As a Black woman, to me, this stated the very obvious.  Still, I'm glad this is something that is being amplified. Perhaps more people will pay attention but I'm dubious.

I've never been able to figure out why Chris Brown and R. Kelly still even have careers? Although I have my theories on why the likes of these two have ascended in the R&B/Pop world and very little of it has to do with their actual music.

That makes two of us!! I did hear over the radio once that some country (I'm blanking on which one) banned Chris Brown for performing there after what he did to Rihanna. I was thrilled to hear that and to know that at least one country had some principles!!

I'm trying to think who was the first celebrity to come out and share her story of rape. I believe it was Connie Francis, even though her attacker was not someone from the entertainment industry (it was some random loser who broke into her hotel room while she slept in late 1974). She worked tirelessly to help get laws and procedures changed.

Here is a great interview with her from 1981 (in three parts):

Poor Connie. She had so much pain in her life - including a lot after this interview.

A former One Tree Hill writer is accusing the show's creator of harassment. Many cast members (seems to be female cast members) back her up. He now does The Royals.

The focus now seems to be on Hollywood but there are a plethora of stories now coming out of Congress and don't forget the Gamergate scandal that came out of Silicon Valley (which continues to have problems with diversity and sexual harassment).

It's everywhere.

Yes.  As that article that Faulkner posted pointed out there are also plenty of situations that are not high profile enough to be covered. There are plenty of low level managers in all kinds of industries who have been harassing their employees. There just aren't journalists there to cover it.

I just posted an article about the prevalence of sexual harassment in Congress.

One would think that in the halls where laws are passed (or at least they used to be) would be a place where there are safeguards in place to prevent people's personal space and rights being violated but nope!

Hollywood's (and the entertainment industry) main problem is that it is made up of informal networks (meetings do really take place at hotels-lobbies, most times though) where breaches of etiquette happen daily (as an intern fresh out of school, I was once sent to the apartment of a male actor to drop off a script) but I'm still wrapping my head around lack of regard for the rule of law in government.  I mean, it's government that passed sexual harassment laws in the first place, shouldn't they be abiding by it?

Yes, but these are also the people who are high on their own entrenched power. I wasn't surprised how hard it was to file a sexual harassment complaint once I really thought about it. These lawmakers always cover their own asses and make sure they are protected. Enough is enough. It has to end.

^ Yikes. 15 and 19 doesn't sound that bad at first.  Aren't stat rape laws designed to protect the 19 year old in these cases, since they might have met at school? Still, when you actually see the video, that is just plain gross.

    • There are no dumb questions here, we've all known each other long enough to fill in information without shaming each other.  We want you to be happy @carolineg.  Your POV as one of the few women here is vital. So, please, I hope you never feel as if any question, idea, or opinion is ever silly or stupid.
    • I think his full name is Chadwick.  I remember, back when the previous actor was playing him, someone called him Chadwick a couple of times.  It may have been Stefano.
    • I didn't like those two sleeping together, but I suuure liked seeing BF in them. Wiggle and all. Just sad about the waxing of the chest.   Same.
    • It’s strange. I wonder if the writers at that time had worked with him somewhere else and had a relationship? That time is murky AF to find info on. Rachel Ames in effect left the show at one point in the early 80’s and she is credited like she was there until JFP. Tristan Rogers also took various contract breaks that were not short, and websites also credit him one long stint from 1981-1992. So many people come and go in short succession in 1982-part of 1983. I know they lost a lot of viewers when Genie left, but the show somehow survived yearly at number one through like sheer force of will.
    • In that way, at least we were fortunate.  The Daniel Pilon/Ron Raines decisions...not so much.
    • Letting Brennan put it in yet again while smirking over his shoulder... any day now! She's got him just where she wants him! I do think ol' Jack will be dead by February at the absolute latest. They have set him up as a counter-heavy to Sidwell, forcing poor Joss to work his next scheme or threatening to have her sent down for treason. Once he croaks I still deeply fear we will be subject to Valentin and Carly, partners in crime to lovers, possibly out to find out 'who killed Jack'. Anna was at her best keeping Sonny at arm's length and often somewhat cold, which she only really did (for better or worse) off and on during Carlivati's tenure. But Finola gradually got too emotional over Sonny, Jason, etc. and was allowed to do that onscreen too much long ago. Mulcahey brought some of that steel back, though Finola still managed to choke or quietly sob through some of that material as Anna found her way there lol. She's a brilliant actress and she did a good job with that stuff in '24, but now we're back to the same old and it humiliates the character whether she knows it or not.
    • Listen, I am all for Laura Wright wearing silly wigs and glasses if there was a point.  So far she's just been nice to Brennan and made out with him.  How evil lol!!  Even though I have been told Brennan loves her the writing was never there.  It's so low stakes.  Carly should maybe talk to her daughter and have an adult conversation instead. Laura and Anna look foolish.  I really don't have an issue with either being friendly or at least having some affection for Sonny.  I don't get both of them wanting to have a parade to announce how much they love him and how valuable the friendship is.  C'mon, Laura basically tolerated Sonny because of Luke until Lulu/Dante got together.  Anna likes Sonny because Robin did?  There really isn't much more of a reason for Anna to give him the time of day besides that.  They aren't lifelong buddies.
    • It is so dumb and is dragging on already after a couple weeks. By the time Carly wraps this up Joss will be running the local branch office. And yes, Laura deserves better. It's like they tripled down on this Sonny apologia stuff with her and Anna after the Mulcahey saga.
