It was 1984, and it had to be a New York based soap, so that narrows it down to Ryan's Hope, Loving, All My Children, One life to Live, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, Search for Tomorrow, or Another World (lol).

And add Edge to that list of New York soaps that were on the air in 1984!

Point taken, also @Xanthe it was from an article on East Coast gossip, so it could be narrowed to New York soaps.

Was Capitol produced in Los Angeles?  And does anyone know if there are still video game arcades in Westchester?

@j swift 1984 Los Angeles daytime dramas: Y&R, Capitol, General Hospital, Days, Santa Barbara.

Yes to the first question. As for the second question, I have absolutely no clue.

Yeah - I wonder how her kids felt about her approach to parenting. But I’m the product of people who took parenting very seriously. I didn’t just fit “loosely” into their lives.

EDIT: She and Hickman were divorced in 1982 and the younger son committed suicide a few years later. How sad.

I imagine that the Hickmans were well enough off that they could hire nannies. Very sad about their younger son.

After reading Lincoln’s comments about her younger son Justin being left with a maid “knowing what to do to fend for himself…” Yikes knowing that and then reading her interview sounds like a nasty storm was brewing in progress.

I still read Lynda's column on her website every week, and it is heartwarming to know that her editor hasn't gotten any better in 40 years.

One tends to think Gen Powell's condition was exacerbated by cancer not exasperated (although it may have been exhausting).

As someone who once proofread for a living, that gaffe REALLY hurts!! 😳😳😳😳😳

That is actually not even completely true as some did get to see the soaps as scheduled though that word use is horrible.

Lol I am trying to think who this is from SOD January 1999:

Meow Mix

Folks at a recent Hollywood bash were overheard badmouthing a former East Coast daytime diva. Digs about her age and recent career slump were fast and furious. One person even questioned if the actress was still alive! My, how times have changed. Not too long ago, no one would have taken the chance of being on this Queen of Mean’s bad side.

Kathleen Turner? Judith Light?

That could be one of a million people.  However, my first thought was of the leading ladies of a prior generation who played mean characters such as: Eileen Fulton (although she was still employed at the time), Morgan Fairchild (who seemed to have a stellar reputation), or Donna Mills (who wouldn't be considered East Coast if someone were making clues).  And it makes no sense that people would be talking about Louise Shaffer or Ann Williams at a Hollywood party in 1999.

Is it Beverlee McKinsey? Older ... about to turn 64 in early '99 ... and East Coast-based. On the other hand, wasn't she already retired by then? Those folks are not only catty, they're also years behind!
