That's quite nice, but the show doesn't revolve around you and what you want. You obviously don't even like what makes Passions Passions.

You obviously havent read SIPorts recaps when the show USED to feature vets and was actually watchable.

Yeah but that works both ways. You want it to revolve around the young people and that can only get so far. The show won't survive doing what it did with Vendetta. Yes Theresa/Ethan/Gwen, Sheridan/Luis, etc are money characters but your teen demo only makes up a small part of the viewing audience. This is the CW or MTV-Passions needs to excell in more then the teen numbers to survive. If things go the way you want them then the show will be gone by next year. Passions used to be right up there with Days in the women 18-34 demo and now it is near the bottom. It's HH numbers have been at and still are near record lows but, according to you, that is ok as long as we still have a stronghold on the teen demo.

SiPort has watched Passions like I have since the beginning so there is knowledge there. Many of us on here have watched it and I came so close on May to turning off Passions for good-as did a good deal of us. With JER coming back full-time and the show showing signs of old Passions we are all keeping an eye on the show to see how it does and if it can get back to 1999-2001 Passions when the numbers were great and show was the most talked about on daytime. No one talks about it now-its a laughingstock rather then a phenomenon. You say we don't know what makes Passions Passiones but your desire to eliminate the older characters shows you don't know what makes Passions Passions either. The core family comppnent is one of the biggest things that makes Passions unique and getting rid of who you want to would be steering further away from what is truly Passions so in a way you are contradicting yourself and showing you don't know what the true identity of the show is.

Well put, Phoenix, well put!!

I IMPLORE you, RionPassions, PLEASE read Phoenix's post over and over and over again. Because he's right. This isn't a difference of opinion. It really is fact versus misconception. I'm not sure if you watched since the very beginning or not, or if you just tuned out half the show from 1999-2004, because that's what the show was about: balance among the age groups. And the best stories, by far, have come from the "vets." Crystal, Orville and the Bird statue, anyone?! Yeah, that involved Chad's search for his parents but had more to do with delving head-on into the Julian and Eve's past love. Ivy's secret on Ethan's true paternity? Ivy's constant machinations to win Sam back? David and the blackmail? Julian's mistresses and his romps with Rebecca and her donkey? THIS is what "Passions" is about. Whether or not anyone on this board liked some of the stories mentioned, they all show the great involvement of the "vets" from the past. And remember the great "Passions" storm and how, even though it was a high school prom story, it also had great integration of the older characters? Hell, the same was even true for the mineshaft! Come hell or highwater, JER almost ALWAYS grouped the older and young sets together for the biggest events. That way, each viewer got SOMETHING out of it. These days, if you don't like Theresa, Ethan, Shuis or the younger characters, you were screwed with "Vendetta." And sorry, but Alistair's not enough. This show was LOST when it lost its balance and intrigue for both age groups. Now, it's finally coming back, along with the camp and the supernatural hijinks from the TRUE "Passions" of old. Let's sing praise!!

It IS a matter of opinion. NONE of the stories focusing on the old characters were as interesting as say, Theresa and Ethan's romance or Zombie Charity or Chad and Whitney's love. If I wanted to watch 40+ characters romp around, I'd watch a CBS soap. Passions has ALWAYS, ALWAYS been youth-oriented, and that's why popular couples like Theresa/Ethan, Sheridan/Luis, Charity/Miguel, and Chad/Whitney rule the screen. I don't see teen fans rooting for Eve/Julian--that's the older fans you hear cheering for them.

Frankly, I don't like this ageist attitude I'm seeing around here. Passions has always been the soap where the adults are seen through the eyes of the youth: Eve/TC are seen through Simone and Whitney, Sam and Grace are seen through Jessica and Kay, etc...

As for the supernatural, that's always been the best part of the show in my eyes. I too hate the Jessica storyline, but at least it's more entertaining than Ivy getting away with murder yet again, or Eve and Julian making googly eyes at each other.

I'm actually pretty damned astonished with the Vendetta backlash. It's been the most interesting, entertaining story in years. We got:

-The return of Beth, Passions' supreme villainess

-The return of Edna and Norma, and all of their craziness (the lesbian bar and the stuff in Al's lair)

-The religious and artistic aspects

-SIMONE AND PALOMA FRONT-BURNER FINALLY!

-The mysterious monk manipulating Whitney

-The whole quest for the chalice, including the VR goggles and the beast that pulled Whitney through the catacombs

-The cryptic nun and the fireworks that occurred when Alistair finally got the chalice

-Maya's death

-The resolution of Noah's mystery storyline with Lena

-The return of Esme, a comic scene-stealer

-The Fancy/Luis pairing

-The revelation that Little Ethan is Ethan's son, not Julian's

-Chad and Whitney discover they aren't related at all and reunite

Frankly, it was a great idea to backburner the vets like Sheridan, Eve, Julian, Sam, Ivy, TC, Katherine, Martin, and Pilar. It was refreshing to see a story that focused on Simone and Paloma for once. Even Jessica's involvement was good until she married Spike.

Now that Vendetta is over, Passions can slowly work the older characters back in, but it was definitely nice to get a break from them. Simone and Paloma finally got a chance to shine, and huge pay-offs occurred for Therethan and Chadney, so as a fan, I was most pleased.

Oh, SIPORT's recaps were cool. Back when she actually gave a damn - and I did too.

I never liked them. They were way too biased and full of Theresa-hating garbage.

