August 15, 201510 yr Member I wish someone, somewhere would find a document outlining what Reilly's original plans were. I know it had changed by the time we got to the reveal of Marlena, but I just want to know if the rumors are true about Melaswen being a massive rewrite. Let me stop you here: They were [!@#$%^&*], just like 99% of everything the man did after 1995. And back then he had a lot of help. Melaswen was a rewrite, but it didn't matter - the entire story, from beginning to end, was incredibly poorly-written, conceived and executed. The dialogue and characterization were at a kindergarten level, but some viewers didn't care so long as it reminded them of the show they watched at age 10. No sane, rational person can defend the ridiculous, campy, ultraviolent death scenes that were amateurishly staged, executed and scripted for a bevy of beloved characters - a lot of Karo syrup, howling and barely functional dialogue, while the tone of the show constantly shifted between adolescent torture porn and juvenile fart-joke comedy. August 15, 201510 yr Member Guy Wilson and Robert Scott Wilson are also out. Also looks like Shawn Christian and Peter Reckell are out, so PR probably only wanted to come back short-term. Where dId you get this news Deidre Hall posted a pic last week, behind her on the wall was a chart list of the cast. Zooming in it's very blurred but people on DR, with a little help from Jason47 managed to compare all the names to a previous chart from April and rule out who's not there anymore.
August 15, 201510 yr Member I agree the Melaswen [!@#$%^&*]-fest was a rewrite. The Salem Stalker started off so awesomely creepy, culminating in Maggie's horrific murder and attacking Mickey. It became a joke once Doug was chased through the cemetary and Alice was stuffed with donuts and Tom's floating head. I knew by that point things changed and Reilly checked out and said !@#$%^&*] it. Shame. I didn't agree with Maggie, Jack or Abe dying but at the same time, would it ultimately have been that awful if they stayed dead? Look at where we are now. Poor James Reynolds gets a cameo, Jack's died several times after that and was last crushed by an elevator, and Maggie became an annoying shrew who I now want to see bludgeoned again. I want to see a lot of the dead weight offed and I like the idea of a real murder mystery but I'm not fond of it leading into a celebration of Salem and DAYS' 50th. I'd rather it be happier. But I'm hopeful it's well paced and well written and I'm pleased with who's returning. I think for Christmas they really should have gotten a lot of Horton's together. That would have been a nice cap to the 50th but I doubt we see anyone named Melissa, Bill, Laura or Marie show up. Guy Wilson and Robert Scott Wilson are also out. I want it in writing that Shawn Christian is gone. I want to throw a party. The boards will light up with glee and I can't wait. I know the list but I want confirmation dammit. I refuse to get my hopes up. LOL. It's way too good to be true but Daniel has long been a problem that needed to go. I know many liked Christian, and I used to before Daniel, but the writing ruined any chance the character had.

I never claimed it was good. I just want to know if he really got rehired on a storyline that wiped out a significant set of characters and was going to end with Marlena bring guilty and killed off herself. I want to know how far Sony and NBC were willing to go back before things got as dire as they are now with daytime. The BTS stuff with Reilly and Corday are way more interesting than the dreck.
August 15, 201510 yr Member I've almost (ALMOST) forgotten how utterly trashy and cheap Days was back in '03-05. It's trashy and cheap in a different way now.

Damn. I couldn't have said it better myself. Except, I'd change the year to 1997. Otherwise, your SSK assessment was 100% spot on. Yes, koos, it's cheap in a we-have-no-money way now. Before, it was cheap in a rinkydink goofball way. Remember those graphics, light rays, flames of fire, etc. they'd use during their Next-Day Previews at the end? Gawd..... That's because Stephen "Special Effects" Wyman was the worst EP. His production values were so bad. Yes, koos, it's cheap in a we-have-no-money way now. August 16, 201510 yr Administrator Ummm I personally loved those damn freeze frame graphics. LMAO A few of them were okay, like the black-and-white freeze frame. But the majority were ridden with awful special effects.
August 17, 201510 yr Member Freeze frames were never the problem, DAYS used those for over 20 years. The problems were the special effects that, like Toups said, came with Stephen Wyman. I think they were at their worst around 2005, they used those SFX for everything, flashbacks, dreams, episode endings.
August 17, 201510 yr Member HATED HATE HATED those awful special effects. The show was a joke with those. Just awful. Reilly's checked out, campy and EXTRA over the top writing didn't help. I want to know what happened to the Reilly of the '90s in the 00's. I mean Passions started out somewhat interesting and fun and different and slightly gothic and turned into pure trash with penises being cut off and re-attached, women being raped and victimized. Just awful trash. Am I alone in not really being that excited for this murder mystery? I'm hopeful it's interesting, engaging and I do end up liking it but I'm just not fond of doom and gloom heading into an anniversary celebration. JMO. Edited August 17, 201510 yr by KMan101
