A nice experiment that was probably doomed from the get-go. You really can’t go home again.

This is why we need a Michael Logan. A soap journalist attached to a powerful brand who isn’t scared of pissing off TPTB. We need a Patrick Mulcahey exit interview, STAT.

I guess they assumed they would get more of a boost from Jason's return then they did, and Mulcahey was the scapegoat.

We all pretty much knew this wasn't going to work out, we knew Frank and ABC were not going to ever take a risk on anything beyond the bare minimum, but I'm disappointed there was not more time given.

And we can't even say they were kowtowing to fans because most of the fan anger I saw on Twitter was often toward Korte, who will still get to write whatever Carly and Joss centered material she wants.

I really don't know if I believe the ratings will go up any even if they try to pull out the greatest hits - what ARE the greatest hits now anyway?

FV clearly never was behind this hire or losing his trained writers, which is why Van Etten is back. The show was much improved but also deeply schizophrenic and stuck in the mire. Now Frank gets to keep control and reset. Sad, predictable but I don't have to watch it.

Damn.

Although I was hoping everything would work out, the minute I saw Chris Van Etten's name back in the credits, I knew the end was nigh.

Yeah, we're gonna need an exit interview from Mulcahey to explain why this did not work out.

I still say PM wasn't allowed to write for the characters/stories he wanted to. FV was still pulling the strings.

But to rehire a fired writer again?

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
    • I also never understood Alex's friendship with Sonni or keeping the secret of Marah's paternity.  Not exactly heartbroken about Ms. Sally being ushered to the Hereafter.

I'm sorry but I'm a glutton for punishment. Would love to see this woman OWNING the canvas. Telling off Leslie who tells her she's the head b!tch.
    • And in case anyone is confused; Rusty was hired by HB to work undercover and infiltrate some gang sabotaging Lewis.

    • The Dallas finale was the highest-rated episode since October 9, 1987 (Gone with the Wind). Prior to the finale, the last Dallas episode to finish ahead of a new episode of Murder, She Wrote was October 23, 1987 (Tough Love). Prior to the finale, the last Dallas episode to finish ahead of a new episode of The Cosby Show was February 22, 1985 (Shattered Dreams).