Ok the good news is the older characters are being played more lately. Eve and Julian are back along with TC, we are seeing Ivy and Sam now that they are being thrown back into Kay/Fox/Miguel, we are seeing shades of classic Tabitha with what happened today with Ivy (plus we got a burned at the stake flashback), and Sheridan is back (unfortunately). The bad news is the stories are still not up to par but things are getting better and with JER back they should continue to. JER will never get rid of the older characters-he knows better.

Everything about Vendetta sucked but the last few weeks (everything before Luis/Fancy and the motorcycle chase stunk everything after was better) have been an improvement. Oh, and what a coincidence, the older characters have been shown more of late-the same time the show got better and has at least stabilized their numbers. Hmm

Now me saying Vendetta sucks is an opinion. However, me saying that the stories with the older characters are better is not. Passions got rave reviews for being diverse, balanced, etc. It had something for everyone. They drew teens yes but they also seeked older viewers too. They knew they had to for survival. Are you really telling me zombie Charity was better the Eve's past and the bird statue/rivalry with Ivy? Now that may be your opinion but don't jump on us for something that you are doing. You mean to say YOU LIKED zombie Charity and you liked all those stories. This is just basic facts-no soap can survive relying just on teens and getting those numbers. Passions wants that audience yes but they need more then that and that is why the ratings have dropped to very low levels.

You are the one with the ageist attitude. Siport's reviews were great and that is my opinion and the reviews are opinions too. You may not like them but that is just you just like it's just you proposing a one-sided show that is NOT Passions. The older characters have never been seen through the eyes of the youth-they have been just as important. Most of Passions best stories have been older character stories. Maybe teenyboppers love Charity/Miguel and all that but what happens when they grow up and their taste changes? Ethan/Theresa have been in this circle for so long no one cares. Whitney's love? No one cared the minute Donn Swaby left as Chad and now no one cares after the incest angle. Whether or not they are siblings or not, the images are still there. These are observation from other Passions fans so these are not just my opinion.

There are so many holes in your argument its silly. Go watch 1999-2002 Passions and maybe a little 2004 and then check you past ratings for those years and then come back and tell me you feel the same. Passions is a mix of supernatural and tradition based on 4 core families. FAMILIES. NOT THEIR KIDS. Your suggestion would be nothing but disrespecting the short history Passions has and would be the final nail in the show's coffin.

As for Vendetta backlash, the story was nothing but junk until the point I mentioned where it got decent. If you liked that all power to you but those that liked it as a whole are few and far between.

Ah....Theresa-hating garbage...this explains so much.

Why don't you give your real name from other boards, so I'll know who I'm debating.

As for the precious teen demographic that you think Passions cares so much about....they've lost the leadin THAT TOO over this time of Vet obliteration.

Thanks for that great point SIPort. Further evidence that this poster's argument is ridiculous. This shows that even the precious teen demo is not into Passions and also supports that fact that they care about the older characters too.

Now I really want to see your response to this RionPassions because this really does blow whatever was left of your pointless argument to smithereens.

Did anyone else really not dig what happened with Ivy today? It was funny and classic Tabby, but I just felt like it was a bad sign of things to come as in cast-cutting and Ulrich.

No-I thought it was a good sign. I think it is a good sign that we are seeing her again. I don't get how you thought it was bad LOL?

I wouldn't worry about the cuts anymore KR-they are done pretty much. I knwo you don't go to spoiler island much anymore but the post there about the casting news in TV Guide pretty much listed who is on and an out and it made it sound like those announced there was it. TC really is the only one in danger now IMO.

If Ulrich was out, they would have announced her with all the rest that have been axed of late. I also think Passions won't get rid of her because she is foil to Fox and Kay and I know for a fact JER has not forgot Grace and Sam and that whole thing. I feel pretty confident that Ivy is safe now-I didn't feel that way a few weeks ago though.

Being Ivy and Ulrich's biggest fan and her being my favorite character, I just found it kind of embarassing/insulting (for the character, obviously), and not a good sign. If she could be a target of Endora and Siren's nonsense, who knows what is next.

Ah ok. Well, I think it is compliment when Passions uses someone for things like this. It's classic Passions and the actors normally get a kick out of it so I don't see it as insulting. I do like her getting more involved in story. I guess I just didn't see it the same why but, again, I am about 98% sure she is safe. If I had any suspicion she wasn't , I may have saw this the same way. JER needs Ivy-she stirs the pot so I don't see her going anywhere. He needs her to like Days's Kate  .

Okay, I feel that you misconstrued my comment, and I believe that's because I mistyped it. What I meant to say was, yes, you're entitled to your opinion, but you suggested that older characters and a sense of balance wasn't part of "Passions" from the beginning. And that's where it becomes a matter of fact: the "Passions" adults always played a prominent role on teh show. And it's not true that all the older characters were seen through the young 'uns' eyes, lol. I mean, Julian was off doing his own thing with his mistresses and having romps with Rebecca and her donkey - the kids certainly weren't involved! ; Ivy would stip down for Sam and break up a romantic getaway for Gram while the kids were miles away from that cottage. That, Rion, is what I meant when I said it's a matter of fact: the adults have always played a very important role on "Passions." The show has always had a youthful tone, but it always had a balance of young/old.

P.S. I liked "Vendetta," lol. But it did lag at times, and that could have been offset by riveting times with Eve, Ivy and Sam, Julian and the others in Harmony.

Good post JSF.

I am just waiting to see how RionPassions responds to the point SIPort brought up about the teen numbers even being down.

You are right on though-there is no way these adults saw themsleves through their kids. All of them had their own stories and the fallout would affect the young ones when things happened. The youth had their story and so did the adults and that is why the show took off. If it was one sided towards youth all these years, we probably would not be talking about this show right now.
