I don't even think they needed any ties to the original cast to do this reboot (and chronologically, wouldn't Dwyane and Whitney's daughter be like 30 now, lol, unless they say it's another/younger daughter). I would have just had Dwyane and maybe Kim or Freddie pop up as occasional professors.

But nonetheless, great news and I hope it gets ordered by Netflix. It's long overdue for this concept to get the reboot treatment.

When Debbie Allen responded to a question about a ADW revival by saying she was “working on it”, this was surely what was in the works. This is interesting but we all know that Netflix has mixed results on reboots and revival or legacy television series. Had it been rebooted/revived on Peacock, I would have felt a bit more secure on this but I guess she had to play the hand she was dealt. This will be interesting.
Thanks for the tag @Taoboi.

It sure would be nice to have some cameo appearances and brief storyline arcs by the original cast members (e.g. what if the daughter were to major in journalism and got into a course where the guest lecturer were none other than Maggie Lawton? What if a divorced Denise Huxtable were doing her PhD and thinking about a semester at Hilton? That could draw in Dwayne and Whitley for a B story)

That's my primary concern at Netflix. I would've been happier with its long-term chances on Hulu, as much as any streaming show that isn't Stranger Things or a Taylor Sheridan show has a shot. But I'm pleased it's finally moving ahead, as I have been deep in rewatching the original series.

Once I saw the article online yesterday, I thought about our talk in the last year about how it is STILL a relevant show to this day so a reboot/continuation made me think of you. Always speaking things into the Universe like you did with Heather/Daniel/Lily.

I tend to agree, although I'm glad for Kadeem and Jasmine to get the work. Jasmine was recently so bullied online over her appearance she went to get cosmetic surgery, IIRC, which disgusted me. I do hope they will not have her just doing the old Whitley entirely all these years later.

I would definitely enjoy seeing people like Kim, or even "Uncle Ron," popping in at times.

A part of me thinks they missed their chance 10-15 years ago but certainly shows much less warranting of a revival have had them (like Murphy Brown - and I didn't even mind the Murphy Brown revival). At least it's happening while most of the cast is still with us so there's a chance for some of them to get a paycheck.

Oh wow, I didn’t know that. Years ago, I did read someone ask why she and her sister looked as if there were a huge disparity in their ages, though they were very close in age and another person responded “cigarettes”. I don’t know what to say about the cosmetic surgery. It’s sad if that’s why she did it, but issues like that, can be more complex than meets the eye. Hollywood is a rough place, especially for women and double it for women of color, where there is the perception that “Black don’t crack”.

Kim is someone I would definitely be interested in knowing what happened in her life. She and her fiancé Spencer (played by Sheryl Lee Ralph’s brother) were both med students at Hillman and the show could just as easily build the show around any kids they might have had.

    • Actually Kim Zimmer got six weeks off to test the waters for pilot season in L.A. - she said later she went on many auditions and got one offer for a sitcom, but she would one of many in an ensemble. She turned it down, because it wasn't worth leaving Guiding Light for a supporting role on a sitcom.
    • I'm not even sure why Zoe would care, even if they know each other offcamera.  I can't see Jean going, but if she is - good riddance at this point.
    • I just found the commercial on YouTube, with several other GL'ers doing the same commercial - how fun!

She did the same for me once Ghost Reva arrived (the anxiety and paranoia) - which is when the storyline for Rick/Annie started, with their Chicago past and her alcoholism. But before all that, when she was new and tending to Josh's broken leg, she was just normal, sweet and very cute/flirty.
    • I have to admit Annie exhausted me somewhat before she went nuts. So much anxiety. She and Robert were OK I guess. Didn't ever stick out much one way or the other.
    • I meant to ask in the May thread, but hey...it's not like it won't come up...   ...has our opinions of Jessica changed at this point? I know we debated at one point if she was sincere in her feelings for Ty or if she was in on his bullying. Now that a little more time has passed, what do we think?
    • Which is why I said...and continue to say mind you...that the designer is still trying to figure out what works for which character...highlight my points with particular characters. And as I also agree with you, too many misses. She has not found a clear, firm rhythm for me. Yet.   I also agree that BTG does a much better job. But I'll give credit where it's due.
    • I watch many episodes from the Vault, a secret source here on SON, because the quality is much better than YouTube. But, it has commercials that I have to skip through, although even these commercials give me serious nostalgia vibes. All that said, there is a consistent 1996 commercial for Excedrin with Frank Beatty!  He talks right into the camera about his feelings, and it's like Brent Lawrence never left. I wonder if GL fans back in the day ever saw this and had feelings about it.
    • Dukes of Hazzard had a good run when it moved to 8pm but even when that was failing ABC and NBC couldn't come up with a hit show to dominate  that timeslot. NBC sent The A Team, Knight Rider and Riptide there for their final seasons and CBS did the same with Scarecrow & Mrs King. Otherwise it was a barrage of new shows that never worked.
    • Agree. Much more miss than hit. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I thought clothing was supposed to be flattering. A lot of the Y&R women are seen in the tight solid color dresses ,often with cutouts/one shoulder. Now that may be a fashion but to have all of them in interchangeable dresses... Do the characters have a particular color pallette/style that is unique to them? BTG does a better job in that department. Some recent Y&R looks. I actually like the dress but we see that style too often.   Nikki's new look is not to my liking.
    • The first show I found had Maeve dressed horribly, and I just shook my head and thought she must've been thrilled to be portraying someone much more sophisticated and rich. Vanessa's hats and gloves probably cost more than her AW character's entire wardrobe.
