Been lurking for a while due to life being busy and all… and I have to say that a lot of the vitriol being directed at Kat on here borders almost on the irrational sometimes - it’s actually really uncomfortable to read! Yes, we all have our individual tastes, but y’all be treating her like she’s some irredeemable super villain when she’s nothing but - WTAF is with that?

MVJ definitely needs to slow down with her unwarranted fascination with Jon Lindstrom - the character is awfully written, but there is nothing interesting about Lindstrom’s performance either. Frankly

There's only a small faction here that's anti-Kat.

Many of us like Kat a lot. We know her flaws but also understand her viewpoint.

I've always been #TeamKat.

I like both Eva and Kat. I never hated either one. I do however agree that the show being determined to make Eva an antiheroine is a problem. She should be somewhere between an antiheroine and a villain. Iziah is firmly presented as in between and that's why they totally make sense as a couple.

Matter of fact I might make a list categorizing which characters should be in which moral alignment. And no I don't play Dungeons & Dragons.

This was a strong week! I feel confident in feeling as if they've hit their stride and we will ride out the year successfully. Thinking back to things like Winterfest, I was worried the cotillion and tornado would be quickly forgotten but the've done a good job of making both events count.

Focusing on the tornado, I thought this entire week was strong. I love how complicated the Kat and Eva relationship is and I enjoyed the stress about the donor. This reminds me of the type of soap relationships that were the norm in the past but we rarely see today. I thought the way the majority of the family treated Kat was insane. They didn't give her any opportunity to think through what happened before demanding she donate her liver. I even feel like they glossed over the fact that she went through something traumatic herself.

The one thing that would've made this week better for me is if after all of this, Kat wasn't a match. That would've been such a strong friday cliffhanger!

Looking forward to the next few months, I'm curious where they take Leslie and Eva from here. I feel like this would be the perfect opportunity to do a pivot with Leslie. Even the best villains can't always antagonize everyone. I'd like to see her slow down and show real appreciation for Kat. Even better would be if Kat ended up in some mess and Leslie bailed her out. They could also focus on a romance for her instead of just tormenting the Dupree nonstop. Now I'm not saying everybody forgives her and becomes her friend, but a ceasefire has been earned.

In regards to Eva, I think her character was one that got affected after the change in direction on some of the stories. Eva/Tomas/Kat was slowly building for 140 episodes to where Eva and Tomas hook up, Kat discovers them together as she comes to extend an olive branch, and Tomas opts for Kat over Eva with Eva vowing to fight for him.

After Guza leaves, the direction for Eva's character shifts and she's paired with Izaiah. The two have chemistry, but they have little development nor any huge obstacles. Darlene is a promising obstacle plus Darlene vs Leslie is promising...but the whole story has been treated like a C level story.

Still...it at least has some focus unlike Chelsea and her arcs. It would be wise of the show to cut her loose..or even cut loose Tyrell/Samantha..and replace them with Donnell and Deanna...that way Vanessa can be given layers again as she tries to parent..and maybe lure the actor that plays Doug back for some flashback episodes showing him with Vanessa and with the twins during happier times.

Izaiah is a philosophy teacher, he loves philosophizing (Jacob's words) but he believes in God and he prays. I'm not saying the two things can't coexist but the character was supposedly also a hot-head in the past and he's learned how to cook from a random mobster who was his mentor (in what?), not from his mother who makes a delicious chocolate cake. It's a mess.

Sorry but I'm not here for AJ's sultry Heather. The character is already too cartoonish and I was getting weird incest vibes with her brother Joey. It doesn't help that she and Vanessa are both blondies. AJ should have died her hair brown again, since Joey is salt and pepper but still dark. The blonde has never suited her.

That was John F. Smith.

I've concluded that once it was decided that the show would be one hour long they had to come up with extra characters and that's why we've been saddled with Chelsea and a bunch of other non-entities.

As for Kat, ITA with you and I also think it was just by mistake that she became the best written character. I think they just poured a bunch of flaws into her to prop Eva but the audience wants precisely flaws and Colby made it work wonderfully.

Eva started really strong but once the anniversary reveal happened, they did not know what to do with her to salvage her as a heroine (!). Plus working so closely with TMG affected Ambyr's acting as she began picking up new tics...

I have to be honest, I don't see what's so Bill Bell about Hayley. She's such a sloppy, after-thought character. They're visibly making up her backstory as they go, as they don't know what makes her thick or what her vulnerability is. She's too two-dimensional to be a BB character IMHO

Andre should have an ex-lover show up in town with his 4 or 5 year old son in tow. See how Dani reacts to Andre with his ex. Plus, it would revisit the conversation Dani had with Andre about how she couldn't provide a family for him and then poof he could have an instant family if he got back together with his ex.

Andre's time away from Fairmont Crest as a globe-trotting photographer is waiting to be explored.

The show has been popping Eva nonstop to the point that it diluted the character and made Kat stand out. As someone else mentioned, Kat is the one with a pulse. She makes things happen --- good or bad, and is allowed to be something other than nauseatingly "Dupree Strong." There was no need to turbocharge Eva's redemption arc and have everyone be so accepting. Do these writers get nuance? Everything is so binary. Good or bad. Black or white. Kat gets to live in messy colors. The writers have never shown why Martin has so much contempt for his baby sister. It's like he accepted Eva out of spite.

Kat is one of the characters they actually get right on this show because she gets to be human and all that comes with that. And they only got it right by accident.

I also wish the match were Laura.
