Very much so. It was nice to see how Bill/Dani were. And a nice contrast to Bill/Hayley.

I expected it re: Andre/Dani. But so immediately? YES, PLEASE. They were a highlight last week...r&b music and all.

Are Andre/Dani supposed to be off the charts heat generating couple?

It will likely drop with the promotion wearing off and people going back to normal viewing habits. But as long as it does better than The Talk, continues to out-rate GH (or remain very competitive with GH), it should be fine and a very good sign.

I agree about the livestream not changing anything, but without it, there was no need for a press conference -- which the show clearly wanted. It is silly that no one was really interrogated let alone arrested LOL

LOL He did. Every time he says "Duprees" he does it with dripping contempt in his  voice.

I found it ridiculous that NONE of the people at the wedding called 911. Dani was waving a gun and shot it. You'd think somone would get ambulance there ASAP in case someone got hurt

There's so much to keep up with in this topic!

I live and breathe soaps. Grew up watching them and have never stopped. At least not completely. (I even self-publish my own soapy novel series). Shows have been yawns at times so I've tuned out here and there, but I will never give up completely. I have been as anxious for BTG as anyone.

I'm loving this show so far. Do I love everything? No. However, there are far more pluses than minuses. I personally love the camp. I mean, Melrose Place is my fave nighttime show ever! (AW, my daytime show). I'll live with the camp because at least stuff is happening and it's entertaining. I'm so bored with Y&R and B&B where they have the same conversation for a week just worded differently each of the fifty times they have it.

There are definitely characters I'm more interested in following (Leslie/Dana, Eva, Nicole, Andre, Naomi), but there aren't any I don't want to see. Maybe because they are still new and it'll take time. I'm willing to give it that to find its footing.

I haven't been this anxious to watch a daily soap in years. It's a great feeling. I'm willing to look over some of the smaller issues because we have a new soap! Let's focus on that.

So great the numbers were good for BTG. Personally, I was hoping it would knock Y&R off its pedestal, but I know that was too much to ask for. LOL. I hope we get streaming numbers soon because I have a feeling it did even better with streaming.

I agree it's hard to dislike Hayley even though on paper one probably should. But Marquita Goings is a find. So are Leslie/Dana and Eva. New daytime talent that will hopefully stick around and I've been a fan of Daphnee (Nicole) since OLTL. Excited to see her thrive here.

So much talent behind the scenes. MVJ, Guza, Carruthers, for examples. I just hope there aren't too many cooks in the kitchen and it gels without egos clashing.

2nd week in. Let's hope for 200 more.

Same. And goodness knows they would have both been good and messy. lol.

Mmmmm probably not, but I like them all the same. Though I was hoping Dani would loop back once Andre/Ashley/Derek were off and running. I'll take it. A carefree (but understanding of each other) no strings attached couple? One that might be there for each other or just a safe space. I'm down for it. They do exist in real life. Or did. Clearly I can relate. hehe.

Happy to hear the ratings went up across the board for CBS daytime. That, on top of beating timeslot competitor, must be a win.

Today's episode worked really well. I've given Kara Mosely and the writing some grief for Dani's actions in the first few episodes, but today Dani worked for me. When Dani showed up at the presser, I assumed we were in for another episode of the Dani Dupree Show. Instead, we got a woman owning up to a good amount of what she did and then shocked me by saying that they should call the police. I'm so use to modern soaps where the crazy actions rarely are met with a level of proper emotional fallout or reflection as today was. Adding in the flashback to Dani and Bill on Naomi's wedding day was smart. I wish this had been done sooner because this gives so much more depth to the Bill / Dani relationship. Not that I couldn't assume it wasn't there, but seeing it play out was wonderful. Judy Tate did a phenomenal job bringing that relationship to life.

I don't have much to say about the Andre/Ashley stuff except that Shanice did all the heavy lifting. I can only hope that the picture of Ashley with camera shy Andre yesterday leads to Andre's mug dragging up someone from his past he doesn't want to deal with. The only thing I find interesting is that the show has now potentially paired another one of Naomi's friends in a triangle with Dani.

Personally, I need a Shanice and Leslie scene of some depth because I feel like they would be as thick as thieves until Shanice learned the truth about Leslie.

The movement in the Martin / Smitty story was a smart beat to play since it is clear based on casting calls what the Smitty story angle is. I think Martin as appearance focused as most of the Duprees is spot on. I am curious to see what happens with the nugget that Bill sees Naomi as presidential material. I could possibly see some Naomi / Martin political rivalry down the line.

I like the Bill and Hayley dynamic, but I don't see this marriage lasting a year. Bill and Dani definitely still have heat and the flashback today only fuels that. I am looking forward to seeing how Hayley is accepted in Fairmont after Dani's little stunt at the wedding. I feel like that could turn the tides for some people.

