Though CBS remains mum on the reason for the upcoming week of scheduled repeats, and has never formally addressed the last-minute decision to air a rerun on Memorial Day, “Beyond the Gates” creator, head writer and showrunner Michele Val Jean has taken to social media to thank fans for their passion for the show.

“To those asking: preemption-rerun  decisions are made way above my pay grade so no insight into that,” noted Val Jean, who is also an executive producer, in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “The good news is the upcoming reruns are premiere week so those of you who missed it can catch up with how it all began.”

In a follow-up post on Saturday, Val Jean said, “Just want to say to our #BeyondTheGates peeps, I love your passion for the show. And I thank you for it.”

On Friday, it was announced that during the week of June 30-July 4, 2025, CBS would rebroadcast the first five episodes of “Beyond the Gates,” each of which was scripted and outlined by Val Jean, marking the first time the individual episodes will have been rebroadcast on CBS, excluding encores aired on BET in March.

Last month, Canadian network CHCH suddenly began airing episodes of the daytime drama series ahead of its U.S. broadcast due to CBS airing a rerun on Memorial Day, despite the network airing originals of its other soaps.

In response to a viewer who complained about the shift at the time, Val Jean commented, “I hate this too.” She added, “It really screws with the way we construct reveals if one batch of viewers is ahead of the rest. Very frustrating.”

After 18 episodes, the day ahead issue was seemingly resolved earlier this month when CHCH finally synced back up with the show’s U.S. broadcast on June 19, better known as the Juneteenth federal holiday in the U.S. A representative for the Canadian broadcaster did not respond to a request for comment from Soap Opera Network.

In addition to episodes airing on CBS and later available to stream on Paramount+ and CBS TVE (CBS.com and CBS App), the Pluto TV FAST Channel for “Beyond the Gates” has also recently returned, giving potential viewers even more opportunities to catch up with what they missed.

As of the Friday, June 27 episode, “Beyond the Gates” has aired 83 episodes since it premiered on February 24.

In a recently released trailer touting the show’s critical acclaim, CBS highlights what’s been going on with the show’s characters using quotes from major media outlets like USA Today, Entertainment Weekly and The Washington Post in the hopes to entice new viewers to tune in to all the drama happening in the fictional Fairmont Crest using references said by the show’s matriarch Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie).

While “Beyond the Gates” will be airing encores next week, “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” are both set to air all-new episodes, including on the Independence Day holiday (Friday, July 4).

Michele is playing nice. I guess she got the memo.😂

There was nothing wrong with her original tweet.
I don't think she's pretending to be nice in the followup tweet.  I think she's sincerely grateful that the fans care enough to tweet passionately about the show.

I think they were referring a tweet or Instagram post from earlier this week - something about "it's called long story for a reason..."

All of this could be resolved if CBS spoke on these sudden decisions to air reruns last minute instead of an original episode.

Is this due to the original 200 episode pick up for season 1 so there will be more reruns?  Or is it due to lower than expected ratings/demos so the network is opting to air a rerun on a holiday and/or holiday week?

I kind of wish they would do what other soaps have done in the past where the holiday episode would be a recap of a major story (i.e. two characters talking about the story with flashbacks shown), or do a week of interviews with the cast updating everyone on how things are going backstage.

I'm curious on how many episodes were included in the season 2 pick-up... is it another 200 episodes, or is it closer to 250 episodes?

I find the whole season thing to be so confusing. I know they do a primetime schedule where its roughly September-August for a season but we know their initial studio contract was through August 2025 which would've given them episodes through December. So either they always had a two season pickup and it just wasn't announced or they were off schedule.

But as you said, this could all be resolved if they said something. Just randomly dropping a week is going to cause a stir since people are invested in the show.

She said that 2 years ago, as well, about the Bill/Sheila story on BOLD, it was getting backlash and she came on Twitter and said "it's a long story for a reason" when it was obvious they were pulling it out of their arses as they went along given Don Diamont said he had to find a way to "make it work"

I do admit that I wonder if it's a money saving technique, but again...Y&R and B&B aren't be on vaca during the holiday week so...

REMINDER:

The decision to air repeats was CBS'. No one from Beyond the Gates was aware of the schedule change until afterward.

But doesn’t Sheila Ducksworth work for CBS? She’s an EP at BTG.

Ducksworth's technical title is president of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture.

She runs the CBS/NAACP Production Venture, which isn't necessarily a real studio. It's more of a liaison-type role, at least that's how I understand it.

CBS Studios and NAACP produce Beyond the Gates with Procter & Gamble Studios. There's no single studio/production company called CBS/NAACP Production Venture.

That said, schedule decisions are made at the network level. Not the studio.

That's true. I don't remember that, but I remember the story. I hope that with her own show, she is more focused on a particular end point. It seems like she started with a solid bible, so there's that. My fear is whether or not she will be willing to pivot on stories that she already planned that are failing or unpopular (looking at you, Ashley).

So, she's kind of like the folks that were liaisons between P&G and CBS back in the day for ATWT and GL, before they eliminated that position? And, I'm also assuming NBC and ABC had similar liaisons between them and P&G for their P&G soaps in the 60s - 90s?
