I think some of the fans are being way too harsh on Ashley & Derek. They are not poorly written as some have stated, IMO. They are building up to a triangle/quadrangle with Ted and possibly Dani. We have 40 characters to learn about and that's going to take some time. We just need to be patient and trust MVJ.

Of all the storylines that are getting heavy screentime, it does seem to be under-developed compared to the others from a writing standpoint. Ashley has been in almost every episode and we've seen her with her mom once or twice even though her mom has been in several episodes. Derek also has no connections to anybody so his character hasn't been developed at all.

This definitely stands out compared to the other storylines. It would be an easy fix from a writing standpoint so fingers crossed they get there soon.

Same. It's like some of the best tv shows or every really great movies where you can go back and watch something and come across something new every time you watch.

I agree with this. Especially the bold. They were already appearing to start a triangle with Derek/Ashley/Andre (with some Dani on the side I hope), but it seems like they are slowly starting to put other potential conflicts in the mix by this fire situation whether it's Derek with a condition now or just Derek going crazy himself. Not to mention Ashley being mad at him for running into the building knowing it was going to fall.

Yeah, like I said, it does seem like they are about to start with this fire situation.

Good for you. I will give PM his due that some of the scenes during that time I rewatched. But whole episodes has been a looooooooong time. Some (like me) are starving for something more than 'factory settings' though.

Did you mean Andre instead of Ted? I don’t see how Ted would factor in their story in that way.

Overall I disagree and don’t think its harsh at all. We’re going into the fourth week now so I think its more than fair to point out what is or isn’t working on the show at this stage for us as viewers. With the amount of screen time and focus they’ve carried so far, Ashley and Derek are a complete chop on every level for me, from acting to writing and chemistry. When they come on I feel like I accidentally changed the channel to a show I immediately want to turn off.

I do hope they get better but that triangle the show is setting up with Andre ain’t working so far either.

I don't know what takes me out more...the fact that THE Candiace is watching BTG...keeping that lovely Housewives connection or Robin retweeted it.

Love it!!

I agree. And it's no big deal. This is a soap opera. Not 100 percent of the story and characters will work. It's normal for people to express opinions and not like certain aspects.

Ashley and Dani are examples of negatives that all soap operas have been doing in their shows over the last few decades.

Ashley is an example of telling instead of showing.  All the characters talk about how wonderful and gifted she is, and we've yet to see many examples of that.  It's as if the writers are intentionally trying to sabotage her character on a subconscious level.

Dani is an example of a character that we're supposed to root for, but the writing and acting don't justify supporting such a vile character.  Karla saying she's trying emulate the Reva and Erica characters fascinates me because her acting choices don't support that.

It's only been three weeks, but my initial instincts say that MVJ is good at implementing other people's ideas/visions.. but doesn't have the ability to be an effective headwriter/showrunner.   I get Sally Sussman vibes from her (another talented writer that lacked the ability to be a showrunner/head writer).

At least MVJ has the good sense to have writers and a co-head writer (Bob Guza) with ability join her staff unlike Tyler Perry.

I enjoyed their individual scenes with other characters before they all came together at the Pub to commiserate over their relationships with Sami. I thought that was broken down pretty well. I just wish it had gone on a little longer. And I actually found it kinda funny too lol it seemed more mature than what we're used to. That's the kind of humor that should be on a soap. But I'm not really sure about all this talk of Dante Vitali and Sami's engagement though, especially since it doesn't look like Ali Sweeney is coming back anytime soon. What's the point of it all if we're (probably) not going to see it? It also looked like today was the first round of Brady vs. Xander as well lol I enjoyed their fight, and I'm interested in seeing this storyline play out. Even though I'm sure that Sarah will ultimately go back to Xander in the end, I'd like to see what happens along the way, and how they and everyone around them are affected by this. Btw, Theo and Jada? Idk. I still think he had the most chemistry with Arianna. And he was a bit of a dick too. It also seemed a little out of character for Jada for her to be so OK with him being such a dick  And though Alex and Stephanie were very boring again and need much better conflict than this book stuff, I am interested in the mystery of who's targeting Alex.  And yeah, I know this is a nitpick, but why is the Square still open after the gala? Isn't it supposed to be really late at night?
    • In fairness, Hillary and Bob Woods were thick as thieves again at least by the end of OLTL. But both she and I believe Mark Derwin not so subtly dissed Kale Browne in the oral history, lol.

    • Frat Boy Jr.'s reaction to seeing Luna was just awful acting. It was so bad that I started laughing.

Does anyone have screenshots of it?
    • Geez, I hadn't heard that Doctors story. HBS really did go through it.
    • No offense to the actors involved, but dear God in heaven: I don't know HOW viewers managed to get through that storyline with Maggie, Frank, Cal and baby Jill without running into oncoming traffic.  Then, to make matters worse, they dragged poor Diana into the mess!  I don't care WHO gets that damn baby!  Just wrap it up and move ON already!
    • Poor HBS.  To have to put up with Stephen Burleigh, who stuck his knee between her legs while rehearsing a love scene on THE DOCTORS, then told the director that's what he did with his wife; Kincaid, who had more hair on his chest and upper lip than Koko the Gorilla; Kale Browne, who taped his lines all over the OLTL studio floor, because he couldn't ever be bothered to [!@#$%^&*] memorize them; and Robert S. Woods, who apparently thought it was still 1979 and that he was still smolderingly sexy, so why should Bo Buchanan be stuck being in a happy marriage with Nora?  After all that, no wonder she jumped at the chance to play a lesbian on VENICE, lol.
    • @Maxim Thank you for the mini-review and clip from several pages ago. I appreciate you using the Bo/Alex clip as them meeting again by this point was a real surprise to me. The scene has some layers, getting a glimpse of Alex genuinely wanting the best for Bo rather than gloating. I was disappointed it ended with Tina dragging her out of the room for some much less interesting sparring (I did enjoy Alex pointing out just how quickly Tina got over Cord).
