I'm another one who grew up on this show. My mom's from Mississippi and she'd always laugh at the portrayal of Sparta as a small town that somehow had all these big city issues. Even when he was shootin' down drunken passes from Martha Byrne---Beauty Queen. Althea's rape was one of the most wrenching tv episodes ever. I completely agree it's a concept that's easily updated with every generation. I was SHOCKED that the initial pilot was practically the movie reshot.
