I don't know how unpopular this would really be but co-signing this to the moon and back.
I do think that while Dallas was obviously a ratings juggernaut and therefore better know, "critics" and most people watching both would concur that KL was a leaps and bounds a superior soap content-wise.

I agree that I don't hate the last few seasons of Dallas the way I hate the last season of Melrose.
And one reason is this incredibly unpopular opinion: I actually liked Kimberly Foster as Michelle. And while the characters in his family were mostly a miss, Carter McKay was a pretty decent villain and his first season umbrella story was actually fairly solid.

Actually Knots being the better soap is a popular opinion especially as time has gone on

Knots not being on any home media or streaming services has really hurt its legacy

Unpopular Opinion but i think Laura is not really needed anymore on GH! Her time's up tbh.

ATWT's final 4 to 5 years weren't as bad as people make them out to be. I think there such amazing storylines going on and still had some of his old charme. Don't know why this gets so much hate but a campy ass final years of OLTL gets praised as hell

Biggest unpopular opinion: I didn't minded that cheap camera look of Guiding Light! Of course it wasn't as great as before but it was alright

I know the title says "Canceled Soaps" but I have one for Bold and Beautiful

I don't need to see Jack the child Taylor and Nick had via Brooke's egg to show up on screen again. It was such a stupid storyline to me. Jack Marone should be one of those characters we never speak of again.

I think they are grooming the Laura character to be matriarch of the show in some ways she is already matriarch status

I'll take the last few years of ATWT over late 90s ATWT any day of the week

I agree. I don't think it's an unpopular opinion. Maybe if you're just going by ratings at the time. Knots Landing, I believe, has more enduring fans who feel more passionate about it than Dallas does despite the fact that it's not readily available on a modern format. Although I liked Dallas ok, Knots Landing was much more intelligent, complex and interesting. Dallas got extremely repetitive and boring after the first few seasons.

You'd think Paramount+ would be the natural home for CBS's big three primetime soaps but for whatever reason that hasn't happened. Dallas full series is on IMDb TV, Falcon Crest first four seasons are on Amazon, and Knots Landing is nowhere to be found.

    • Thanks so much @SoapDope78 Wow-the first week of 1 hr shows and Gloria Monty's tenure. It's been reported that she scrapped the first few shows that had already been taped in the hour format, but like so many stories from the good ol' days that might be a myth. Nothing about what we saw there suggests any noticeable changes in direction or production.
    • Sami's Three Stooges stole the show today

I enjoyed their individual scenes with other characters before they all came together at the Pub to commiserate over their relationships with Sami. I thought that was broken down pretty well. I just wish it had gone on a little longer. And I actually found it kinda funny too lol it seemed more mature than what we're used to. That's the kind of humor that should be on a soap. But I'm not really sure about all this talk of Dante Vitali and Sami's engagement though, especially since it doesn't look like Ali Sweeney is coming back anytime soon. What's the point of it all if we're (probably) not going to see it? It also looked like today was the first round of Brady vs. Xander as well lol I enjoyed their fight, and I'm interested in seeing this storyline play out. Even though I'm sure that Sarah will ultimately go back to Xander in the end, I'd like to see what happens along the way, and how they and everyone around them are affected by this. Btw, Theo and Jada? Idk. I still think he had the most chemistry with Arianna. And he was a bit of a dick too. It also seemed a little out of character for Jada to be so OK with him being such a dick  And though Alex and Stephanie were very boring again and need much better conflict than this book stuff, I am interested in the mystery of who's targeting Alex.  And yeah, I know this is a nitpick, but why is the Square still open after the gala? Isn't it supposed to be really late at night?
    • In fairness, Hillary and Bob Woods were thick as thieves again at least by the end of OLTL. But both she and I believe Mark Derwin not so subtly dissed Kale Browne in the oral history, lol.

    • Frat Boy Jr.'s reaction to seeing Luna was just awful acting. It was so bad that I started laughing.

Does anyone have screenshots of it?
    • Geez, I hadn't heard that Doctors story. HBS really did go through it.
    • No offense to the actors involved, but dear God in heaven: I don't know HOW viewers managed to get through that storyline with Maggie, Frank, Cal and baby Jill without running into oncoming traffic.  Then, to make matters worse, they dragged poor Diana into the mess!  I don't care WHO gets that damn baby!  Just wrap it up and move ON already!
    • Poor HBS.  To have to put up with Stephen Burleigh, who stuck his knee between her legs while rehearsing a love scene on THE DOCTORS, then told the director that's what he did with his wife; Kincaid, who had more hair on his chest and upper lip than Koko the Gorilla; Kale Browne, who taped his lines all over the OLTL studio floor, because he couldn't ever be bothered to [!@#$%^&*] memorize them; and Robert S. Woods, who apparently thought it was still 1979 and that he was still smolderingly sexy, so why should Bo Buchanan be stuck being in a happy marriage with Nora?  After all that, no wonder she jumped at the chance to play a lesbian on VENICE, lol.
