I was raped the same year, just a few months before Laura was raped, so I was never willing to watch much of that storyline. I know the rape scenes have been posted before, but I could never make myself watch the rape clips.
This was better to watch. Emily did great as Jessie there. I started watching Jessie Brewer in 1969, so her blue sweater is a comfort, and I would have been reassured if she'd been my nurse. I know I've not seen these scenes before.
My god, I had been hanging out at the campus disco in my town, competing in disco dance competitions, and working two jobs. (I didn't work at the disco, just danced there.) I didn't have a ride home from the office, so I got a ride from strangers who both raped me.
Thank god I got a compassionate cop when I called 911 from a nearby phone. I still remember him to this day. I went to the campus hospital. All I remember is telling the story over and over to the hospital staff and the police for what seemed like hours, for all their official reports. The hospital staff was appropriately respectful. But there was no Jessie Brewer there for me.
My rapists were arrested but had fake alibis from their families, and didn't go to to jail. I still remember their faces. At least they didn't bring me flowers.
