Apologies if this has been addressed, but so fast moving is this thread, I might have lost track.

Has there been any news on international distribution? Wouldn’t want to get left behind. With me giving up on General Hospital’s return to ‘factory settings’, Beyond The Gates would be the only U.S. soap I watch. And as a black man, and a writer, I’d have a resonance with the show unlike the others.

I'm sure it'll be fine.  I only wish it were 1/2 hour instead of an hour, because devoting 60 minutes a day, 5 days a week, is such a big ASK for a brand new product.  I think it would potentially reach more new viewers if it weren't requesting 5 hours a week from us when we're not even sure yet if we'll like it.

I'm still wondering about the totality of the 40 characters. Assuming that Lindstrom and McClain will be series regulars, that number will be 22. If I'm correct, we also have met 6 recurring characters. That makes 12 whom we haven't met. I wonder who they will be?

You make a fair point, and I'll tell you something else that I've been saying from the very beginning of all of this: It had better move. The pacing had better be a fairly swift one. Almost no one is going to be willing to sit through some slow moving saga. People will get tired quick.

Hehe. 'factory settings' #facts

I have seen very little on international distribution outside of what appears to be a loophole for Canadian viewers since some viewers (if I remember reading it correctly) have a subscription through a service that streams Paramount things so they might be able to stream BTG when it starts through an app called Carrot. But I'm not sure how reliable that information is.

Without commercials, soap opera episodes are only about 36-40 minutes each, making a full week’s viewing under 3 and a half hours. The idea that this format and episode length is some huge hurdle just feels…outdated. The most popular content consumed right now includes daily multi-hour livestreams/random topic deep dives, people watching 200+ episode series like Grey’s Anatomy and Law & Order or binge viewing every new show these streamers drop that have legit hour long episode run times for 8-13 episode seasons.

Streaming has completely changed how people watch TV and all of the current US soaps are some of the only content that stay perched in the top viewing lists of their respective on demand platforms. Beyond The Gates just has to get people hooked quickly with compelling characters and good drama and be consistent with it. Based off of what we’ve seen so far I think it can meet the challenge.

    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
    • He a dirty dog! Those are his kids and he hurt everyone. At this point he needed to just come clean. I can't believe I was lusting over this man! I hope they aren't quick to forgive.
    • The way I took it is that he did not want to confirm or deny anything until he talked to Nicole first. He was very calculated with the wording he used with Martin and Kat
    • I still see Alfonso Ribeiro as Carlton when Martin gets angry.
    • Not that I want to defend Y&R's writers, but it's not as absurd as you'd think and I believe they plucked it from reality (and then bungled it). The Estee Lauder Companies purchased Tom Ford's brand several years ago and I am willing to bet that's how Jabot came to buy Marchetti.
    • Loved the episode today. looking forward to the fallout. Nubian-Sheila looked fantastic, but I wish the writers would cut back on her overuse of figurative language. I loved the "fix yo mind ministries" line though. The background music during her fantasy confrontation with Nicole was epic.
    • Nothing makes sense on this show. I wish there was a garbage can emoji. That sums up 90% of the show right now.
    • You're welcome

Jane Wyman return episode was head-to-head w/ Cheers season 8 finale. Falcon Crest broadcast syndication began Fall 1986, which overlapped w/ Oprah going national. AFAIK cable broadcasts were Lifetime and Soapnet. I have no memory of cable broadcasts on TBS, TNT, TNN, E!, FX.
