Season 5 was so utterly brilliant, there are no words to express. Yes, the pace was slowed down greatly and it wasn't anymore sensationalistic for the most part, but it was brilliant with characters, and character arcs and build up (Kerry's infatuation with Nathan and Jamie for one). The stakes were risen higher than ever before, because there was finally a heavy emphasis on characterization. Now, you care enough to be truly hurt by the bad things that happen to this people. Victoria Davis is a truly love to hate bitch (though is IS hard for me too to see Daphne Zuniga as anyone else than Jo) and Milicent is just cute. I never liked Brooke more than this season, it was all just brill, brill stuff! And I loved the cliffhanger (Dan getting hit and then Who Did Lucas call?).

So I just watched the premiere and it was perfect. The show now is reaping what it saw. While I was watching the Nanny Kerry scenes, I kept thinking: "Damn, this feels like this decade's MELROSE" and I'm glad to see people agree. It was all so creepy, so naughty, so far-fetched, so wonderfully done. The show balanced the craziness with some nice romance (Peyton and Lucas), humor (Jamie dancing and everyone saying they get shivers when they speak Victoria's name), business intrigue (Victoria vs Brooke), bitchiness (Victoria again). Jamie must be the most adorable kid actor I have ever seen, with the possible exception of Camryn Grimes!!! I am really worried about Milicent because Victoria seemed like she meant her threat. And that cliffhanger! :o SO MELROSE. But in a good way. Now, if they keep the delicate character stuff of Season 5 with a little bit of the crazy MELROSE stuff balanced I will be a very happy, loyal viewer. Though, if they went Season 5 on our asses once more I wouldn't mind one little bit.

However, I will say this: When they started off with Brooke and Lucas supposedly married, I LOVED it! I actually wished Brooke was the one Lucas called, it would create so much drama. But I guess that, in the grand aspect of things, they made the best choice with Lucas and Peyton.

Loved last night's episode! It was so soapy. The scene where they're running throught the corn field was so slasher-film-esque. And then Deb smashing the Dom perion into Crazy bitch's face? :o:lol:

I agree that the last scene with Dan shooting Carrie was not necessary.

Mark Schwahn inks a trio of TV deals

'One Tree Hill' creator pacts with CBS Par, WBTV

By Nellie Andreeva

Mark Schwahn is mixing television and music with three new deals.

The "One Tree Hill" creator has inked a two-year exclusive overall deal with CBS Paramount Network TV and a pact with CBS Records to launch his own imprint.

Additionally, Schwahn has inked a one-year agreement with Warner Bros. TV, which co-produces "Hill" with Tollin/Robbins Prods., to continue as executive producer and showrunner on the CW series, a major step towards a potential seventh-season pickup for the ensemble drama.

Under the pact with CBS Par TV, which begins in June, Schwahn will develop new series projects. That is a long way from his early days as a filmmaker who never considered a career in television until he hit a brick wall trying to get a feature script made for a basketball-themed drama set in high school. Brian Robbins, Mike Tollin and Joe Davola of Tollin/Robbins -- which produced two movies penned by Schwahn, "The Perfect Score" and "Coach Carter" -- suggested he should try reworking the project as a TV series.

"The first thing out of my mouth was: 'I don't want to do TV,' " Schwahn said. "I was such a knucklehead feature writer."

He later reconsidered, and the ill-fated feature script became "One Tree Hill." Schwahn never regretted it.

"I really have embraced television," he said. "The writer has creative control in television, and it's very fulfilling to make a mini feature every nine days."

"Hill" has been creatively reinvigorated this season with the series' four-year jump into the future. And paired with "Gossip Girl," it has turned Monday into a flagship night in the ratings for the CW, making a renewal for "Hill" a no-brainer. With Schwahn on board -- CBS Par has agreed to loan him out to work on "Hill" one last season if it is renewed while developing for CBS Par -- the only hurdle is signing the cast, with talks under way to lock them in.

Schwahn said he is happy to stay at WBTV to run the show he loves, but for his future TV endeavors, he felt CBS Par was the best fit.

"Warner Bros. has been a wonderful home, but CBS Paramount embraced the entrepreneurial spirit of what I'd like to do," he said.

That entrepreneurial spirit includes venturing into the music business with his deal at CBS Records.

Music has always been close to Schwahn's heart: He was once in a band and describes himself as "a frustrated musician who wasn't good but wanted to be great."

