Assailing hate but not guns is just clunky and does absolutely nothing to sell the story. 

 

They shouldn't have run the story as front page news in the first place. It's nothing new or worth reading about. 

 

There was also upset over their op-ed encouraging Nazis to police themselves.

Despite that, the LA Times has been far more responsible than the other 2 papers. Our local papers here in Chicago both have their right and left leaning agendas but generally are reasonable and accurate. Well except that the Tribune endorsed Gary Johnson.

The shaming of them is kind of relentless in at least the last six to twelve months, so much that I think a reckoning may actually be coming this time. Their brand of snobbery and insular arrogance re: the norms of journalism is uniquely unsuited to this moment in history. What makes it worse is, there are still a lot of legitimately good journalists on staff and stories the paper breaks.
