Her second run on B&B started out promisingly. There were some great scenes of her lurking outside the Forrester mansion remembering what they had all done to her, a nasty murder-by-bees, the scene where she shoots Taylor was awesome.

It later led to a goofy and forgettable arc involving a tropical country and a character played by Robin Mattson called Sugar.

I never fully bought Sheila's motivations behind returning to Genoa City in her 2005 return. For years we have seen her on B&B shift her focus on her rivalry with Lauren/Scotty and Scott to focusing on her life with James, Mary/Erica, and of course, Eric. Then all of a sudden she's obsessed with Scotty and making Lauren miserable again????

At least they started it off with the shock and brought back James although the whole story was utterly pointless-Sheila’s portrait, threatening Charlie, all the characters kept going to the same restaurant where she worked etc

I’m not sure why the 2005 story went off the rails, probably because they didn’t want to fully address the whole B&B story aside from Michael calling Eric for information and using the Sugar tomfoolery. Not to mention they completely devolved Sheila———Sheila talking to herself in the mirror? Sheila was crazy but not batshit crazy. Sheila lecturing Terrible Tom on how smoking a doobie is morally wrong? GMAFB!

How did that end up? Is Sheila still alive? I remember watching the first few weeks of her return but they were trying so hard to make it work (and it could never work, not with Eric, he'd be an utter moron for take her back into his life) that I got frustrated and bored.

It was an odd time for Y&R, mainly because the EP and Co-HW at the time had became dictatorial but was also emotionally unmoored due to crises in his own personal life that some pretty reckless story decisions were made. There wasn’t much else going outside of Terrible Tom and Sheila running the show except for the Phick affair, a very critically panned JT & Mac relationship, and Bobby Marsino being killed off and Brittany leaving town.

Haha after Eric & Quinn concocted a trap she fell right into she became a busybody waitressing at a restaurant, eavesdropping on everyone and passing along secrets until she stopped appearing shortly

after Bill was shot due to Brown’s run for political office. As far as we know she’s still there.

For those with Instagram, Victoria Rowell is going live for Winter's Week Thursday and Friday. Thursdays video is posted to her page now. She said she may have special guests joining her tomorrow. It was information, fun and very positive if anybody wants to check it out.

One thing I loved is that she said Jess Walton is one of the greatest actors she's ever seen and she wished Mamie and John got together lol. She spoke of how Bill Bell hired her the same day and said the audience had been requesting black actors. She asked for a family which led to Olivia, Lillie Belle and Walter. Then once he felt the time was right they added Kristoff, Malcolm and the kids. She also talks of how she'd go to the Bell's home where they got to know each other better which led to things like the Devon foster care story and I'm sure all the other unique aspects we got with Dru and the Winters family.

I must say Bill Bell is a genius, we know that, but I really appreciate the care he gave this story. All the soaps have attempted black stories, but the nuance and realism he brought to them while still keeping it soapy was special and I'm sure a large part of why they lasted so long.

    • I very much liked office Cleary and the actress who portrayed her (as you say, Mary Peterson).  A shame her turn didn't evolve into a contract role.   BTW, does anyone know the timeframe/years that Betty Rae served as casting director?  If i understand correctly, she not only led the effort for contract roles, but also for shorter 13- and 26-week roles.  IMO, GL had LOTS of very well-casted, limited roles, too. I'm surprised the actors throughout the soap industry, and especially P&G actors, have not assembled a book or something similar, praising Rae.  Each actor could write a few paragraphs or a page of text describing his or her experience.
    • No. Ruth had an extramarital affair with David while married to Joe.
    • I'm not sure I agree with Bernstein's children on that. Bernstein's life and activism here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Bernstein#Social_activism_and_humanitarian_efforts
    • Thursday & Friday's episodes were excellent. The build-up was most definitely worth the wait (2 months). TMG, I can't give her enough accolades. AM, was also absolutely incredible. I think the fallout is going to have a ripple effect. The little clues that have been dropped,  hopefully, will weave seamlessly to reveal even bigger bombshells for the Dupree's and Martin.
    • Thanks, msn drives me nuts on the one hand but on the other hand their headlines appeal to me. And, I just don't do FoxNews.
    • The link doesn't work.  The actual link is this: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/composer-leonard-bernstein-s-children-request-his-music-be-played-in-the-kennedy-center-in-rebuke-to-trump/ar-AA1E7gw5 That's a reprint of a FoxNews article. MSN reprints stuff from many sources. You can tell the source from the logo above the headline on the msn page. The FoxNews article is describing what Leonard Bernstein's children wrote -- as a "letter to the editor" of the New York Times. Instead of reading it filtered through FoxNews, here is the original: "Our Dad, Leonard Bernstein, Would Want His Music Played at the Kennedy Center" https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/opinion/kennedy-center-leonard-bernstein-protest.html Non-paywall archived copy of the same NYTimes letter, without commentary: https://archive.is/QaLqD
    • Might be a long shot, because I can't find a thing online about it, but I was Googling the actress that played Nell Cleary (Frank's cop friend that went through academy and then became cops together during the entire Brent Lawrence storyline). To my surprise, she passed away in 2011, at the very young age of 45. I can't find her obituary or anything online about her passing, but I'm curious, does anyone know what happened? Her IMDB only shows a few other acting gigs post-Guiding Light, so she didn't make a career out of it, but I thought she was a great actress in her role as Cleary. Her name was Mary Peterson.
    • What was Ruth Martin's association to the Thornton family?  I only remember the daughter that dated Tad, and she had a buxom mother.  But, did Ruth date David Thorton before Joe?

Why didn't Steve respect Monica and Jeff's decision?  I get he's Jeff's father, and that's how it came out, but I don't like the ethics of the story. A stranger gets to make life or death decisions over a wife's demands?   I hope Monica secretly never forgave Steve's chauvinism.
    • Question: Jon-Michael Reed's review of 1977 is up in the retro soap section.  It includes a fleeting reference to comedic scenes between Jeanne Cooper and Julianna McCarthy regarding “Kay's would-be beau, Ralph the Plumber”.  Could someone please fill me in will more details? I forgot that Kay and Liz were friendly before Jill stole Kay's husband.  And the thought of Liz playing a comedic scene blows my mind, because I only recall her being dour both in demeanor and wardrobe.
