The one downside of BTG is seeing Calivati’s name in the writing credits right after openly mocking Days fans about the backlash to his Body & Soul story. Even if he’s just a sub or script writer for BTG I think he deserves the unemployment line.

Not to mention Jamey Giddens. They will always be a cloud over that show for me, such toxicity rewarded.

Him moving to Y&R so swiftly feels like Sony knew they couldn’t afford to keep him at DOOL but didn’t want to lose him to the other shows and plopped him over.

I could believe that. I have seen some claims this is like when Laura Wright left GL for GH, but Carly was a very sure character (even if the actress before Wright had not lasted long). Going to Y&R for a role that may not last even the lifespan of DAYS (even if DAYS just has a year or two left) isn't exactly the same.

Yeah, for sure.

It's also part of the reason I believe if he had it his way Summer would have been Jack's daughter. Every run he has, he has been about his Abbotts and their stories...good and bad...do get their beats played. Makes me wonder if Billy will turn out to be a recast Theo and it's not a new character. Or a new character connected to the Abbotts somehow.

Indeed. And as we recently mentioned he ax Daniel Goddard, eliminate the Rosales clan, and has at least written consistently decent stories for the Abbott clan. In other words JG’s 3rd run good stuff is probably equivalent to how many times a year a broken clock is right LOL.

I rolled my eyes at that news too. Granted I understand Carlivati & Giddens aren’t in control of things, but heck James Harmon Brown and Barbara Esensten did significant damage as script writers to Days itself in Sprint 2007 before going to cause trouble for AMC later that year before the writers strike.

Y&R is currently set to last through 2028 on CBS. B&B is currently up for renewal, probably could have been cancelled last year but CBS allowed a one year option.

Oh?

I’m not still sure what happened with to the moment is JG’s 2013 run. Cold feet? Sony and JFP interference?

(Although JFP was the one who fired Stafford 🤣🤣🤣 Obviously there wasn’t any pushback from anyone. JG is rehiring Stafford was the dumbest move….)

Theo was such an interesting character. The actor had instant chemistry with Courtney Hope as Sally but was dropped for who knows why. I still think Theo could have been viable long term if written properly.

I think Sony clearly wants to keep him in the family any way they can but not lose him to GH. Which can absolutely happen, and under a better regime I'd welcome it.

Perhaps.

He was. And I liked the actor (but I remember him from them Lifetime movies. hehe) I was looking forward to him mixing it up with the Abbotts. He really could have been used better.

^ That wasn't Griffith at DAYS writing that.  That was Carlivati.

-------------------

This was Griffith at DAYS:

I meant the first one, in 2016.

The aftermath of the Necktie Killer, when she set Ben on fire and had to be committed. But then escaped and “died” in a plane crash.

If they need budget cuts, I could give them about 5-10 names right off the bat.

The Y&R trifecta of Greg Rikaart, Emily O’Brien and Stacy Haiduk, for example 😂

Sorry, I didn't mean Y&R would be canceled, I meant I don't know if his part on the show will last longer than a year, maybe a year and a half. Most don't for new high-profile hires.

I wonder if the recent deaths of beloved actors have made DAYS's money woes worse? I can't imagine doing these tribute episodes have been cheap.

But it is a tenured actor leaving a long-time home to join a competition soap on a different network. I think that's where the Wright vs. Flynn comparison is coming from.

Flynn's exit is just one of several recent changes behind the scenes at DAYS, with more to come. I'm hearing things aren't great from a financial perspective at the show.

While that's alarming to hear, I hope they cut the correct dead weight.

Meanwhile, I wonder if they'd ever bring DAYS back to NBC.

It is a damn shame to lose him. I can't tell if he was fired or quit, but either way I'll miss him. He's a grounding presence and even though his last name is DiMera, he's blended into the Hortons seamlessly. However, this does not deter me from being excited for the new writers, helped by the fact he'll be around nearly a year from now.

That was my initial thought too. He was the nice DiMera that fit in well with the Hortons (practically Julie's BFF). Everyone else in the house of DiMera are carbon copies.

I got the sense it was more implying Flynn knows DAYS is almost done and is moving elsewhere, as Wright did. So that's where I think if he was, I wish he'd gotten a role that will likely last a year and change at most given Y&R's path with new hires.

I think Flynn is going where he likely feels he has a viable chance, especially given his history with Josh Griffith. Whether we liked Griffith's tenure at DAYS (2015–2016), he, along with Dena Higley & Beth Milstein, gave Flynn some meaty material for him to sink his teeth into.

I hope it works out better than most of Griffith's choices have, as Flynn would be an asset to Y&R.

Let's face it, in recent years, DAYS has been hit and miss with Billy Flynn. He's had some good periods and good material, but he's also had LONG periods of next to nothing. I don't blame him at all for leaving.

He is an asset to any soap opera he's on. He really is a solid actor.

I don't blame him for jumping ship, either. I'm surprised he didn't jump before now or that he we went back in once he was out.
