Coach: Discussion Thread

I'm not sure a revival will be successful, but one thing in its favor is that the creator of the original will be back as the e.p. and writer. Before I read that part of the article linked in the 1st post, my initial thought was, "Well, Cynthia Cidre is looking for work now that she's killed the Dallas revival. Maybe she'll take on Coach next and have Hayden, Luther and Dauber reunite to fight a Mexican drug cartel."

Shelley seems to be doing well the last time I saw her. She recently did and interview on a cruise ship that has been uploaded to youtube and was involved in the Annette Funicello profile that was done about Annette's health before she passed. Shelley still has the pink hair.

Nanette Fabray also played her mom on Coach. I remember her from the episode where Hayden and Christine tried to get married at her childhood home in Kentucky, where Christine wound up breaking her leg. It took until the end of the season for them to actually have their wedding, but since the real ceremony was just them on the side of the road in the woods with the priest (whose car had stalled), I always wondered if it was legal, since they didn't have any witnesses.

It's a nitpicky thing to wonder about, but it's always kind of bugged me.

Yup, they had three weddings in the 1992-93 season (all during sweeps periods)!! The one in the woods where the steeple fell off the old, dilapidated chapel was the charm. My feeling was that they had private vows taken right then and the next morning the preacher came and they had a ceremony with their friends.

One of my favorite characters was Dauber's steady - the mouthy, brash and funny Coach Judy (Pam Stone). I also loved the recurring bits played by Beth Grant as the deadpan Martha (she usually was a maid, but in the wedding in the woods episode she was an organist). Years ago, I read that the theme song was recorded by an actual college marching band.

They could easily divorce them and have Hayden single and Christine can pop up here and there. I wouldn't expect any of the main cast as regularly, but they should definitely be used here and there. When will these shows learn?

YRBB, the name of the episode is "The Homewreckers" and aired in the show's second season (which is on DVD). Definitely try to watch it if you can - it is hilarious.

Another funny episode - I don't remember the title or which season it aired - was when Hayden and Christine are hired to make a coffee commercial together and Hayden blows every single take. The harried, frazzled director of the commercial is played by none other than Lane Davies (Mason Capwell of SB)!!

I LOVED Dauber and Judy together, and how she always called him by his real name Michael. But I HATE that when PS left the show, they had Judy cheat on Dauber. Blech, no.

Here's a version of the theme song being rerecorded by Iowa State's marching band, after they won a contest to rerecord the theme:

I would love if Christine popped up every once in awhile (although I think SF is retired now so that's unlikely), but I just don't want them to be divorced. The childhood shipper in me simply couldn't take it. sad.png Just have him mention her in scenes/call her offscreen and I'll be fine. smile.png

I love that episode too! And the one where Luther and Hayden accidentally set Christine's wedding dress on fire and then try to paint it white afterwards  .

    • There was the one appearance in '96, but otherwise, that's correct as far as I know.

Question for the B&B group: I see @rsclassicfanforever has uploaded multiple seasons from Videoland  (in the folders that are to be put away). They are huge folders and difficult to download so I started breaking them down into months but I realized they are by season so for example, Season 4 spans from March 1990 to March 1991. Now I'm wondering where to actually place them, since we have the Full Episodes section divided by year, not seasons. And most of these seasons we already have in full, so these are duplicates. Not sure if it's necessary to keep the older versions. I could just make another new section for Seasons, so the main folders would be "Behind the Scenes and Interviews," "Clips," "Full Episodes," "Full Seasons," "Music CDs," and "photo archive Marquise" but I'm not sure that really makes sense. Also wondering since we have almost every full episode now if "Clips" can be deleted in its entirety, as it's nearly 300GB.
    • CBS moving Murder, She Wrote from Sunday to Thursday was straight up sabotage. Les Moonves knew exactly what he was doing.
    • I sure hope you’re right. The lack of sets is maddening!
    • I'm hoping that the new studio might have more space, meaning extra sets could be permanently erected. Perhaps the current  set issues are due to limited space available at Television City as it shuts down for the redevelopment. But if more space means spending more $$$ we might be stuck with the current situation no matter where they move.
    • Thanks @P.J. If my math is correct, Jordan Clarke runs were 1983-1987, 1989-1993, 1997-end.
    • I was/am mainlining both the Dream Season and Season 7 of KL together, since that was the year of their big creative swap. That's the most I can take of Dallas consecutively. But I've been very preoccupied with other shows and work IRL and I need to get back to it after a long break from my Knots binge.
    • Wk 1 95/96 MSW moves to Thurs, Cybill takes the Sunday slot. Thurs 8-9pm NBC Friends #3 20.5/33 The Single Guy #6 19.2/30 CBS Murder She Wrote #55 9.3/15 ABC Charlie Grace #74 7.6/12 FOX Living Single # 78 7.2/12 The Crew #80 7.0/11 Sunday 8-9pm NBC Mad about You # 15 14.6/23 Hope & Gloria #35 11.7/18 ABC Lois & Clark # 38 11.4/18 CBS Cybill #49 9.8/15 Almost Perfect #65 8.1/12 FOX Space Above & Beyond (2nd hr of 2hr episode) #51 9.5/15 60 Minutes was #19 so a lot of viewers didn't stay for Cybill. On Sunday, Sept. 24, CBS finished third on the night, and its performance among 18 -49 year olds was worse than it was with the older skewing Murder, She Wrote in the time period last year.  So moving MSW was a foolish move at that point. It was compatible with 60 Minutes and would probably have finished Top 20-25 for the week. They should have left Sunday alone and concentrated on other nights..
