knh, you beat me to it, I just saw on Twitter that John died last night. sad.pngsad.png I guess last weeks was in fact the last we would ever see Edward Quartermaine! sad.pngsad.pngsad.png

Thought I would share this too.....

From his daughter in reference to his final day on set:

As our Dad moves closer and closer to joining our Mom, I thought I would share a bit of much needed "happiness" for the Ingle clan. For those of you that have followed Dad as "Edward Quartermaine" on General Hospital for all these years, I

wanted to let you know that Dad was able to return to the set on August 24th, for what will undoubtedly be his last performance on the show. His scene was small and he had very few words.... but his presence on the set was monumental. Beginning with a standing ovation by the entire cast and crew as we entered the set, to the line of people waiting to hug and wish him well, it was a day that he (and we) will remember forever. Several months ago, Dad had said that " if he only had one more day on the set of General Hospital, he would feel like he had won".... On that Friday, with the help of one of his caregivers (Anthony), a wheelchair van and 2 of his daughters, (myself and Chrissy), that goal was realized. Entering the set of GH was emotional for Dad and it was obvious why he has loved being there all these years. Chrissy and I joked and said it was the ONLY "Hospital" we have enjoyed visiting since January! Ha! The filming did not take that long and Dad did a good job. The cast and crew were patient and worked with Dad to get a scene that was meaningful. Standing there watching the monitor, we were struck by the reality that it was not Edward Quartermaine who was on the set....it was Dad surrounded by people who love and care about him. It was truly a wonderful afternoon. None of us know what tomorrow holds, but today we will hang onto the memory of August 24th and the love and support that was shown for our Dad. For anyone who might want to see the show, it is being aired tomorrow (September 11th), on ABC at 1:00 p.m. (PST). This is a new time slot for GH, for those of you who watch the show. The producers said it was September 11th, but then we heard that it may be a two-part episode. Might want to set your tivos for both days just to be sure. Last but not least,"Thank You" again to all of our family and friends for your love, prayers and support over these past few months. We truly CAN feel it:-)

^^^ That's such a beautiful way to look at it, Baby Boy. You're right, Tracy will have that to hold on to when Edward dies.

This is sad, but also a celebration. John Ingles had a life well lived, and now he knows no more pain or loneliness.

I imagine Edward's death and funeral will be closer to Christmas once they have it all worked out.

What sad news about John Ingle's passing. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

It was nice for GH to bring him back for one final episode, as he wanted, and it was such a heartwarming episode too. For the Emma part and especially for the Tracy part...Back in the 70s, she withheld his medicine, and this time, she stole it, so he could have it. Talk about coming around full circle. Plus, Tracy always fought for Daddy's love, and she finally got to hear those words. I don't know if he ever said that to her before.

As for Sean Kanan's return - I hope he plays AJ. Would be good to build up the Q's again. Could you imagine??? For years, we thought the family would never see the light of day again, and in recent weeks, Monica and especially Tracy have been getting a chance to shine!

I do not like the rumors about SK playing Jason, and I don't really see GH doing that since they are leaving the door open for a SBu return... Though, if they did have SK play Jason, talk about giving the finger to SBu (and Guza's team).

Finally, don't see the point of bringing on a new character with a former actor. Thoughts of SBr as Claudia come to mind.

Time will tell I suppose.

As for today's episode, I felt so bad for Tracy when she found out the truth. Finally, a man who likes her for HER, and she finds out he's a rapist, and possibly a murderer. Dang. What was up with Sonny being all protective of Tracy though??? "I don't feel comfortable leaving you with this scum" or whatever he said. I actually thought it was kind of a nice thing to say, but I'm glad Tracy kicked him out. She can handle Joe on her own.

    • There are the makings of good Emmy reels in these past couple of episodes, but the industry is still going to favor even the most mediocre stories and performances on the older soaps. And with the pressure from the government over race I can see the academy shutting out Beyond The Gates to avoid criticism from the administration and the far right media.
    • oh, definitely! It's too bad she hit the start of a rough transition period for the show. She shines, but she's stuck with bad story and some (if not exactly bad) not great co-stars. Uh, who did Maureen O'Sullivan play? (Sigh--and only if I'd understood exactly who and how wonderful Teresa Wright was in '86) God, the summer of '84 was literally one event after another. Kim's outfit alone must've been worth a small fortune. And poor Maeve. She looks so uncomfortable. Rebecca Hollen told a story on Locher Room where Maeve dropped the f-bomb during the shooting of it. For some reason, she wasn't being listened to, and had just had enough. As a producer, I would've been holding my breath as my pregnant actress kept walking around strange and undoubtably uneven sets in that long skirt.
    • Thanks. I'm glad we have some fan memories of these years as this is such a typically snide take on the genre. It's also poorly written and reminds me a great deal of the tedious "snark" recaps that became popular in the '90s. The end in particular. The 1979/80 stuff I have seen is much more polished than a number of soaps at the time. It was very easy to watch and not too bogged down in past story. Margo is played by Ann Williams, who was on what seemed like every soap. I think she said Margo was her favorite role. These episodes aren't consecutive, but if you ever have time, they are worth a watch. They are bits and pieces from January and April of 1979 - April in and out of prison, her past calling to her via her psychic powers (and the suicide of Miles' wife Denise, who had murder framing in mind). April 1979 has the end of Winter Austen (such a fantastic soap name). I don't want to drop a ton of links but you can find playlists on Youtube.
    • And the rating 'wars' continue...hehe.
    • Well, it was fun while it lasted for Rebecca Herbst. Le sigh.
    • I am wholeheartedly enjoying this show. I just haven't been able to post as much as I used to. But yes, this episode needs to be submitted for the EMMYs and there needs to be wins. I better NOT see Y&R, DAYS, or B&B winning in categories over BTG. I feel like the only show that is giving BTG an ounce of competition this season is GH.
    • I never thought the day would come, but too much MM for me.
    • I think it may be that the character was brought in for a specific purpose and then became popular with viewers, and the show didn't know how to respond. The choice to pivot away from Simon/India may show that you are right and they didn't care for her...although pairing them up may be another sign they didn't care for her. I don't connect well with this period but it does make me happy seeing some of these characters before the great purge and some of the surprises - I'd forgotten the wonderful Maureen O'Sullivan popped up to be bumped off. So typical of soaps by this point, but it doesn't grate as much as later on when Y&R would bring on any random cast member from Small Wonder. I'm also amazed at this time at just how much money the show must have had. The costumes for the Founder's celebration in summer 1984, or whatever it was, looked gorgeous.
