RSW was awful as Petey and most of his Days run. He only got good when he started playing psycho. He is best at playing devious/evil characters.

I disagree about his AMC run. He was a little green, but I thought he was doing a good job before it was cancelled

As for Ben, I blame the writing. Until he went full on crazy!

Certain actors only seem to finally *pop* when they play psycho (Cynthia Watros, Sabryn Genet, Melissa Claire Egan, RSW,  Blake Berris, Darren Criss on ACS: Versace). Sure, actors live to play villains, but for the most part these actors seemed rather unremarkable until their characters lost it.

Uhhh...love ya...but NO.

RSW was decent as Petey. Just look at Petey's scenes with Opal.

We're starting to see this start on the Retro TV reruns of The Doctors. Dr. Ann Larimer was very bland and Stepford-like, and now we are seeing glimpses of anger, bitterness and revenge. It looked like the late Geraldine Court was really relishing the turn in her character's personality.

I forgot RSW was Petey on AMC

I liked Cynthia Watros as Crazy Annie, but throughly enjoyed her as Victoria Love those few days she was on Another World.

Well if he can't shine with JL then he isn't much of an actor?:P

That's what I meant. His scenes with JL were fine but that's about it. Unless you count that bed scene too....

The character of Nell just don’t work.

I think that -- meaning, poorly constructed characters -- plus the lack of strong direction is what makes this question so difficult for me to answer.  How can ANY newbie on soaps impress me at a time when the writing on all the shows is pure [!@#$%^&*], and the directors and producers have absolutely no time to work with ANY actors, much less the younger and less experienced ones, in order to finesse consistent, and consistently good, performances out of them?  To me, it's a miracle if even one of 'em can get through a whole line of dialogue without tripping over the words.

Agreed. I can't believe so many fans want Ben redeemed and stay on as a good guy. Have they forgotten how bland he was the first year, why the writers made him psycho in the first place?

I literally wanted him gone until he went psycho. Good Ben is boring and a waste of space and RSW was bland as [!@#$%^&*] when Ben was good.

He's bland either way. Cookie cutter psychos always outstay their welcome on soaps.

That's for sure...Stefano DiMera, Roger Thorpe, James Stenbeck, etc., lasted as long as they did because they had layers.
