Off topic (not really since it's Days related), but is it super lame that I have my Marlena Barbie doll still?  And squealed with joy when they showed it today?.  John playing with it was the highlight of the episode.  Also, VK is so beautiful.  She is just a stunning, stunning girl.

Agreed.  I was 16 years old and had to pre-order that doll.  I was watching Days with my husband tonight (I use that term loosely because he was just sitting there on his phone) and pulled out the doll and he was like I can't believe that is actually a real thing.  That you still own.

Haha, I look forward to getting to that ep.

Just got to Will asking Kate to borrow some money and Ted walking out of the bathroom. Priceless

I know I might have asked this before so sorry for asking again, but how is Abby Steve's niece? Still getting my head around Days history.

Oh sorry to spoil an episode for you.  Jack and Steve are brothers.   Hence, Abby being Steve's niece.  I am not a huge Johnson/Devereaux expert, but I believe Steve and Adrienne were raised by Jo and Duke Johnson, but Jo gave Jack up to Harper Devereaux to give Jack a better life even though I think they are all fully blood related.  A better historian of Days could probably confirm.  I know more about the Brady/Black/Evans history.

I tune into Days very on and off, but this week looks good.  The wedding looks to be like an pretty worthy event.  Although I am a little unclear why J&M aren't married to begin with and go all out for their 7000 wedding. Idk anything about Steve.  I don't think there has been much of him in spoilers besides today.

Not at all, I usually watch behind as I'm from the UK.

Ah thanks @carolineg and @Vee. The surname is what throws me off track but I remember now. I'm sure I asked before, hopefully I won't forget again

I love how everyone is suspicious about Sami not coming to the wedding because avoiding confrontation doesn't sound like her

Like Vee said, Abby and JJ are Jack & Jennifer's kids... Jack is Steve and Adrienne's brother.  From what I understand, they (the Johnson's) are the prototype for DAYS' "underdog" family... Adrienne is the "type character" for Billie Reed and Nicole Walker.  I love that Abby and JJ are positioned as the next generation of Horton's (even above Shawn, Ciara, Claire, and Will), but they are apart of an oft-ignored significant "Days" family, the Johnson's.  Fun fact: Jackson "Sonny" is named after Abby and JJ's father, Jack.

I knew she'd be "right" for Susan. I thought having her as Susan made the most sense. I have no doubt she can "do"  Kristen too but Susan was where I was hoping/knowing she'd succeed, for whatever reason.

I haven't watched today yet. I watched yesterday and actually made it through the whole show, even if I cringed at Papa Bear Sonny throwing himself at Will again. Sigh. It just plays bad which I don't think is the intention. But they captured the longing at the end. Just tired of Sonny being so desperate when Will clearly has no memory of him.

I liked Adrienne vs. Bonnie but I feel like there's no real energy on soaps anymore. It felt a little off to me. But kudos to Judi for doing such a good job as both of them. IMO, of course. I think we all know Bonnie called

. I LOL'd at Hope throwing the phone at her and Bonnie trying to seduce Steve.

Ciara and Hope are both approaching this so wrong. I can't really root for either of them. I'm not sold on "Cin" right now. To be fair, I missed the set up of their romance. I'm not doubting they have chemistry, but I didn't like how it was handled yesterday. And it's clear Tripp's gonna get thrown under the bus to prop them next. Here's the thing: STOP PROPPING. Just write naturally. When it works, it WILL work.

Odd that John and Marlena popped up what felt like half way through. I liked the Marbie doll. And I liked John was playful and having fun. It's really nice to see Marlena and John have personalities again! But the show still feels low energy. You used to really "feel" the set up and that things were happening but it just all feels so low key.

I'm over Kate but I do like she'd "do anything" for Will. I'm glad I missed Marini's turn as Ted. I was never the biggest fan of his (and I watched both his times on Dancing with the Stars) but how was it?

I don't really regret missing the last two months. I do need to watch Ciara and Ben's set up though. But I still raise my eyebrows when they try and redeem a killer or rapist on a soap.

    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.
