoption right after she was born by their mother due to personal circumstances at the time and how the family reconnected with her years later, how Benard wasn’t very nice to Duell for an extended period of time after the younger actor’s 2010 hiring, the result of Benard’s close bond with the Michael character’s previous portrayer, dealing with the pressures of working on a daytime drama series, and most importantly addressing the elephant in the room – Duell’s October 23, 2021 wedding to Courtney Hope. Courtney Hope, Chad Duell Courtesy of @thecourtneyhope/Instagram With about five minutes left in their conversation, Benard brought up Duell’s split from Hope, saying to Duell, “I love Courtney, you love Courtney, and this has something to do another variable [or] whatever that you guys aren’t together. But, like I keep telling you, it’s a beautiful thing that you can still talk to her. She even sometimes messages me… we still have a relationship cause she’s great and you’re great. So, on that note…” With the floor now open to him, Duell stated, “Out of respect to her, I’m not going to delve too much into all of this stuff. All I’d say is she’s an amazing person, she’s an amazing woman, [and] she’s an amazing dog mom. “It’s a complicated situation, and it’s not what anybody thinks. I’m not going to get into detail, but it’s not what people think. It’s just… there [wasn’t] anything terrible that happened or someone did to anybody else. We’re still on good terms and she’s an amazing person in so many ways.” Duell further stated, “All I have to say is positive things and it’s just…mutual, we didn’t actually sign anything. We weren’t really, like, you know, married or anything really. It was amicable, kinda just that. That’s all I can really say. We always want the best for each other, and that’s all I really can say.” Without naming names, Benard ended his chat with Duell telling him he’s personally seen relationships that far outlasted their expiration date. “The fact that you both parted ways now and not waited is so much better, and I give both of you a ton of credit for that,” Benard told his on-screen son. 17. Not defending the show but I still understand mentioning Mr. Roger's Neighborhood over As The World Turns.
  18. YouTube ads, like most/all online advertising, are user generated in that your typical habits online tells them what content you are more likely to watch in terms of what ads they should show. This is more so from a stats perspective in that each YouTube channel has a core demographic, and when you have registered watchers watching your content you can easily get an idea of what these people are like in terms of race, age, location, etc. While the channel doesn't control the ads itself (all done by YouTube algorithm), it wouldn't be surprising to see ads like movie trailers and the like. The median age of a YouTube watcher is vastly lower than that of the typical soap median age on a broadcast network so by posting on YouTube the exposure is helping generate a more youthfully engaged demo. Far from the classic episodes fans are clamoring for.
  19. It was so long ago I'm not surprised. Not to mention ATWT has been off the air for over 10 years. If it were Y&R/B&B, which are still on the air, then I'd understand.
  20. Definitely agree. However, the DAYS channel is run by NBC and not one run by Corday itself like the B&B YT page is run exclusively by the Bell family, so this is probably a 50/50 revenue share between NBC and Corday/Sony. It's not like Peacock can include that content as it stands and NBC.com isn't generating the revenue anymore like it use to since the ABC and NBC network websites have become devoid of any real content. So, yeah, I do believe this is in response to B&B and its posting episodes every day and likely generating good revenue. Being that DAYS is more socially involved (meaning social media, not real-life issues), I'd expect larger audience for DAYS in that regard. If you never noticed, the reason GH posts daily five minute clips of each episode is because they are getting revenue from that clip on YouTube and Facebook Watch. This is an additional method for the soaps to supplement their revenue for their production studios and/or their broadcast networks. YouTube is still king in terms of getting your content in front of the right audience, and a large one at that.
  21.
