It's been said before, but I think it bears repeating: most younger viewers don't necessarily watch soaps (or didn't, in years past) for the teens and young adults.  It's nice that they're there, if only because so much of storytelling is built upon generational conflicts.  At the end of the day, however, younger viewers tune in, because they like the older characters more, and they use them as models for how they'll live their own lives as they grow older.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this but almost every episode of GH in which she appears I think to myself “Jane Elliot is *so* beautiful”.

And don’t even get me STARTED on Clifton Davis’ 80 year old fine ahh.

I am constantly amazed when I see KKL rock a sexy outfit in her mid-60s. She truly puts 30-year-olds in her back pocket. It's incredibly inspiring to witness people who are decades older than me still looking as hot as ever. It motivates me to be like them when I reach that age. So absolutely... creating a character for a 66-year-old actress... particularly one as fabulous and talented as VR is not just possible, but a must.

I completely agree. In the end... what would a great soap be without its matriarch and patriarch? These women and men have at times carried their shows through countless storylines. Their ability to endure the daily grind of a soap opera at their age is nothing short of inspirational.

BITD the likes of Phoebe Tyler and Kay Chancellor were  popular with younger viewers because they liked to see older character called out for their foolish behaviour and hyprocrisy.

Conversely they liked Kate Martin and Alice Horton, the ideal grandmothers.

And they certainly related to the younger characters who were either counselled or manipulated by the older generation.

Nora and Viki were my favorites as a kid on OLTL, along with Marty who was younger and closer to what I was going through. At GH it was Bobbie in and of herself, then Luke, Laura and Lucky followed by Robin. At AMC it was Dimitri and Erica, Edmund and Maria. DOOL, Bo and Billie, then Carrie. It's always been about that mix when young people watch.

Phyllis sunk to new levels of delusion today with her childish rants.

If the idea was that were to feel some empathy for her as she gazed forlornly at the happy partygoers, it was a failure.

As for the GCAC being booked out-why?

Danny had Michael, Devon, Jack as guests with Nate crashing.

Christine had Lauren, Diane, Traci with Victoria joining them.

Hardly a reason to book out the entire venue. Maybe just reserve a table or two.

I just want to see Phyllis win once.  She needs just to have the one great victory.  She can celebrate the win, but then everything comes down crashing.  She just needs that one win.

Phyllis was embarrassing. Why go back to this insane jealousy at Christine when she's been so wrapped up with Cane and Billy for weeks and weeks?

It came off as a standalone episode there was no reason to watch.

I think they wrote the GCAC as booked out so they could avoid paying extras.

Why does that wench need a win? Phyllis is one character that needs to go and she can take her son with her.

Yeah, I don't care about her winning either. Why should I? She's become ridiculous x 10.

Yeah The bigger question is when will Phyllis  actually lose it all?? That type of behavior shouldn’t get rewarded yet somehow with her it will.

My thoughts exactly. There seems to be no direction at all (with any storyline really) but especially with Phyllis. I don’t need Phyllis to be written off, but I just need her to be isolated to ONE storyline instead of like 3 at once. They want Phyllis everywhere, in everyone’s business at all times and it’s annoying. They do the same with Victors character and I hate it.
