They explained the break-up of Noah and Aliie with a throw-away line with no details. And Y&R has had so many returns from the dead, they don't even bother to explain it anymore. I don't remember any existing characters even mentioning or questioning Matt's being formerly dead. He's just back, so on with the story -- if one can call this a story...

When Diane came back from the dead, IIRC all they did was make same vague references to her "paying people off," no attempt to explain that we saw her dead body onscreen. For Claire/Eve we also got one line about how Jordan snuck into the hospital and switched.

And this time they don't even bother at all.

They did have some throwaway line that "Matt doesn't look like he did 30 years ago," which I guess accounts for the Cibrian version having plastic surgery?

It's so mind-numbingly dumb.

The writing for Noah and Allie implied they drifted apart and were together relatively recently... that he had cheated on her with Sienna.Truly no need to mine that "drama" with just a few lines indicating some emotional event that never actually happened. Same as with the entire Audra/Noah relationship and miscarriage. 🙄

I'm ditching Y&R for daily recaps. The only current highlights for me.

1. The chemistry between CK/BF is amazing. I loathed Lane back in the day, but this works.

2. Anything Audra, particularly with Noah.

3. Lauren/Phyllis, but those scenes feel like monthly one-offs

4. Lily reading Nikki, Victoria and Billy re: Chancellor - again one-offs.

The absolute fails.

1. Victor playing Professor Higgins with Matt.

2. Nikki's illness

3. Sally's pregnancy - worse Chadam talking about it

4. Patty mess. Worse anyone believing Diane wouldn't have slit that shrink's throat with the letter opener. Please.

5. Devon's mean streak. Worse than ever and it makes no sense.

6. Mariah being off-screen / Abruptly ending Daniel/Tessa, who should've gotten pregnant after NYE link. This would've given Tessiah a lot of material to mine if they ever decide to bring CG back.

7. Noah/Sienna - at least Shick are allowed to give the side-eye.

That's simply not enough to waste 36 minutes.

Nailed it. I have to move to daily recaps, too. When a show literally makes me angry while I watch it, it's time for a time out.

I can't believe what I'm watching. I can't believe what they're giving us.

Ratings are good, especially in relation to other soaps and all of daytime, which means we're not going to get change. It's a shame, though, because I think the ratings would be much better if the show were any good, and that would carry over to B&B and BTG.

The only story I care about is Cane& Lily. That's it. Nothing else works or makes sense.

20 years ago, Eric Braeden would never have put up with this shlt writing. He would have mouthed off. Sadly, those days are gone.

EB stopped commenting on the show's writing years ago. I think he's given it up and is just happy to have a place to spend a few hours. Maybe he thinks it's not worth the time and effort.

10 or 20 years ago there seemed to have been more friction between actors and writers... actors would complain about the writing, and then contract negotiations would come up, and production would try to cut their pay, and the actors would threaten to walk, and the character might even leave town for a while during negotiations... and now no one seems to care. I don't know if it's either the actors are just accepting the cuts (clearly a lot of them have accepted a shockingly low guarantee, but maybe not the likes of EB) or if TPTB don't threaten cuts to the big stars anymore because they realize Victor, Jack, and Nikki are the only reason anyone watches the show (it's certainly not for the writing or sets and they are happy to cut the budget there).

I remember Amelia Heinle talking about during the Aunt Jordan nonsense they were all trying not to laugh during the poisoned water bit and EB turned to her and said "this is either going to be really good or total crap" so it's not like he doesn't have opinions. It's just everything with this show works off inertia, from the top down.

It's kind of funny how soap fans used to complain about a lack of vets and too much focus on young people, and now the only ones with consistent story are the 80+ group, lol.

Sometimes when I’m watching this show I feel like I can feel what Eric Braeden is probably thinking when he has to say certain lines. He knows it’s utter crap.

Random thought - but your comment about actors threatening to leave because of contract negotiations made me think of Sharon Case leaving in 2003. Remember she was written off for a few months and her return led to a lot of good story for her character but I wonder what all that was really about behind the scenes.

BITD I lived for EB's rants to the soap press and on social media. He always kept it way too real.

Matt is Phil Dunphy now. An explanation about about his death and missing years is the least of this story's problems.

Obviously, Josh Griffith has never met anyone who has survived a sexual assault; because, if he had, we wouldn't be forced to watch him and try and redeem a creep like Matt Clark just to give Roger Howarth a few more paychecks. I'm really trying these days to see everything more from the TPTB's POV, but everything about this story is just offensive. Somebody needs to be fired for this, and yesterday.

Bill Bell would never.

I know Michael Baldwin got redeemed but he served his time and got redeemed slowly and gradually. The only negative about Michael Baldwin redemption was being put in Christine's orbit romantically but that was Jack Smith's doing and not Bill Bell's.

So Matt wants to ask Phyllis on a date now? Are we really going there? This is one time I would honestly be fine with giving Matt Clark a twin or something if they really wanna keep this actor around.. cause what do you MEAN this guy is even being considered as a potential love interest for Phyllis? Just disgusting and don’t even care much for Phyllis but this would be low even for her.

They might be going there with Matt and Phyllis, I don't know. If they do, it would because Howarth and Stafford played characters who were close friends on GH (Nina and Franco) -- I don't remember if it was romantic or just buddies, but they were partners in capers, etc.

I will speculate (guessing only) that one or both of them wanted to work together again. Or perhaps JG heard about it and figured it would be easy to throw their characters together (even if it doesn't make sense).

It's so offensive. When Stafford was away from Y&R for a few years playing Nina with Franco on GH, meanwhile Gina Tognoni was on Y&R as Phyllis. Gina's Phyllis was raped repeatedly over time due to an imposter being in her bed (a Jack lookalike that Victor arranged). She even testified in court against Victor and the violations he engineered.

There's no way that Gina's Phyllis would date a rapist now, not even a supposedly amnesiac rapist.

Just because Stafford wasn't Phyllis when that storyline played out, there's no excuse. Griffith should absolutely refuse to pair any version of Phyllis with any rapist.

AND of course nobody should be paired with a known rapist.
