They probably thought no one would notice, or no one would be able to stop them. Even now I wonder how much of that money is just being given back to them under the table.

I read that they are now also telling people to send money back that was sent to dead people, after previously saying keep the money.

There's a lot of talk from some that this stimulus and small business loan plan was well run and has only looked bad because of negative media stories. I don't buy that. The whole thing has been a shambles, and even now when most people in need still haven't gotten anything, the GOP is already backing away from any attempt at help. It's just "go back to work, reopen the economy, everyone wants to go back to work." I don't buy it. Their astroturfed protests didn't get anywhere on the level of reaction they would have gotten in most years. Sadly it doesn't matter. The GOP, Trump, and quite a few in the media want the people to suffer and die, so they will.

That, I've yet to hear from anyone. I hear a world of complaints on the unemployment disbursement, the stimulus payments as well as PPP. Having a second round pretty much proves that the first time was ineffective. The Treasury has admitted that much of the payments didn't reach small business owners but are blaming the franchises and companies that took the payments as well as the banks that facilitated the applications. That's the sense that I get.

It tends to be on the Matt Stoller side of Twitter.

I'm afraid to look him up to see who that is.

The reality is, the White House is finding ways to orchestrate a big giveaway to corporations. The PPP is small potatoes to them but even the dullards at the White House recognize a PR nightmare when they see one.

I laughed at this even though I probably shouldn't have. NPR has its head so far up its own ass they can probably find the New York Times.

Ben Shapiro is trending for pushing the talking point that only old people die from COVID so who cares. While this is grotesque enough in its own right, it also continues to be a shameful lie.

Almost everyone....?!

There are actually some who believe that you can treat it with bleach or something similar?!! Is it really possible to be that stupid? (Unless you're Donald Trump of course. I have no illusions about him anymore)

The governor of Maryland said the state had a number of calls from people asking if they could cure COVID with bleach and disinfectant. New York also had calls. Georgia had two cases of men drinking cleaning stuff for this reason. Many people are stupid and scared.

So, I'm assuming this is the plan to "get back to normal" (for red states). Re-open everything and just hide the numbers & outright refuse to disclose the # of CV infections/deaths.

Yikes.  For awhile I was impressed with how NE was handling the virus. There wasn't an actual lock down, but our schools were closed before NYC's and we had very few cases at the time. So while we weren't technically sheltering in place almost nothing was open, including libraries, parks, playgrounds. I couldn't believe it because Ricketts is a complete Trumpian jackass. I cannot stand him, but I had to give him some credit.

Then all of a sudden when we are at our peak outbreak and have the highest transmission rate in the country he decides to open restaurants, salons and retail back up. It started a couple of weeks ago when one of his rich contributors decided he wanted to open his outdoor mall back up. That didn't work out because the national chains did not want to be associated with this mess. Part of me can't believe the stupidity, but then again, it's all about the money for these people. It's clear to me that he is bowing to the pressure from the business community and it is just gross to watch.

It is truly the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic all over again.
