I do think it's partly denial, but I also think she's bought into Bill's rhetoric over the years about them being the ideal African American couple and being a pillar of the community a little too much and she's probably brainwashed into loving the thought of being with him rather than the person he's shown himself to be over the years. This man has had countless affairs and has admitted to a few of them, yet Camille never wavers in her support and dedication to him. Something is clearly not right there. Now she is old, there are no more marriages and for good or bad that is who she is with and she loves him, so she is justifying and rationalizing.
