Very sorry for his loved ones and so many who worked with him at Y&R. I never had much use for John Abbott as a character, but Jerry was a very warm presence who had a great deal of easy chemistry with those around him, especially the Abbott kids. Many lovely moments with Beth Maitland and Eileen Davidson and Brenda Epperson are in my head as I type this. I still remember the twinkle in his eye as he smiled.

Jerry Douglas was definitely the father and wise sage figure of the show for so many years as John Abbott I had always figured that the Latham regime was too quick to kill off John like they did. John may have come off as too stern/rigid and complicated at times but Douglas always exuded such warmth with the Abbott family it was also hard not to like him.

thanks for sharing @BoldRestless it’s too bad we never got a final John & Dina scene for some sort of true closure

RIP Jerry.

Killing off John Abbott was the worst thing Y&R ever did and it marked the end of an era. Y&R has not been the same ever since then.

RIP Jerry Douglas and thank you for the 24 years you were the heart of the Abbott family.

    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
    • He a dirty dog! Those are his kids and he hurt everyone. At this point he needed to just come clean. I can't believe I was lusting over this man! I hope they aren't quick to forgive.
    • The way I took it is that he did not want to confirm or deny anything until he talked to Nicole first. He was very calculated with the wording he used with Martin and Kat
    • I still see Alfonso Ribeiro as Carlton when Martin gets angry.
    • Not that I want to defend Y&R's writers, but it's not as absurd as you'd think and I believe they plucked it from reality (and then bungled it). The Estee Lauder Companies purchased Tom Ford's brand several years ago and I am willing to bet that's how Jabot came to buy Marchetti.
    • Loved the episode today. looking forward to the fallout. Nubian-Sheila looked fantastic, but I wish the writers would cut back on her overuse of figurative language. I loved the "fix yo mind ministries" line though. The background music during her fantasy confrontation with Nicole was epic.
    • Nothing makes sense on this show. I wish there was a garbage can emoji. That sums up 90% of the show right now.
    • You're welcome

Jane Wyman return episode was head-to-head w/ Cheers season 8 finale. Falcon Crest broadcast syndication began Fall 1986, which overlapped w/ Oprah going national. AFAIK cable broadcasts were Lifetime and Soapnet. I have no memory of cable broadcasts on TBS, TNT, TNN, E!, FX.
