I hate the DiMeras.  I don't want them on the show.  Every few years, one of them can drop in for a villain arc, but otherwise, I don't want them at all.
(I consider Chad and Theo to be non-DiMeras, regardless of their genome.  I hope Theo renounces his DiMera ancestry eventually ).

The DiMeras deserve to have just as much a place on the show as the Bradys and anyone other family that came after, but I do believe the show relies on them way too much, telling the same kind of merry-go-round stories time and again. Kristen, in particular, is beyond tired, and though Stacy Haiduk has her moments where she absolutely shines, like in the breakdown scene in her jail cell, the truth of the matter for me is that Kristen and Susan should have never been recast in the first place. And if Kristen must be a regular presence, the most important thing they must do is finally have her move on from Brady, who she has been obsessed with for 12-13 YEARS now! Even Stefano moved on from Marlena after a handful of years.

I like Tony as the elder statesman DiMera, but they need him more involved with his peers, and Anna, too. In fact, Anna running the Bistro could be a good move.

Lately I’ve been thinking about how Days defines itself—especially now that it’s sixty. Characters like Dr. Rolf may not be critic darlings, but he represents something central to the show’s DNA: the blend of human drama with absurdism. To insist Days is purely about the Horton family or small-town romance feels historically inaccurate. The sci-fi, crime, and cloning chaos has been present for decades. Long before the possession

Gotta disagree. The possession is what turned Days into an unserious circus. Sure, it got eyeballs, but it also eroded the show's basis in reality. The car wreck effect. And in the long run, those viewers only stayed to see how stupid things could get. But that was never sustainable, and people drifted away.

The flashbacks shown told me the exact opposite. Early Days WAS more like AMC, small town families with relationship/moral dramas and crises, not riffing on The Exorcist

The one reason I was fine with James Reilly getting his own show full of schlock was the fact that he couldn't shred every last vestige of Days' roots. And it showed schlock only went so far. Passions, which WAS complete absurdity, obviously couldn't sustain itself with almost zero reality.

As for the DiMeras, they worked fine when they would come to town, cause drama/trouble, then split. But trying to integrate them as a core family is ridiculous. Ship them all the hell out, then create a new villain - who won't become part of Salem society.

I have never been able to take the DiMeras seriously as a family with a regular company in town, having board meetings, etc. This is the DiMeras! It was fine when they were the weird gothic clan up to skullduggery, but treating them like normies doesn't work.

And neither does the Kristen recast, even if Haiduk is a fine actress. She would never be this passive or allowed to just hang around.

With the real Tony I loved his initial run in the 2000s, because I'd liked Thaao's other work and I loved the glimpses of the once-heroic Tony I'd seen from the '80s. But Thaao plays them almost indistinguishable now and it's clear they either want to bring Andre back for the 12th time or turn him back into Andre by another name again, so I lost all interest in Thaao some years ago sadly. They don't do anything with him they've not done for 30+ years.

The Salem Slasher in 83 was the turning point -the first use of masks that transformed entire body shapes and then we went to super villians, spies, multiple back from the dead etc

Reilly's run was just the next step.

Yeah, the Dimeras to me are what the Cassadines are to GH. That gothic clan that should always be powerful or have some edge to them. However, that kinda of clan does not seem to be sustainable. At least not without either good writing or without a constant writing regime change.

People complain about a sameness of the soaps, soaps, as opposed to having their own identity and feel.  Days made its own identity in the 90s with the absurd stuff.  Its not everyone's cup of tea but it gave people who found shows like AMC or ATWT dull, an alternative.  Just like how Edge and its crime plots were an alternative in its day.  Personally, I agree that Days can be cringe at times-- I stopped watching until "The Writer" left, but with the right balance it could work.

Days doesn't have to be AMC and shouldn't, it should have its own identity.

I wouldn't call AMC very staid in that timeframe. They just weren't good at making that type of material work for their audience.

Today was a bit of a mixed bag. Not much happened.

And somebody really should have told us where Will, Paul and Andrew went.

But I'm glad that we got some follow-up with Marlena. And despite some missteps in her storyline, especially in the beginning, I'm still curious and interested in seeing whatever's going on with her. I enjoy scenes of her and Sarah together. But I don't think she has Lyme disease though.

And once again, Belle was a bit of a dick. But for once, it actually seemed to work. I wouldn't mind her taking on EJ and the hospital if it turns out that they were negligent in diagnosing Marlena's illness. But her, Eric and Roman's scenes at Marlena's bedside were really nice.

Javi pointing out that Gabi has a reason for kidnapping Tony seemed like filler though. I don't think she had anything to do with it.

And yeah, Al is still not a good crier 😂

And as for Tony and Kristen, their scenes were kinda played too jokingly for me, which I didn't think was the right move. There almost seemed to be a little bit of Susan in Kristen's performance today, which was the wrong choice by Stacy Haiduk.  I still think Kristen/Susan/Stacy Haiduk is played out though. Once this is all resolved, send her and her awful kid back to Aremid or something. And based on Tony and Kristen's final scenes, I guess we now know what was in the box at the hospital.

I'm still dreading what would've happened in 2023 had Zach stayed.
