I agree that she self-sabotaged herself. Many people are like that. If only she had just listened to her kids and kept her mouth shut but she just can't do it. She really has some mental illness issues she needs to deal with. She's not well, at all.

 

That was an interesting read.

 

That's sad. But she has a mental illness and she is a paranoid person. If I think about it from her point of view, she was paranoid about losing her show and in her twisted mind, she sees Sara Gilbert as stealing her show, basically. I get it. Sara took control. Washed her hands quickly of Roseanne and now it's called "The Conners" and Sara's the star. I'm not saying Roseanne isn't nuts to keep blaming everyone but herself (she can't because that's admitting she sabotaged herself) but when someone has a mental illness ... they view things differently. If I were Roseanne, I'd think Sara is after my show and job too. But Roseanne, still, almost a year later, remains unable to actually acknowledge how wrong she was, the mistake she made, and how she cost HERSELF her job. As the comedian said in the written piece from the WAPOST, she could have handled an apology so much better, but she didn't want. She went into the new show thinking everyone was against her and that they were "trying to silence her" (when in reality, they were trying to PROTECT her) ... it's really a sad situation.

 

Her kids desperately tried to get her off social media. They knew what she'd do to herself. And she did.

 

Good. She deserves even more. She was the true highlight. I've always liked her and enjoyed her version of Becky but it's been nice seeing her really take off this time and she's getting a lot of kudos. I love it. She deserves it. She reminds me a lot of Laurie Metcalfe. Just someone who takes you by total surprise and ends up being so great you can't help but watch them.

Same here.  I forgive her, but I'll be damned if I'm going to feel sorry for her.

The whole damn world knows and remembers the many, many times Roseanne pushed the boundaries of civility and good taste (among other things).  There's a difference, though, between disrespecting the national anthem and calling a Black woman an ape (and no, she doesn't get a pass just by claiming she didn't know Valerie Jarrett was Black -- which I don't buy anyway, but I digress).  That, along with the Hitler tweet, was indefensible and inexcusable.  Point blank, period.

 

 

Yes, in our society, every individual is entitled to express exactly what is on his or her mind, even if it disgusts everybody else to hear it.  But, freedom of speech doesn't also mean freedom from consequences.  If you compare an African-American to an ape on social media, then you damn well better expect there to be pushback.  People who keep defending Roseanne (and others like her) need to remember that.

Good news

 

I think they were non-committal earlier in the year about her coming back because Katey had a sitcom in development (I think on ABC? I can't keep up anymore!).

 

If we're not getting Married with Grandchildren, then I'm all for her on The Conners.

      I do agree that I wish there was more gay representation in terms of singles. I also had hoped we'd get a Black couple since it was a Black soap and I don't know that we've ever seen that on a US soap.  With that said, it's still early days so I can imagine we'll get that at some point. I am impressed they launched with as much LGBT representation considering how US soaps can be.

      Thank you. I know we're all supposed to see that BTG is progressive when it comes to queer characters, but it's telling that they won't commit to showcasing gay or bi males who are single and looking. That relationship couldn't be any more traditional. Will we ever get a bedroom scene with Smitty and Martin? I have my doubts.

      This can be difficult for a soap to depict. So far she's only shown an interest in women. Will a man come into her life? If she commits to a male, there will be  backlash, but if it's women only, them where is the bi/queer aspect? Personally, I would have liked a single gay male on the show dealing with hook ups/relationships etc. Smitty/Martin married with kids is limiting in those terms.

      Of course, how could I have forgotten those thrilling episodes depicting the fire? Also we had the GCAC rooftop set that came out every Summer. Moving on to Friday's episode. Victor is propped in his chair, answers his cell and tells the caller 'Let him in'. Seconds later Kyle enters. So does Victor have security on the front porch? It would have been better had Victor taken the call, and then said to himself 'Well Kyle, let's see what you have to say'and fade out. Next scene Kyle enters, indicating that the first call was from the Ranch entrance and time had passed . Nit picky but I get frustrated when they do stuff like that.

      I don't think Chelsea has a true label just yet. She's just finding out she has an interest in women. I think the awkwardness is aligned with the character as we've seen. This is the fool who keeps filming her family when embarrassing things happen and live streaming it. I actually think it's refreshing she isn't just jumping into a relationship  and that they're playing the beats of her trying to figure out who she is.

      Wow, do I agree with you. Chelsea is coming off as ridiculous. All she does is look for a woman to date while not caring about her business at all. That she's bi is great, but they're not writing her like she's bi. She seems to be lesbian. Yeah, I know -- "no labels." I just don't find the writing for her story to be anything other than awkward.   -- I hope we get some diagnosis finality with Bill's trip to the hospital. I don't want to see these trips to the ER every other day. -- Naomi is going to blame herself for Bill's health problems? GMAB. -- Ashley doesn't read as a real nurse in the slightest. -- Another day, another rinse and repeat conversation with Derek and Ashley. I know Doug is deeply in debt, but I don't like him acting this meek and submissive.  -- I'm not sure what Joey's plan was from the beginning, or why he had to seduce Vanessa at all to get his way. I'm not sure what Vanessa ever saw in Joey -- why doesn't he give her the ick? -- I'm fine with a story where Doug and Vanessa take out Joey.  -- The fades to commercials were pretty bad today.
