I think we too often fail to make the distinction between 'lazy writing' and 'writing I don't like'.

Would I have made both husbands cheaters? Maybe not. But Ted having had a fling with Dana years ago isn't quite the same thing as Bill dogging Dani out with Hayley very recently. And the Richardson marriage being far from the perfect life it appears to be was baked into the show from the beginning, per casting notices. So if it wasn't Dana it would've been something else. Honestly based on the casting description I had expected Dr. Ted to be a full-on psycho.

No, Ted never saw her. He was getting out of the elevator and was on his phone the entire time. He looked up twice and made eye contact wtih Eva and Ashley's mother but Leslie was off to the side and he never noticed her

Understood.  But if TPTB wanted to have both Dupree daughters in troubled marriages, why not make one a cheating husband, and the other a cheating wife???  Two cheating husbands in the first three-weeks of the show does seem a bit lazy -- or at least unimaginative. Without getting political -- it sort of makes black wives seem like victims and black husbands incapable of monogamy.  Neither are good messages to send to an audience in 2025, in my opinion.

It’s a soap. And we want the black characters to be treated the same as their white counterparts on other shows. Name a white lead that hasn’t cheated on their spouse. I don’t think it says anything about black people and monogamy and I say that as a black man.

I get that. Per the topic I'm not going to invoke a certain poster with not one but three active forum accounts who insists this show is some sort of trashy anti-Black conspiracy pill, but I do think you have a fair point. I also have to think Ducksworth and the NAACP would be cognizant of that. So I expect the Ted/Dana saga to have considerably more twists and turns.

Based on the casting notice I truly expected Dr. Ted to turn out to be a Salem Stalker/Carnation Killer type tbh (and it still wouldn't shock me), which would be a shame because he is unbelievably fine. So cheating is a bit old hat to me. Their marriage can take the blow, unless Ted gets in much deeper or has even more to hide.

I do think Nicole turning out to be a cheater (on top of Ted and Dana's mess) or secret fetishist/nymphomaniac or danger addict would be brilliant.

Oh, I think the Ashley storyline is beyond boring and the jury is out on the saga of Gamblin' Doug tbh. I get that Dani is divisive to some here but that's exactly what they're going for; half the audience loves her, half is exasperated.

I do think Jacob could die and a recast, less stiff Naomi could meet a more interesting man with dreadlocks, which could trigger another emergency midnight press conference from the Duprees about the one man in Fairmont Crest with a different hairstyle. I think Martin is a cyborg sent from the future who must be destroyed, and I think him and Smitty having near-adult children is still comical and they should be sent to the Bobby Martin Daycare and come back toddlers. But these are pretty minor criticisms at this point. I think the show definitely isn't perfect and we'll see more things ironed out, but it's coming together pretty well in short order.

I do enjoy Ashley away from Derek more than I do her with him. But I am also a bit biased toward Jen Jacob, whom I adore. And Dani is definitely an audience-splitting character, which I think soaps do need, and Michele Val Jean and her team have done well, in the writing, to allow that to happen. Plus, the work of Karla Mosley gives into that as well.

    • Absolutely agree. Nicole's reaction to Ted, and Kat's reaction to Eva, will be interesting.
    • One tiny problem. Apparently she just inked a new deal. All it means, though, is that they will want to get some mileage out of her before they implement the DRW50 Master Plan. What do ya think? 6 months too short? 3 years def too long. A year and a half?
    • Your haughtiness amuses me in return. Like you think you know ALL?
    • I've seen this error before. I think it should be okay in the future.

    • Ted has been icky and giving off bad guy vibe from the first moment I saw him. I have a sensor for that and it was beeping! So...don't put all the blame on Silkpress. The woman needs a good psychiatrist, true... but Leslie is just one of the skeletons in HIS closet. Ted is even a bigger monster, because he's hidden.  IT WAS A PERFECT REVEAL. Perfect, because in the beginning of the show... Dani was envying her sister's marriage... In these first few messy weeks... her own misery and life spiraling was contrasted to the picture-perfect marriage Nicole and Ted seemed to have. (on first glance). What happened now... is very very smart writing. THIS IS THE MOMENT THE MASKS ARE FALLING! The message it delivers to me is this. It says - no matter how things look... they are not what they seem. You can't judge a marriage by how it appears to be. Aaaand in the long run... maybe the messiest-looking people (Dani Dupree, I'm talking about you!) HAVE less issues and problems than the ones that seem to have it all. The ones with the MOST skeletons in the closets and the dirty pasts.   It was an AHA moment for the whole family and the viewers and a way forward for Dani and Nicole to bond even more and realize they are MORE alike than they are different. Now it will be quite a different dynamic, because Dani will have to SUPPORT someone and not be the one getting her wounds licked always. And also another lesson. Some men are dogs. Not all of them. But a lot of them are. The difference is... some can't be easily recognized. These creeps have put very impressive masks. The show is doing this perfectly. Beat by beat. Exploring classic soap opera themes and stories. Real-life characters and situations, that are relatable and make you think... Hmm... maybe I need to dig a little deeper next time I say "these people are perfect" or otherwise. Maybe I need to think MORE. That type of storytelling. It's not easy to do that.  Brava BTG.  B-R-A-V-A!
    • I speculate that Nicole will go through cycles of numbness/grief/rage.  At some point later on, regardless of DNA results (or faked results), whether there was a baby swap or not, I think Nicole will forgive Eva, and eventually love her someday.  Nicole will come to understand that Leslie gaslighted/manipulated Eva.  Nicole will be her loving self, although more guarded than before.   Just my thoughts.
    • Lol. That comment was just silly.  I feel like The Guiding Light started it when they made me love Roger Thorpe. Leslie is pussycat in comparison and there is a lot of story to go  for her and Eva.
    • Your posts continue to amuse me. I don't know anyone else who thinks Leslie and Eva should "hightail it out of town."  And listen, soaps have been FOR DECADES keeping around villains who we know would be jailed in real life. So is it crazy to think "they are just going to let this slide"? No. It's kind of hilarious to watch you take everything that happens on this show and distort it or lead me to think, "Huh???"
    • I can't even count the amount of magazine covers and photoshoots KKL has been in the past few months. Shame that the show is not mirroring the success she's having. It would have been so great to see both KKL and Brooke be on top.  I'm still holding a grudge that Brad rewrote the company take-over to a nothing... and then nulled Brooke to being a romance beggar again.
    • I'm also getting an error that I haven't seen before, but there's been a couple of different variations, so not going to worry about it for now.