Music has had a very strong presence on "Hill," whose episodes Schwahn names after songs. The show constantly features music and performances by artists like Gavin DeGraw, whose popularity skyrocketed after his track "I Don't Wanna Be" became the show's theme song. What's more, "Hill" has a major music-themed plotline built around Payton (Hilarie Burton), allowing the introduction of aspiring musicians as recurring characters played by up-and-coming artists like Kate Voegele and Tyler Hilton.

Schwahn said he hopes to take his support for young musical talent up another level with his CBS Records deal, working with Larry Jenkins, head of CBS Records, and Amy Osler, head of CBS Par TV's music division.

"It really comes from a pure place. I'm a fan of music, I feel I have a good ear for it and I would love to be able to help shine a light on new artists and new music even more than what I can do via 'One Tree Hill,' " he said.

Music also will continue to be a big part of Schwahn's TV projects. For instance, one of the series ideas he is looking to tackle under the CBS Par deal is set in the music industry.

Schwahn is repped by Endeavor and attorneys Jared E. Levine and Kevin Yorn.

So being a director in LA turned Dawson Leery into a cokehead, eh.

So Peyton has cancer? :o Is she going to die? :( (don't tell me if you know)

Brooke/Julian....hmmm.....I could be down for that.

So it was Sam's friend who was responsible for Brooke's beating and it was his brother who shot Quentin. I thought that was a pretty good tie-in.

Mouth is a big idiot to hang around with Gigi. He has sexy Millicent and he blows it.

Jamie was cute as usual with his piano playing and joke telling.

I was worried because GG sucked so hard last night... but OTH was firing on all cylinders! Romance... tears (how cute were those kids!)... a pregnancy... a good old fashioned ass-kickin'... and Gregory Harrison! Loved every second of it!

    • I knew you would be so excited seeing your girl Brookey as #1!!!! She also WINS as to Frequently Married!!!
    • Yes, Stacy does this both for early DAYS & early GH. I have written some for her, for DAYS. But just one tiny point & that is that she only deals with DVDs. I realize that is not the point of your posting but it seemed the right thing to clarify. I know that you know that video tapes is past, not present.
    • Hahahha I think sleeping with almost all of your daughters's boyfriends and husbands and getting pregnant... definitely gives Brooke the right to top 1 place. Long live the whore of Beverly hills.

    • CurlyQGrl has DVDs of some episodes, that they can sell, but that doesn't matter. What is helpful: they describe the scenes on the tapes, so you can read that as recaps without ordering anything. Doesn't really give storylines, though, which is what you asked for.  Here's the links anyhow. full menu https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/menu.html GH page https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/gh/menu.html GH 1960s https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/gh/eps/gheps1960s.htm
    • I would argue that Another World never played "everything" for laughs. Even when there were comedic scenes in some storylines there were other storylines that were not intended as comedy.  You give 1988 as the end point, and Mary was on the canvas from August 1986 to February 1989, so she must have overlapped with the despised laughs you are referring to at least half of the time she was there. I honestly can't recall any real comedy that Mary would have been part of. I don't think she was lighthearted about choosing between two husbands, MJ's prostitution, Kathleen's death, or even her son Scott dating her daughter Cheryl.  I would have said that the amount of comedy depended on the head writer and there was more comedy under Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin in 1984 than subsequent headwriters. I guess there was an outbreak of more comedy when Cecile kidnapped Cass from his wedding in 1986, but in general the Sin Stalker wasn't presented as funny, Mitch's return wasn't funny, John's arrival wasn't funny, Reginald wasn't funny. The tone was serious even if the plots verged on the ludicrous. And maybe that's what you mean -- but I would make a distinction between intentional comedy and storylines I can't take seriously for other reasons.
    • I'm excited for us to get back to a full weeks worth of episodes and also us beginning to move into the episodes filmed once the show premiered. We're already starting to see changes in the lighting and the way certain characters are styled. Of course we know this week we have our first recast as well. After the big Eva reveal, I hope the show continues to move into a positive direction and that we see them starting to fix some of the things we've all had issues with.
    • It seems like they may have been going in one direction for Andre and then changed their mind. He had this player/bachelor thing going at first where he was messing with Dani, seemed to be feeling Eva, and then somehow smitten by bland Ashley of all people. I feel like Ashley was supposed to be the one that finally made him want to be with someone and settle. The way he talked her up in those earlier episodes was really confusing. The wonderful, amazing nurse Ashley and conveniently she's unattainable because she has a partner, but he can't stop thinking of her and takes these busted pics of her. It was a mess. However, it all seems to have been dropped. I honestly feel like Andre can go. That may be an unpopular opinion but I don't need his breathy final syllable to be content with BTG. It's always like "There's gotta be another wh-ahyy"
    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
