Here's what I want to know: have SSH and SR ever criticized RC's writing, either to the media, or BTS?  Because, if they have, that might have something to do with his treatment of them in his work.

Yeah, I honestly don't think it's a personal attack.  Just more of the way Ron views the characters.  To be fair, though, Julie/Maggie have not been considered viable for a long, long time (except for that weird period when DH was fired and Maggie was the thing).  They have been by and large supporting for years.   Marlena and Kate have always gotten much more favorable, modern writing.   I never really understood the Kate love, but it's obvious why Marlena still gets it.

He doesn't know.  Apparently Marlena is keeping Belle sedated until John answers the phone?  Because he has a ton of better things to do?  He and Marlena spend numerous hours without talking?  It's been clear the last few days Marlena hasn't even notified the occupants of the house.  It's one of those plots they should just not mention and pretend things are all happening at the same time, but are going out of their way to explain Marlena is just being really weird.

Yea, i think its different now. Its not the 80's or 90's were there were over 10 soaps and they were still very popular. We are down to 4, all of which are bare bones of their former self's. They are just happy to be on screen and living they happy lives.

What happened in 1984? Did she criticize the writing like  Matt Ashford and John Aniston did to JER back in the 1990s?

The Hayes's refused a poor guarantee deal and complained about being pushed out so they left and maybe? overestimated their worth at the time.  The show was just moving in a different direction and they didn't want to be just Hope's parents.

They did complain about the writing too.  Even had a meeting with Maggie DePriest.  Bill especially didn't like the way Doug was being written in relation to Hope.  The meeting didn't go well and DePriest said she wouldn't write for them again.  They ad-libbed their last lines in the final 1984 episode.  They discuss it in their book.  And, yes, they learned their lessons about speaking about the writing.

The '80's were rough for many of DAYS' old guard.  The Hayeses and Jed Allan left, John Clarke and Suzanne Rogers were virtually reduced to recurring characters, Joe Gallison was okay as long as Gloria Loring was still on the show, even poor Macdonald Carey and Frances Reid had to make do with cutesy storylines about tainted doughnuts and writing poetry under assumed names.  Deidre Hall managed to survive, but it seems like the show de-aged Marlena while evolving her into a more action/adventure-type of heroine.

The show definitely de-aged Marlena, but she was a very easy character to transition into the supercouple/action/adventure role because of her pairings with Roman/RoJohn.  She was probably one of the only characters from the 70's that had the ability to evolve that way-hence her popularity.  She also read a lot younger because Marlena had young children.  Mickey/Maggie had adult kids/adopted kids and Mickey/Maggie aren't going to run off the Stockholm to find missing bonds.   The show had an embarrassment of riches as well with Bo/Hope, Marlena/Roman/RoJohn, Steve/Kayla, Kim/Shane etc., so I am sure they weren't worried about Mickey/Maggie, Doug/Julie, Tom/Alice at the time.  I am not sure if that was right for the future of the show long term, but I do think it was the right direction at the time.  It's not like investing in Marlena was a mistake lol.

    • The first time I cried from a soap, Zane's death. I cried for 3 days.
    • Very happy to see GH hit #1 on Hulu! The show's been on fire and deserves the added eyeballs.
    • I really appreciated all the movement in today's episode.  It resonated with me that it felt like the sort of nervous energy that can surround a family after death. I want to point out the EJ scene.  I was riveted by his multi-layered performance. When he told Belle that he went to her because he loved her, and then saw that she was embarrassed by him, and rejected the part of her that was attracted to him.  It started to make even more sense why he would try to protect Johnny (who I still don't think shot him).  EJ feels like a pariah (although TBH, it wouldn't have hurt to bring Marlena some of that tea that everyone had been promising her all morning).  And he doesn't want to pass that along to his son by exposing him as the shooter.  It is interesting that we see none of those same concern between Kristen and lil'Rachel.
    • -- What a stupid party. Devon and Abby leave while Victor goes upstairs to the GCAC bar and talks with Kyle. Then we see Jack giving Nikki ANOTHER birthday toast as if the party has just begun. Huh??? -- This party perfectly encapsulates sweeps month for this show: lame, deadly, boring af. -- Once again, Cole gets really sick and no one insists on an ambulance or the ER. They really want him dead, don't they? Instead we hear multiple characters say "Gee, I hope Victoria doesn't catch it." Cole will be dead before Dumas. -- Kyle is really offering to make a contract with Victor so he can continue to see Claire? Jesus Wept. -- And then the shoe ends with Victor praising Nikki for softening his heart over the years -- after we've seen him treat Kyle, Michael, and Jack like sh_it for days.
    • Your welcome! Will never understand the point of Budig! I forget she’s there 95% of the time and Thudley does too!
    • I do think Zane could have been a decent long-term addition if they hadn't disposed of him - up to Lucas' arrival, at least.
    • It is 4 feet!!! https://www.hulu.com/hub/tv/collections/9979 Today, GH, I am amazed. #1 Up from #2 on Saturday, which was up from #4 during the week last week.

    • If he was responsible for Egyptian dust, you should have led with that! That one thing cinches it for me.
    • I would consider recasting Nikolas again just for the sake of those around him, but you may be right.
    • Watched Mondays episode, wow! That’s all I have to say. It was heartbreaking to watch. You really don’t know how invested you are in these characters until moments like this. Deidre was absolutely phenomenal in that whole episode, as I am sure she will be in the coming weeks. I was a bit torn about having Bo and Hope being the contrast in this episode, but I understand why they did it. And when Bo woke up and said fancy face to Hope, it broke me even more! Honestly, there are no more words except bravo to everyone involved and RIP to the greatest hero that ever existed in soaps John Black
