I'm quite honestly shocked that Y&R does SO well despite being re-aired on SOAPnet! Three times a day also!

I think it is a true testament to Y&R's continued success in daytime, in an age of budget cuts and falling ratings.

I also have to wonder if Y&R's ratings will increase even MORE than usual during holidays, since the show is being exposed to more working people and those too lazy to tape the shows during the day. During the new year, Y&R's rating was 4.8, right? What if it gets a 5. Or even MORE?!

I just hope a ballgame isn't airing on any major network that day.

Nice to see AMC at least not dropping any further. I=DAYS would have to get increases sooner or later and most DAYS fans seem to be pleased so good for them. I guess its [!@#$%^&*]'s stuff that is airing now?

More people tuned in for Coop & Ava's ITL than Friday's show? I also remember that most people on this board (me included) were !@#$%^&*]ing about how boring Thursday was so I'm surprised by the 2.4 rating. Not that I'm complaining...it's nice to see GL finally rise out of it's 2.1 rut. :)

DAYS is still at a 1.7 in the demos, so are the past viewers for DAYS coming back to see Patch and Kayla? It seems DAYS is slowly going up in Women 50+ and Women 25-54 and staying stagnant in the 18-49 demos. I am just glad to see DAYS at a 2.7 and in 3rd overall; it is well deserved. I cant wait for the overall numbers, LOVE seeing ABC failing because the execs their dont seem to care about the fans. A change is needed for all 3 ABC soaps IMO.

Its sad to see ATWT so low! :( I hope GL can somehow get up to a 2.3 and stay there so hopefully it will stay on the air.

DAYS is doing good at a 2.7 with NO lead in like some other soaps. Hopefully by November Sweeps when Hoagie is in full swing DAYS can reach the 3#'s again.

Well I knew they would get 3rd but I was thinking 2.8 but 2.7 is good too. Just as long as they are up where they belong. It is going to be a slow and steady climb but I do think by the end of the summer Days will be in very good position. As always, the damn weekly 2.5 killed them. I thought Abe and Lexie on Monday might keep that number up-oh well.

Glad to see GH be one of the only ones to fall (that is what you get for continuing to kill core characters) and seeing many of the soaps go up is great.

Yay for Days. The ratings overall aren't too good.

As to the Y&R ratings, SoapNet has not hurt them that much, but there were several weeks there where they did fall or stay the same. This week I am glad to see that even they went back up.

SOAPnet is the savior and possibly finally landing point for soaps. It is a good thing, imo.

I'd love for soaps to be predominantly cable and get away from some of the broadcast network and FCC pressure.

Keep sinking, please ABCD and Brian Frons. BTW, Bri...how's that pesky HR issue over at The View?

Oh I would love to see the soaps go cable. Esp to a network like F/X. Can you imagine the type of stories we could get. I know that we would get some nudity and all, but that is not what would make it great - it would be the type of stories with realism and tough stories.

Just look at the type of stories shows like Rescue Me are doing.

I agree with your general point, but I have no interest in something comparable to Rescue Me. They just landed a whole lotta hell over a controversial rape scene that wasn't treated as such on screen. I watch AMC and have no desire to see anymore violations of women, por favor.

    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.
