Would Miguel on GH qualify? I think he technically lasted over a year but was off-screen for months before he came back for his exit IIRC.

Maybe? I wouldn't count him though. I don't think there was much hype for him tbh even with the Menudo fame. Ricky asked to leave to do Broadway, so it's not like the show dumped him.

I would put him in the same category as Lily. Not very popular characters that reached their conclusion.

But I will never understand killing Emily off -- only to bring NL back a year later.

It had to do with backlash over killing her. I have always believed Rebecca Shaw was in fact a brainwashed Emily. I still do. If they ever brought Emily back (with whatever actress) that's how I'd do it. Simple.

Tamara Braun was clearly so proud with the story she was sold to get her onto AMC as Reese - yet in no time at all, they went from a passionate love story with Bianca to Reese trying to get dicked down by Zach the lesbian converter.

Tamara left as soon as she could, IIRC.

She did, and it drove Eden from the show as well til Prospect Park.

We've been over this one before not long ago so I'll just say again I think there was a germ of a scandalous and soapy story there, even with the Zach angle. It was all very The Kids Are All Right. It was just done so poorly, rushed and slapdash because Pratt and Frons had zero actual investment in Bianca or in the potential lesbian supercouple pairing they had heavily promoted. It was all just a delivery system for Pratt's great hopes for Reese the bisexual vixen (which he talked up after the fact). That was what was so awful.

The character never went anywhere. I would say you may as well count him as he was even talked about in an SOD article at the time of fizzled characters - Riche or Labine claimed he had a strong entrance and then they didn't know what to do with him until the time of the article (I think this was when he was sleeping with Brenda).

I wouldn't say he had a strong entrance either. He was a hospital orderly, a bartender, then a singer. Idk, they seem to just want to put Miguel in different places for no reason (except the singing). It was clear when he started with L&B that there was going to be a triangle with Brenda/Sonny/Miguel. Then the show backed off and said Miguel had a long lost love that looked like Brenda. Idk, once everything fell apart and Brenda/Miguel were together you probably could have used him through Lily's death. At the end of the day Jax turned out to be the much better option so all's well that ends well.

I have been rewatching the late '94 stuff recently and they were clearly planning far ahead. Brenda was already jealous of Lily hanging off Sonny at this early juncture, and S&B and Miguel/Lily were very solid by this time.

I think they were never going to have Ricky for long, even if they'd figured out what to do with him. He was still a big star outside the States, and of course he blew up huge here not long after. He's a sweet and very handsome man but bless him, he was never much of an actor. You know it's rough when Lilly Melgar is keeping some scenes afloat.

Marcy Walker as Tangie Hill on Guiding Light- Was brought over by JFP after Kim Zimmer left but they had no idea what to do with the character. They tried pairing her with a few different actors without any success.

I shouldn't keep picking on AMC, but this one was notorious at the time.

I loved her on All My Children and it is a damn shame what they did to Reese. And now, they're doing it at The Young and the Restless with their one lesbian pair.

Yeah, I don't see much long term potential for Miguel after Lily dies, which I can see the argument to at least keep him on canvas until then, but Riche was very good to him and let him go do his thing instead.

I am not excusing Ricky's acting. It's horrible, but I do think he said he wasn't terribly comfortable acting in English yet. Clearly he was very fluent although I think he said he had trouble picking up some nuances in scripts. And let's be real. All jokes aside he probably had the most chemistry fighting with Mo in Spanish lol.

Sebastian Hulce

We were so excited to have Roger Thorpes absence (and MZs passing) addressed but he and his storyline fizzled out like a lot of David Kreizmans stories.

It was a couple years after Zimmer left. But Marcy Walker felt used by JFP after the fact, and Tangie was a pretty big miss by that talented writing team. But by then Jill was very much interfering with the writing.

My favorite thing about Miranda at GH was that her entire Cassadine backstory that was supposed to be revealed over the course of a storyline got ported over to Alexis. Bob Guza was rehired, he and the writing team started reworking the show with him uncredited, and that entire story was told to Alexis in one episode by Luke.

Whoever said they should have been screen testing Mirandas with Vanessa was right! Had they found someone that could shine and stand up to her and be noticed next to her, the role might have had real legs.

I did lol. I don't think Horan and Ingo had much chemistry, but Brenda would even get the best lines in scenes and Miranda would look sad. I remember Brenda was mocking the love letters that Jax sent Miranda years ago and said enjoy sleeping with those letters while I enjoy sleeping with him and Miranda just cried. Give the girl a comeback line at least lol.

The whole thing was probably slanted against her at that point. But even Lily got better disses in. I did think Leslie Horan sort of sparked with MB in their scenes as weird as that sounds. I don't know the show needed to pick a road with the character. Mac? Jax? Cassadine relationship? Sonny/Brenda/Jax quad? Everything was all over the place and she then left town never to be heard from again.

Frankly, I was too creeped out by Doug Hutchison's presence to invest much in Sebastian.

Alex North (2005 to 2006) - Not sure why the show didn't fire Josh Taylor and have Wayne Northrop reprise that role instead of creating a one note character for the actor to play.

Kin Shriner to Texas. One of daytime's hottest hunks paid 6 figures to get GH viewers to switch over.

Except he was hired w/o a character or a story. He played out the 1 year contract, took the money and headed back to GH.

He said most of his fan mail was along the lines of 'Scotty, when are you coming back to GH?'
