Marc Gilpin Dead: Young Actor on ‘Jaws 2’ Was 56 – The Hollywood Reporter

A sad story, with years battling brain cancer, but I'm glad he had so much support from his family. His sister, Peri, is best known for Frasier.

I'll probably remember him best for his small part in the star-packed Surviving, a very overwrought yet profoundly moving TV film about teenage suicide. At an hour and 25 minutes he gives a eulogy for the friend he'd idolized, and possibly, never really known at all.

This looks like a worthwhile movie to watch. Thanks for sharing this @DRW50
May Peri and her family find strength and comfort through their grief, coming from someone who knows what it feels like to lose a brother to cancer this year.

There was so much in his face. He was like the perfect character actor. Or he could be pictured by the definition in the dictionary of curmudgeon. May light perpetual shine upon him & may he have peace everlasting.

The beginning of Friedkin’s Boys in the Band. The Ryan Murphy adaptation with the most recent Broadway cast was an abomination.

LOL. Another legendary bit from Friedkin on his distaste for Pacino:

“I don’t give a flying fûck into a rolling donut what Al Pacino thinks.” 😂

To my now obvious shortcoming, I don't think I've ever got around to watching a Friedkin film, but these anecdotes and film trailers make me see he was one heck of a talented guy and hilarious. "Well that's a good thing, cause he's not very eloquent." This man's candor is infectious.

This isn't even the tip of the iceberg with Friedkin! (And I actually think Al is pretty good in Cruising, but they did not get along.)

Friedkin made a strong comeback even in his late years with Bug and Killer Joe, a film I am still scared to see but hear great things about. I'll have to do it now. Also revisiting the two cuts of his barely-released serial killer/death penalty critique, Rampage. And yes, his Boys in the Band is so good.

Ellen Burstyn put out a nice statement today - those two had quite a history, both on and off-set of The Exorcist (where he permanently injured her back during a stunt in one of the movie's most famous/infamous scenes).

I didn't know Friedkin had actually gotten around to filming his new version of The Caine Mutiny. I look forward to it. Thread from GDT:
