Backstage drama.

Politics.

Would it be crazy to think that Dina is married to Graham? I am sure the show didn't expect people to like this story so much.

I am also thinking that TPTB might want to pair Victor and Ashley and Jack with Nikki down the line. I am not that crazy about all the Newman/Abbott pairings.

However if "talented scribes" as you say can pen "effective scripts" for characters of other races then diversity in a writing room would be unnecessary.

If nothing else, opening the doors to new writers of different races could potentially lead to the discovery of fresh, exciting, gifted talent.

And encouraging diversity (and the myriad of voices which diversity provides) benefits everyone. Who's to say that a new black writer could not write for all the characters, both black and white, better than some of the awful scribes we've been stuck with throughout the years?

Perceptive folks already understand this concept, and would always applaud the idea of fresh talent from any race being given the chance to shine.

Yes it is very obvious that I want to pick a fight with the SON Board Police because I choose the topics I want to discuss. If you see my previous statement as an excuse to pick a fight, your problems are far more serious than the real-life struggles of Drucilla Barber. Try to realise that this is a board for soap opera discussion not your living room. Trying to act like a bully on a soap opera board makes me think that the writing on Y&R is the least of your problems and trust me, I don't find your constant "anger" fun at all. You think people ignore you because they are afraid of your persona, the truth is that your "drama" is very boring. You know.. "politics"

Just stock up on popcorn, kick back, and enjoy the fireworks which always follow their being confronted by differences of opinions.

It's better than any sitcom. :)

If Y&R pairs Nikki & Jack again hopefully it goes better than last time.

I'm not sure how I feel on that. I'd hope it is. I also wonder if they may move Ashley and Victor towards each other. I think both would be snoozeville at this point but who knows?

Daytime doesn't do "fresh talent" anymore. Especially fresh talent of color.

Try harder.

I hope not. The last time Ashley & Victor were together she had her baby thrown into a fireplace.

I thought they were going for Ashley + Graham or whatever her "real soulmate" was going to be.

On a sidenote: whose idea was it to put CGI-green table cloth on the GCAC patio tables?! It's HIDEOUS and it casts a green light on the actors' faces.

It just goes to show how shortsighted it was to kill off Diane & Brad who would be (fairly) fresh pairings for Victor & Nikki.

Absolutely. Diane and Brad were both well developed characters, portrayed by charismatic performers (with the exception of Maura West, woefully miscast as Diane #3) who had legs insofar as their longevity went.

Honestly I wish they would resuscitate them - no explanation necessary. I would be 100% for it.

The biggest problem as far as pairings is that SSM's regime isn't addressing how much damage most of the veteran characters have suffered over the last decade & a half.

She's done a fairly good job with rehabbing Sharon but a lot of that is because Sharon (the character) is relatively backburnered and Sharon Case is a strong enough actress to sell the writing.

However with the other vets there is no consideration about who they (now that they're no longer archetypes) are currently. It's just been a constant rush to pair them in random pairings to facilitate the plot. There's no reason for Jack and Nikki to be getting back together except to create yet another love triangle (which seems to be SSM's specialty).

Eileen Davidson looked amazing on Friday's episode with that red dress.

I can see why she only does DAYS in short stints, given the wardrobe on that show alone...
