GH: New Character on Contract?

Actually I truly feel this story would have happened no matter who was playing Trina. Maybe Sydney knew where Trina was heading & knew  she couldnt commit to Trina and Give College 100%. So she chose college and GH recast with Tabyana

the fight in the interrogation room where Spencer didn't believe Trina seemed very hilarious and out of place given the circumstances Trina has literally been one of the few people that were not going in on Esme (except for recently) to the detriment of her relationship with Joss and Trina has NEVER done something like this or schemed at all and is CONSTANTLY getting on Spencer's case for breaking the law, so yeah... just based on Spencer's own experience with Trina, Spencer's take is VERY shoehorned to put them at odds/create drama.

and the turn this story took to pull in the older cast members and especially Esme/Nicolas doesn't seem plotted out. It's like they JUST thought of the turn this story would take.

yeah, they def would not be doing this story in this same way if the OG actress was still there. lol

Actually it made sense for Spencer

He thought Esme may be pregnant and was probably thinking that he was gonna be tied to her and didnt want her to be guilty of the video. I doubt he believes Trina did but was just mixed up

Yes his reasoning to Trina was Dumb but those scenes would have happened with Sydney in the role too

And Nikolas has been a dumb ass since he returned in 2019

I’m willing to give the actress more time to develop, I thought she was very strong playing angry at Spencer opposite NC (who played that scene with Spencer’s f-boi qualities hyped to the max). I did see some sparks of chemistry there too and I hope they let that develop. I would like to see more of Trina’s spunk, but the actress plays her as very sweet. It took a while for NC to find his footing too. Between Brooke and Maura, Tabyana has some great actresses to take her under their wings.

I can’t tell though if the show will just abandon Sprina now.

Ali clearly has chemistry with Chavez, so I think if they do that then it's what they wanted to do all along.

FV tends to keep notably non-white POC off to the side on his shows as supporting players. It's not as though they hadn't already kept Spencer and Trina's storyline on the looooong slow burn for almost a year until the recast despite a vociferous fanbase - none of this started with Ali and the recast. Trina has been marginalized for a long time. To me it reads that the show realized what they had in NC and fan response to him, and questioned whether they wanted to 'stick him' with a Black female. This happens all the time in the racist daytime soaps.

I think it's too soon to know, though. This may be just another romantic obstacle for the pairing that they are taking very slowly and cautiously, in part, again, due to institutional racism in the industry re: interracial stories, and due to fear of bigoted fans. Or it may be the beginning of a pivot. There's no way to tell yet. But if it happens it can't be blamed on the recast, who is IMO at the very least technically superior to Mikayla already.

    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
    • French fan summary Rusty took over Simon's job at Lewis Trucking after Simon transferred to Lewis Oil's North Carolina office to live near Jessie and Calla. I doubt they would bother following up a story for offscreen characters eg marriage and a baby.
    • I suspected that the performance with the reveal was the reason why the Ted actor got the axe and it looks like I was right. He wasn't really good at conveying what needed to be conveyed in those scenes. Claybon is at least slowly improving (but I agree that he still needs to work on his line delivery), but I do wonder what will happen when his big reveal is coming up.
    • I've already asked this before, recently, but can anyone who watched those years more closely tell me if anything said about Jessie and Simon at the end of their profiles is accurate (about them marrying, naming a baby after Brandon/Lujack, etc.)?
    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
