Last night while scrolling through TikTok, I stumbled across several posts from younger Black women talking about BTG, and I have to say, I was intrigued.

The first wave of comments had me laughing. Three different women all said they enjoyed the pilot, but were concerned about having to watch it every single day. They each mentioned how their grandmothers watched soaps religiously but admitted they didn’t realize what a serious commitment it was. One even asked, “What is Gen Z supposed to do? Wait for the next day to stream? Binge five episodes at a time?” I found it hilarious that they seemed overwhelmed by the sheer volume of content, especially since this is the same generation that can binge hours of true-crime documentaries without batting an eye.

The second most common comments brought up colorism. Quite a few posters pointed out the contrast between the light-skinned and dark-skinned characters. Specifically, they noted how Dani, who is light-skinned, had her husband leave her for a darker-skinned woman. I don't have a strong opinion on the topic, but it was interesting to see the conversation unfold.

Lastly, there were a few comments about Karla Mosley’s over-the-top acting. There were clips of her walking, yelling, and staring wide-eyed at other characters, and people were asking if this was standard soap opera behavior. The consensus seemed to be that her style felt anachronistic—and unintentionally hilarious.

I never rewatch soaps but I have gone out of my way to watch the show while I’m working live and then rewatch in the evening with the boo without work to distract me. He’s only watched bits and pieces of Soaps from when I’ve had them on but he was actually interested in starting this show from the beginning with me so I’ve loved that. And like you I pick up on things I missed the first time around.

What a time to be alive in the soapworld. :) I feel that.

Even in the one episode, looking over these posts, I see I missed a lot. So...gotta go back. :) :)

At the rate this special report is going we might not get BTG today

the initial special report is over. however, after the private meeting is done, there will be a press conference which could well preempt btg.

so… stay tuned!

What I like most about the style of writing is... how real it is. The dialogue is alive and none of it seems stiff or too-contrived. There are no extreme levels of camp - just... light over the top moments that make you smile and laugh. None of it screams plotty or doing-it-only-for-the-ratings. They could have started with some bizarre plot that could make viewers interested... for like 10 episodes... but No, MVJ is smarter than that and what she is doing is - creating a world that once we get in... we won't be able to come out. In a good way. Characterization - what I see in the show are normal human beings and not caricatures. Listen, watch and learn, Bradley Bell! Human beings with dimensions and dept.  For example - Dani can be perceived by some people to be the suffering ex-wife, while others will see a vain narcissist whose pretend "Stepford" world just collapsed. Someone can see Hayley as a conniving opportunist, while someone else may also see her as an outsider - someone who doesn't belong in the Dupree's orbit. There is not a single person that is just 1 thing or just bad or good. And I love that. It takes imagination, skill, talent, dedication, work and time to be able to write something so rich and so meaningful. And also - addicting. I feel like my day isn't complete if I don't watch the show now. ❤️

BRAVA!

Whatever indeed.

I'd have much preferred other words being quoted.

Look, Maxim, I adore you. Let's get past this.

Either way, it does not have to be from outside of the marriage, as you previously stated. A child could have been born pre-marriage.

And easily, Anita could have possibly been with a sibling/family member of Vernon's prior to them getting together, etc. I'd hate that kind of storytelling, but it's a viable option. Or a child could change their name; no one said the child needed to be a Dupree by blood.

I said it did! Lol. Obviously I don’t have insider info and there may not be a son out there. I’m just speculating and I wouldn’t be surprised if Vernon does

Sheila's existence is ridiculous at this point, especially her working at budget Olive Garden.

This is Brad Bell with Sheila with the Bolded part

This is exactly what I want to avoid. Sheila has been ruined several times over but I thought they did a great job of resetting the character so she'd be viable long term. Why they almost immediately jumped to her shooting Steffy is beyond me. What happened to blackmail and small schemes?

A character like Leslie could last for years if handled correctly. I'm especially curious about why she's doing this. That secret could go a long way to providing sympathy for the character. I feel like it has to be something solid if Eva is on her side, but of course her mom could just be lying about what happened.