I agree. Since yesterday, she has been showing Hayley with more grit and backbone, and I've enjoying it because it shows she's building on her character. I love when actor/ess do that. It's going to be good to see her bouncing off other characters going forward I suspect.

Same.

Derek is no prize, but let's face it, neither is Ashley. She started getting on my nerves when she asked for another shift at the hospital. GMAB. I still think Andre can do better LOL

In other news, Ashley's apartment is a disaster. That bed on a landing? Hope no one stumbles getting out of bed. Her place is almost as bad as Bill and Hayley's.

    • Very true...but TPTB all were desperate to get into prime time or films and couldn't, so they looked down on their own industry and tried to infuse themes that just didn't work in soaps. I would have thought after 9/11 the shows would have gone out of their way to provide that warmth and comfort that the audience wanted, and to bring old viewers back. Budget cuts? Just bring back kitchen sets, both ATWT and GL got rid of those besides one each..(the Snyders and the Bauers) You don't need super fancy sets if you have the writing.
    • LMAO they didn't

    • LY has a job on another show. She's going to be on the Legally Blonde prequel "Elle"
    • From what I can put together, the 1980s had several actors with interrupted runs. Michael Zaslow: 1971-1980, 1989-1997 Maureen Garrett: 1976-1980, 1988-?, ?-end Christopher Bernau: 1977-1984, 1986-1988 Peter Simon: 1981-1984, 1986-1996, ?-end Maeve Kinkead: 1981-1987, 1989-1996, 1997-end Robert Newman: 1981-1984, 1986-1991, 1993-end Jordan Clarke: 1983-1987, 1989-1993, 1996, 1997-end By 1989, I believe the longest-tenured cast member without a departure was Jerry verDorn.
    • I know they were popular, but once they tamed Van's shrew, I thought Billy just brought Van down. Since they had just Nola and Billy sitting around in 97, an interesting thing would be if they had developed a friendship that turned into something else while Van was "dead". Maybe Billy lives at the Boardinghouse (to work on repaing his relationship with Bill) and works at Company instead of the stupid diner. Nola and Bridget give him a job there and Nola and Billy (who had originally been a bit antagonistic) slowly build up a relationship and then Van returns. A returned new lease on life Van would return to her "high hat ways" and take on the Spaulding's for control of the company with Billy helping her behind the scenes.  I know that Jordan was on sporadically because of his issues and them not know if they could trust him not to fall of the wagon, but they could have done it slow..and give Van and Nola a new reason to get in each others hair (I love a good Van/Nola tussle.)

Perhaps it wasn't the most well-played match in history, but that's something no one will remember in a few years time.
    • The thing with Martin (for me) is that he should have been Anita and Vernon's kid. I honestly think he would have been fine being an older or younger brother to Dani and Nicole. It also would have made his relationship and kids feel more realistic. A handsome salt and pepper late 40s/early 50s congressman who settled down and adopted kids to fit an image for politics. Not that he didn't want this lifestyle but it is what he needed to do to get ahead. Also, we don't often get older characters playing LGBT roles not just on daytime but across most media. It would have been a refreshing take. As an alternative, Sam and Ty could have been Martin's kids from an earlier marriage a la the NJ governor that was outed. We could have also seen parallels between Vernon and Anita thinking back to how they handled Martin coming out compared to the way they accepted Chelsea.  As for Martin being Nicole and Ted's kid, I do wish in this case he was not tied to a marriage and kids, so that he could date and sleep around like any other character on a soap.  Yeah, I didn't get it...but what I did get is that girl is a bit crazy like her mama.  Vanessa and Joey talking about the poker table...get these people off my screen.

    • Unpopular opinion, but I didn't think the show should have reunited Billy/Vanessa at all until the final stretch of the show. When watching the 1989 episodes when both Vanessa and Billy return after being off the show... I liked that Vanessa had moved on from him and that the show was hinting at her wanting to reunite with her first love Ross while looking down at Nadine for being the one Ross was dating.  And I loved the twist where Billy and Nadine teamed up to keep Vanessa/Ross apart.   This was an interesting concept that sadly the writers dropped with the show deciding to make Vanessa pine over Billy between 1990 and 1993 when they finally reunited.   To me, Vanessa pining over Billy seemed out of character. At least once Billy was carted off to prison in 1994... she and Billy divorced and stayed divorced until the final months when they finally found their way back together.  During the years when they were divorced, I liked that they had maintained a friendship and connection.. with viewers (like my late mom) wondering if they would ever decide to make it work again. I wish the show had tried that with Josh/Reva because by the time of the final episode when they rode off into the sunset, I didn't care because we'd been through the make up and break ups between them for over 10+ years by that point.
    • I break down the primetime soap era (start of Dallas to end of Knots Landing) as  Up to Spring 1982: Building the foundation. Fall 1982-Spring 1985: Peak. Fall 1985-Spring 1988: Tanking. Fall 1988 onward: Off the rails plus budget mode. Of course individual shows vary and I've broken down each show in their threads.
