Hollywood Reporter: ‘Tonight Show,’ ‘Late Night’ Staffs Will Be Paid During Strike

NBC late night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers will help cover their staff’s pay during the Writers Guild of America strike.  Staffers for Fallon’s Tonight Show and Meyers’ Late Night learned in meetings Wednesday morning that NBC will cover two weeks of pay for workers on the two shows.

Fallon and Meyers will personally pay their teams for a third week; health insurance for employees of both programs is guaranteed through September, per a source close to the two shows. NBC didn’t respond to requests for comment.

Has anyone from daytime said/posted anything?

Nothing but solidarity from me for these folks striking.  The transparency issue alone  needs a resolution, let alone all the rest of their very reasonable requests.  I hope the studios start to get a little nervous by all the solidarity, especially with other union contracts up soon as well, and stop the rhetoric and stupid statements.

Thanks. The part about creatives flocking back to networks seems to coincide with a few shows (mainly sitcoms) having a network revival. Yet I wonder if any of the bigwigs will see this as a possible future or will just, as this article details, keep chasing after the likes of Yellowstone, which already seems to be flailing around and ridden with conflict, full of characters who don't connect (which is why they keep stunt casting).

There's been a lot of framing of the strike already as in the shows are so bad, clearly the writers aren't good, bring on AI, or oh these are all liberal propaganda - both the left and the right have been pushing this. I guess it's just the start. I imagine many on top in the industry have been waiting for the moment to permanently crush these unions and send writers to the bare minimum. That's why I won't be surprised if this stretches on for most of the year.

I hope sanity wins out, because otherwise, especially with AI, we're turning a corner we'll never come back from.

I agree in theory with what that person said about how streaming getting slashed just means less focus on the bad programs, but with the likes of Ryan Murphy and his sickness still ruling the roost, it's hard to imagine being a reality.

The fact that some the WGA's issues the AMPTP just rejected flat out and others offered no compromise makes no sense. Hopefully enough shows stall prod and AMPTP decides to bring solid offers to the table.

Yes, they mention that in the article...I was thinking more along the lines that their return may be why networks have started to have a few more hits again.

SAG and DGA contracts are up at the end of June, I think, so I wonder if they will join in or not.

YR-Josh Griffith

GH-Gary Tomlin who directs is also a fi-core writer

Days has Fran Meyers & Jeanne Marie Ford

Not sure about B&B

Also it depends how far ahead each soap is in writing. If they have months of scripts to film, it may not be that bad

Well If AMPTP doesnt solve the WGA Contract, It will be hard for them to get new ones for DGA & SAG-AFTRA

I am morbidly curious as to how many of the soaps will even survive a prolonged strike. Cheap as they are now, there's still always cheaper programming, especially if affiliates just want to turn the hours over to more propaganda.

    • To be fair, I don't think she was written out as much as not being written for as they had to gear up for the final episode. I'd assume they might've had the option to use her again but they just didn't find the space.
    • Seems Traci and Julie on Days are both shopping at 'Granny's Garments'. You just can't go wrong with a loose print long line jacket (hides those figure faults, gals), a comfy pair of slacks, a scoop neck T and some chunky accent jewelry. And don't forget your crowning glory-a wash 'n' go hair do.

    • I loved the cliffhanger of Xander being arrested for Philip's attack.
    • I've got to say GH is the soap I'm enjoying the most right now, followed closely by Days. I can't wait for Willow's world to come crashing down on her. She is one stupid hoe. To choose Drew over her children is despicable. I'm loving Rory Gibson as new Michael.
    • That could apply to Dani too, and Leslie looking at herself in the mirror being crazy. The gambling scenes were pure fast-forward material.   The best part of the show was seeing Mona.   BTG is slowly becoming background noise when I watch it.
    • It seems like it was tested with all the concern she showed him. Obviously Dani would create a lot more conflict because her sister is Vanessa's best friend, but on the other hand Vanessa could pull the socio-economic class card on Shanice which would make for good conflict.
    • I could buy Belle being drawn to EJ, even being confused/horrified over it... but to actually date/sleep with him is a stretch. Still... this is the soap that had Satan possess a character, underground dungeons, a heart being removed from someone's chest and then slipped back in (Jennifer), and almost every is related by blood and/or marriage... so I can't expect the soap to not have Belle go for it with EJ.
    • Belle doesn't have a "savior complex" she has a half assed martyr hoe complex. See her staying with sponge bob square head Faux Philip(KB)cause he was injured overseas in war & he was "the father of her baby" like it was the 1950s or something. Not out of some true love kinda ish. That's what she told Shawn as to why she couldn't be with him despite cheating with him behind Phil's back. I didn't care but a spade is a spade cause that logic went straight out the window once Shawn moved on with Mimi & stopped letting her string him along. The minute he found someone else & she couldn't string him along while playing house with Phil? It's the minute the facade of her's dropped. Belle just wants to have her cake and eat it too. A self righteous thot who looks down her nose at others Sami, Xander while she lays up with the monster who not only tortured her beloved daddy but her sister & rest of her family. Like her using her daddy "dying" back in 07 as the reason she was having an affair with JKJ Phil & slept with him in her martial bed she shared with her husband. I think it was either before John's funeral or after. Belle's loyalty is too a dick especially one that's not her husbands

Nothing more nothing less you're trying to oversimplify something that doesn't need to be oversimplified. I'm mad big daddy John is going out with his 2 biological kids being dumber then a box of rocks bird brains, who don't even share one brain cell btw the 2 of them. John's legacy deserves better you hear me! 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣 At least he still has Pumpkin Carrie & Paul 🕊
    • They need to put this new Michael on frontburner every day for as long as they can.  They also need to bring in a new love interest (or many) for him.  Give this actor as much material as possible, please! I hope this Drew-Michael nephew-uncle rivalry goes on for the long haul.  I was worried they were leading up to a Drew murder mystery, but that would prematurely end some great long-term soapy storytelling.  The Quartermaines don't need any more dead family members, either.
