Larry Hagman got less big and bad when Angela Lansbury savagely knocked him off the throne at CBS and he wasn't so big and bad anymore when he lost the time slot twice to Urkel.

And my petty ass is still laughing about that, lol.

I was floored when I saw that near the end Dallas lost the time slot twice to Family Matters.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at CBS/Lorimar when that went down.

Family Matters was a Lorimar show, too. I’m sure Lorimar was OK with it - they knew the 80s nightttime serial trend was ending, which is why they got into sitcoms, like Family Matters, Full House, Perfect Strangers, and Valerie.

The first seasons...were probably their best, if only because they adhered the most to their creators' intentions.  They weren't being forced to "glam up" yet, so more attention was paid to developing characters and so forth.

Dallas at its heart and roots was a western, but it got corporate and glamorous in response to Dynasty blowing up.

Two-and-a-half years before playing James, Sasha Mitchell starred in this PSA. We might have to do a separate thread about how campy and/or alarmist the Partnership for a Drug-Free America's oeuvre was.

Urban development I assume? It didn't seem in bad enough shape to tear down otherwise.

Bobby dying could have ushered in a new era at Dallas, but the powers that be got nervous when Dynasty hit #1 and decided in the 1985 to 1986 season to try to be more like Dynasty instead of remembering the very elements that made Dallas so watchable and addictive up till 1985.

Instead of Pam hunting for Emeralds with Marc Singer or JR/Jack Ewing dealing with Angelica Nero.... the show should have focused more on Pam working at Ewing and Pam vs JR becoming a reality.

Jenna's grief worked, but the show should have revealed that she was going through grief earlier then it did while the Sue Ellen arc was quite good as well as the Ray/Donna arc that season.

I agree. The year without him was good to me, but I can see how someone BTS could feel like an element was missing.

Let's not forget that Murder, She Wrote shocked the world when it's season 1 finale became the first Murder, She Wrote episode to finish ahead of Dallas. It was a sign of things to come.
