Two things. 

I am not discounting self-referential injokes that are written into soap dialogue. Although I am critical of some of it. (DAYS, Jamey & Ron, mostly) I was NOT critical of this usage. 

And, I am not a Bell soap fan so Kimberlin Brown's villain is mostly a footnote to me. I am aware of the broad strokes, but I would not begin to say that I really KNOW that character because I simply do not have the experience of it, if you see what I mean.

Now, I have been rewatching GH for at least 2 years, not every day, but some days. I know I started before Mulchahey, which has been 1 year. Dang, I can't remember why I began it.

Same. I know Shelia as a legendary soap psycho but I didn't watch Y&R so I don't know anything about her. I respect the homage but that's all it should be. It's a brand new world and I'm ready for the evolution.

I guess my TL;DR is that I don't see a purpose in recasting these characters unless the scripts improve. It's not like some of the other green newbies where the script is there but they're not delivering.

I co-sign on this. The Andre/Ashley/Derek story is absolutely awful, and I blame the writing more than the actors. They're not doing it for me, but I have to agree with you and wonder who could make this stuff work.
