Although rumors have swirled for months since her exit from “General Hospital,” where she played Sam McCall on the daytime drama series for 21 years, as of right now, there is no truth to social media rumblings that Kelly Monaco has landed a new soap gig, particularly at “Days of our Lives,” Soap Opera Network has confirmed.

According to unsubstantiated reports, Monaco was to start taping at the Peacock series in March but a rep for the show tells us there is no truth to that, stating adamantly, “Not true.”

Soap Opera Network first broke the news last August when we reported “General Hospital” had plans to “terminate” Monaco’s character off the show. The following month, Monaco taped her final episodes, with a video of her final day on set going viral in mid-November. In it, the actress could be seen holding back tears as she thanked the show’s cast and crew for the “experience that I’ll take with me for the rest of my life.”

Since last appearing in the November 1, 2024 episode of “General Hospital,” which saw her character killed off after being injected with digitalis by Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), kicking off a serial killer storyline on the soap, fans of Monaco had been left wondering what’s next for the former “Dancing with the Stars” Mirror Ball trophy winner with many hoping she’d eventually land at another soap.

Thus far, Monaco has been relatively quiet on social media, last interacting with fans who shared heartening messages to and about her on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) last December.

In response to a fan who was thrilled she had received a follow from Kelly’s account, Monaco responded, telling the poster, “Thank you, for all of your support! As always, it doesn’t go unnoticed… Very much appreciated. Happy Holidays to you and yours!”

Monaco also hearted a few other posts sent to and about her, one of which was in response to a fan who shared a clip of four female cast members from “The Young and the Restless” performing a “Wicked” TikTok dance challenge, wherein fans of the hit movie, based on the Broadway musical, mimic the iconic moves shown in the film that is set to the song “What Is This Feeling” by Academy Award nominees Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

“I would love to see @kellymonaco1 dancing and having fun with these women. #yr Kelly would bring her talent, loyalty, dedication and all her fans with her! She’d bring so much excitement too! #yr would be so lucky to have her @CBS,” read the initial post on X. It was followed by another poster who said, “Make my wish come true, Santa!!! Please!!”

In addition to “Dancing with the Stars” and “General Hospital,” Monaco’s credits include her star-turning role as Livvie Locke on “Port Charles,” where she appeared from 2000-2003, and made a big impression on fans, particularly with her work opposite Michael Easton, who played vampire Caleb Morely on the soap. Easton would later reunite with Monaco on “General Hospital” in 2012 when he took his “One Life to Live” character to Port Charles, the town, before eventually portraying multiple other characters throughout his 12-year-run on the 61-year-old soap – neither of his characters was romantically involved with Easton’s.

Nominated for at least two Daytime Emmy Awards throughout her career, the first of which came in 2003 in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role on “Port Charles,” and again in 2006 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Sam on “General Hospital,” Monaco also appeared in episodes of such shows as “Baby Daddy,” “Football Wives,” “Spin City” and “Baywatch,” among others.

Love this confirmation. I have nothing against the actress, just not interested in overzealous fan-think online being reported as news. I truly hope she finds a great gig or something new that she feels a passion about.

I love that you posted this. Could I have seen her on DAYS?! Not really. I honestly don't see a daytime return for Kelly Monaco, and that's nothing against her, but I feel like she may have some sour feelings towards the medium given how she was treated.

well hopefully if she does join another soap at some point, I hope puts some effort into her acting, and not just sleep walk through scenes like she did for years on GH

We saw the body; they wouldn't have dedicated two episodes of everyone standing around Sam's corpse in a hospital bed for her to come back.

I could see her on a soap again someday, probably more of a short-term spot than a big role. I actually think DAYS would not be a bad fit for her. If she had a bit more of her old energy, then a Dimera role would be in her range.

i was a big Kelly Fan since Port Charles and her run from 2000-2003. I thought she was the most beautiful women ever back then. When she joined GH I was so thrilled. But damn. I don’t know what happened to her or her mindset but her acting has been off for over a decade. I wouldn’t say since Steve Burton left in 2012-ish but somewhere down the line she was like phoning it in harder than Richard Anderson as Jeff Webber before he left GH lol

I could see her on Days, but probably as a brand new character though, not an already established one.

If GH ever chooses to it is easy to bring Sam (or anyone on that show, really) back. This is a show that unfroze Stavros Cassadine multiple times, and Sam is in the same family. She even has a doppelganger running around. That being said I am more than fine with her staying dead. Would it amuse me if someday she appeared as, say, hellraiser Livvie or Sam's distant Eurotrash Cassadine cousin relative for a brief stint (complete with bad accent)? Sure. Anything that wakes Kelly up, which she'd barely done for 15 years.

Those are all good suggestions. I don't think Frank will ever ask her back, unless he has no choice, but I could see a future producer, if GH has one, doing so.

I've never even heard of "overzealous fan-think online" so I happen not to think it had anything to do with anything & we'll see. One possibility would be Kelly's people saying things. It's not unimaginable.
